You mean like maybe Castle kisses Beckett before he stops to think too much about it because he is coming out of a daydream and she is right there.  A "you smell like cherries" moment that actual goes there.  That would be GREAT! Bounce

I've worked myself around to not having any expectations for this episode other than to enjoy the creativity and be entertained.  I'm pretty sure this will be a really entertaining, fun to watch, episode.  If there is more, it's a bonus, but I'm not counting on it at all.  At this point, expectations beyond that just lead to frustration.

This exactly!  I've about decided to go with that for the rest of the season.  Somehow, when the season's over I expect to look back and see significant relationship development, but it's just tiny baby steps now.  Better to just enjoy the ride.Smile

Even if this is probably the most realistic approach it also implies that you're expecting the same slow and steady pace for a long time. As a foresight I don't like that very much. I do hope they will thrown in the odd gem like the Blue Butterfly seems to be.
Besides there will come a point that those two rascals will have to take the next step. That will be a memorable moment.

Yes, it will, but expecting it every week and being fed a crumb of a glance or an expression in it's place wears me out.  I'll just enjoy the show and let it go where it does when it does.  Sooner or later Marlow will get tired of racing turtles and we'll get to see the indy 500.  Until then, it's fun to watch with out having to adjust my expectations continuously.  I'll doubtless keep reading this forum, it's a fun bonus to the show, but I'm not going to expect more than an hour of fun from the episode of the week.

I agree with this approach. But I don't think "racing turtles" is a very good analogy. When I see one of my projects actually being built, I know that while an outside observer may not see construction progress, I know that a lot of the work is not immediately visible. There are underground utilities, foundations, and other work that can take a lot of time. When the framing and walls go up, it looks like "they are finally working". On any project, there are times when it only looks like there is no work, there are times of highly visible progress, and times of waiting (for example waiting for concrete to cure, waiting for outside suppliers, etc).

This is a story about a relationship that is still "under construction". I am an observer, and not privy to the schedule, so all I can do is observe the progress – and enjoy the ride.

Oh, I'm talking primarily about this season.  I expect by the end of it or the beginning of season 5 that things will progress more quickly with some bigger jumps in relationship development.  I just don't want frustration with the pacing to ruin my enjoyment of all the little things that amuse and captivate me.

In a way, I suspect I had an advantage with that because I didn't start watching the show until late-mid/end of season 2.  I went back and caught up with a couple of marathons–when you watch the episodes one right after the other, I think the progression is more evident–you see the flow of the long arcs.

If they get to the end of Season 5, and Rick and Kate are still just giving each other sweet smiles and little quips, I will get very frustrated and possibly look elsewhere for my shipper fixes.  I did that with the "NCIS Tony/Ziva" thing a few seasons ago or the "Mary/Marshall thing" with In Plain Sight.  Totally over both of those ships, but still enjoy the shows.  Somehow, I just don't think I'm in any danger with Castle.  AM has specifically said he wants the DD together.  Not the case on the other two shows.

I understand the analogy to building a house.  You see the outside go up, it gets under roof, all of which is a lot to see and happens fast.  Then folks go in and out and you don't see much.  (I designed the house I'm sitting in as I type this, and ~40 others that were built by my nephew between 2004 and the housing crunch as a hobby to keep my brain from turning into oatmeal).

That said, there was a lot to see if one went inside.  Continuing the analogy, I'd like to be inside this story.  I'm thinking there is a lot to see from the inside.  So far, we are being kept at arms length watching the workmen go in and out, greet each other in the morning, head off at night.  Maybe that's  all that can be done with the murder of the week to solve and all, but it would be fun to be inside more often than the shrink visits.

If this is going to work after they are together, we, the audience, have to be on the inside because from the outside there isn't going to be much going on.  I can't help thinking a little practice at having us on the inside would be good?

Why all the hate about something happening between the characters?

Let me put it this way…

Would you rather Castle not have/express any of his fantasies about Beckett?

You think the (dream/imagination sequence) story would be complete and believable when they're talking about two characters who are in some kind of relationship (or at least in love, we don't know the details) if they DON'T show any intimacy?

I just feel like they are throwing an elephant skeleton at the fans if the AU characters have sex. Maybe it's my sadistic humor, but if he does fanatisize about the AU characters having sex it would be funny if something interrupted his daydream before the climax of the dream. It would especially be funny if it was Beckett that somehow interrupted him.  I also would like it if she got a hold of the journal and started reading it for herself.  I'd like to know what goes on in her imagination.

Absolutely agree….

We already know that Castle fantasizes about Beckett and their relationship thanks to his books….so i don't see why to show something explicit, unless you want to throw a bone trying to soothe the fans.

And i know, for most of you (and in part for me also) some random Castle/Beckett hook up is better than nothing, but this doesn't mean the daydreaming, the coma fantasies and stuff like that aren't lame excuses to show something without to deal with the consequences.

I think we all do know AM well enough to trust him he wouldn't do such a thing. It will be all in proper context of the big arc with possibly some foreshadowing. And with a veteran director you'll get most likely the best version of sub-context and subtly. I'm more worried about the script and how that will be worked out since to me that seems to be the Achilles heel of this show.

I agree, grapes! And with all the character/relationship development we had until now, IMO it`s unfair to compare it with the coma fantasies- episode in another show… Just because Hart Hanson screwed it up, it doesn`t mean, AM will, too. No reason to be negative in advance. Let`s just wait and see. Smile

For me there is a difference between saying – right from the beginning – "This is a fantasy/dream …" and showing a scene where it's not clear cut and at the end there is this "Hehe, gotcha"-moment where it is made clear that it is not real. The first is totally okay in my book, as I said, I love alternate universe episodes and the latter I call screwing with the audience and IMO that's something AWM never did and I don't think he will do.

That's true. Letting us know going in that there's an alternate reality/dream state/imaginary sequence is a far different thing than the reset button dream ending.
