Offline^Haha, good question.
Another favorite of mine from the show is when Castle was giving his theories on why someone would steal the body.
Beckett: Or, the guys that killed him left some evidence behind.
Castle: …Boring!
And he kept his promise. By the end of the case, she was asking him to stay on board.

OfflineI was in Times Square over the weekend, giant billboards for Cougartown, Flash Forward, seems like ABC is just promoting the new shows. Saw billboards for House, Fringe, etc. so the other channels still promote their older stuff.
Same in Los Angeles, which is billboard central, i.e. a billboard on every corner, not a billboard in sight for Castle. And I've never seen a commerical for Castle, other than during the Castle reruns. No bus stop ads, etc. I think they did some good stuff with the twitter and what have you, but they have to do other media as well.

OfflineRobert updated the numbers and Castle took a huge hit in the 2nd half hour. Here's the breakdown:
ABC’s Castle debuted to 9.4 million viewers, but only a 2.3 rating with adults 18-49. It’s half hour numbers though reveal what I imagine were a couple of minute overage for DWTS. In the first half hour, Castle had a 2.5/6 with adults 18-49 and from 10:30p-11p that fell to a 2.1/6. In viewers it went from 10.28 million average the first half hour to 8.58 million the second.
Another update by Tom.
The Castle numbers do have me worried but thankfully ABC still doesn’t have any procedurals to lean on which boosts Castle’s chances of survivial (Procedurals re-run better and can be plugged easily into scheduling holes meaning every network wants to have a few in their stable). That said, if it loses that much lead-in next week I don’t think it’ll hang on to the post-DWTS spot for too much longer.

That's depressing. Why would it lose viewers. :(

OfflineLoved the episode, thought it was fantastic, but these numbers do make me worry quite a bit. I'm glad ABC doesn't have another procedural to go to, but I don't like that being the only reason Castle will stick around. But it looks like quite a few shows lost some numbers, so hopefully they'll consider that too. PRAYING that we do better next week. Gotta go watch it on Hulu to help with numbers.
Rats, I posted a reply but it seems to have disappeared.
The nubmers are a concern, not so much the over all viewers, over 9mil isn't bad, but the low 18-49 share is definiltely a concern. I hear that that's what the biggest factor is.
It will be interesting to see how things develop. I have to admit I'm rather disappointed that it didn't do better, it seemed like a lot of new fans came out of the reruns and hulu viewing so to see that that hasn't been reflected in the overnight figures is disapointing.
That said, I get the feeling that ABC likes the show and I don't think they'll just dump it unless things get really bad.
Keep spreading the word, enourage people to watch online and if you kniow anyone with a Nelson box tie them to a chair while Castle is on and don't lte them change the channel!

OfflineTranslation: Castle in the first half hour got some help from DWTS running over (1 minute to be exact) the 10 o'clock hour. That not only helped it's total viewers but the all important 18-49 demo. In the second half hour Castle lost 1.7 million viewers and dropped .4 points in the only demo that matters to the networks. Anything (unless we're talking about the CW network) under a 2.0 will get yanked quickly. Networks prefer to have a 2.5 or higher in the 18-49 graphic. Shows that log in between are at the mercy of the networks and how much they back the show or how many chances it's been given to perform or how much it costs to make the show. Castle has been pretty steady with a 2.3 for most the episodes that have aired.
The one good thing is that ABC seems to be behind the show. But even they have to wonder how much longer they can give it the post DWTS timeslot. Another positive is that it can be looked at that Castle retained it's audience. I'm sure ABC would prefer that it gain but at least it didn't lose either.
With ABC not having any procedurals in it's lineup I'm not worried so much about it being cancelled as it being jerked around on different nights and times while ABC looks to plug one of it's new shows in there to see how it performs better. If the numbers hold steady as they are I think Castle could get a full season but beyond that is in question. If they fall any more then I think ABC will axe it mid-season and roll with whatever replacements they have in the can. They could look for a new procedural to plug in next season.

Thanks for that breakdown. Hopefully it will pick up steam. I have a feeling that a lot of people who started to watch on the tail end doesn't know it's back on.

OfflineI don't think it makes any difference which because they're both connected as far as I'm aware. Last season (Before the repeats) you could find Castle on Hulu but at that point it was just redirecting to the ABC viewer. If you have any concerns about which to use, I say watch on both LOL (You can sit through a viewing on behalf of those of us outside the US that aren't allowed to watch)

OfflineI think they need to throw out the entire Nielsen system, or they need to track everyone's DVRs or something! People aren't watching TV the way they used to…some people wait until the end of the season to watch marathons on DVD, or they watch it online or wait to see it when it is convenient for them on their DVRs. One encouraging thing is that I read somewhere that Dancing with the Stars' ratings were lower than in the past, so it isn't "as strong" a lead-in as it once could have been. I kept hoping we'd see Nathan or Stana in the audience, as they sat in the audience a couple of times last season of DWTS, but I figured with Nathan flying back from NYC it would be next to impossible for him to be there.
I did see the occasional promo on ABC; I DVR Good Morning America each day, and last week they had 1 promo each day during that show, and of course, Nathan was on the show this past Friday. They did run the promos 2x during King Kong Sunday night. I remember earlier this year seeing ads in Entertainment Weekly, but nothing like that this season. I am REALLY frustrated with TV Guide, because in their magazine, they didn't even mention Castle in the "What's on tonight" or whatever it is called for Monday nights' shows. I kept thinking they'd have a brief summary of the show with the text "Season Premiere" by it, but nada.
On a side note, did anyone notice that the scene at the precinct was different from the teaser clips online? We didn't see the Cosmo interviewer push Beckett by asking if she had a relationship with Castle, there wasn't that shot of Ryan & Esposito saying Beckett's head was about to explode (or whatever cute comment they had as she was fake smiling her way through the interview), etc. I missed those moments. If we are fortunate to get a Season 2 DVD set one day, I hope they include that stuff in the deleted scenes.

OfflineThat makes me feel a whole lot better. 70% is a really big number. That's got to bump us up a little. As for magazine buzz, Entertainment Weekly did mention Castle on Monday nights with "Season Premiere" next to it, but it was a tiny blurb. It's in the fall tv showcase issue. It mostly featured the new shows, but good things were said about Castle. Will have to find it again–it's laying around the apartment somewhere…
