“Re-examining The Limey”
Why won’t this ever go away?
Please, make it go away
The thread is titled: “Re-examining The Limey”
People that didn’t get to participate in the discussion when the show first aired should be allowed to share the pain.
"Han shot first." AM's subtle message that sometimes writers change their minds?

I have spent the weekend re-viewing the “47Seconds” through “Always” episodes. I have been one of those who didn’t like The Limey episode when it originally ran, and also thought it was a hook-up by KB with the Limey.
With the re-watch 2 times now, I don’t hate the episode anymore. I hate Castle’s character for the way he acted toward Kate. I think he was being spiteful. We know KB was, at that point, of a mindset that possibly she had waited too long and he had moved on from his expression of love for her. To me his actions just reinforced her feelings throughout the episode.
Kate and the Limey go to the party at the Consulate. He tells her she is the most beautiful woman in the building. They dance together. They sit on the edge of the desk and make theory about the case together. So there is a mutual feeling of comfort between them by letting the other into their respective personal space.
When the Limey says to Kate, … I have a few hours before my flight, would you like to have a drink with me. From my perspective that is his hook-up line. Kate knows immediately this invitation is just for her alone. She hesitates for a second, looks down. Then looks across the room at Castle. With all her fears that he has moved on, but she isn’t totally sure, and thinking there may still be a chance with him. She says no thanks. Within seconds Castle puts the dagger in her heart by telling her he’s going out with the 1st class flight attendant again. KB responds with, wow, you must really like her this is like the 5th date in a week (not sure of the exact line). And good old Rick twists the dagger even further, by telling her, yea she is fun and right now I need fun.
So Kate makes the call and she is off to have a drink with the Limey. Was it just a drink or more? I don’t know. But at that moment she is feeling that Castle’s actions are saying he’s moved on, .. so why shouldn’t she!
My original feelings where that Kate did Castle wrong at the end of the episode. I don’t feel that way any more. I think Castle did Kate wrong throughout the episode. I think he was acting like a short-sighted, self-centered jerk who was hanging around after “47Seconds” to stick it to her any way he could.
Just my latest thoughts on what has become for me a fun episode.
I have to admit that my first thoughts after seeing Beckett’s reaction to Castle’s going out on another date with Jacinda at the end of the episode was the same as yours. Your highlighted passages reflect why I also initially thought that. However, after viewing this episode and subsequent episodes up through ‘Always’ I rejected the ‘hook-up’ scenario. I expressed my reasoning in a previous post but I think it bears repeating. By this point in their relationship, any form of cheating (ie kissing another man or doing more) would have prevented ‘Always’ from happening. The guilt would have just been too much for them to overcome and certainly it would take more than a few episodes to rebuild their relationship if one or the other cheated. Therefore, I believe Beckett and Hunt shared a drink before his flight, simply as friends. Just, as I believe, Castle was parading Jacinda around (not sleeping with her) as a way to show Beckett that he was fine with her not returning the love he feels for her. In effect, he was trying to show her that he has moved on. I think the results of that simple phone call were not intended to show that Beckett was hooking up with Hunt because nothing was ever mentioned about either Hunt or Jacinda in any more episodes and neither Beckett or Castle displayed any guilty characteristics in subsequent episodes.
I agree Kate did nothing wrong except maybe not confronting Castle on his being a self-centered jerk. And in this episode he definitely acted like someone I did not care for. So much so, that after this episode, I thought that neither one belonged with the other. This feeling was in the back of my mind even when they finally got together in ‘Always’ and I don’t think I ever fully got rid of it when I viewed the rest of the series episodes.
