Castle numbers dropped this week. This is likely due to viewers not bing aware this week was a new episode after last week's repeat of the Season 2 opener Deep in Death.
Also of note, Castle's new lead in "Find My Family" only had a 1.8/4 share in the 18-49 demo and only 4.9 million viewers which means that Castle picked up a massive 2 and a half million viewers from the previous hour, for a show airing at 10pm this seems impressive.

That's a pretty big drop. And it will go down some more in the finals because football was on in a couple markets.
I think people were not aware that it was a new episode too. Most shows are going on a winter break and with the repeat last week many might have assumed it was already done for the month.
Another factor might be TNT's debut of Men of a Certain age. That wouldn't really cause the demo drop but it might with total viewers.

it seems the forgetting was definitely the case. i had several friends who text me throughout the day asking if it was new because they assumed it wasn't because of the rerun last week.

It's too bad this episode was treated as a throwaway episode. Even on the abc main page they did not run the usual ad for it. I found that rather disappointing. It was a good, solid episode with some really nice (not over the top) B&C moments.

Marc Berman put Castle in the "winners" section last night because of the way it bumped up out of its lead in.

Looking at all the facts we still did pretty darn good. So many people forgot to watch (because of last week's repeat), Find My Family obviously sucks (given their reviews/ratings), and I like to call out weather. Some cities were having blizzards and lost power.
As long as we all keep watching and don't "forget" about Castle, we're good.

Shame to see the drop – but yes, it's probably due to the random rerun last week.
I watched the last 10 minutes of "Find My Family" waiting for the promo for Castle and it was like getting my teeth pulled! Well, I've never had teeth pulled, but it was painful. Sobbing and running makeup galore. Hope it gets canned, Castle deserves better!
I genuinely feel bad for those who missed the ep – what an episode to miss! It was excellent! One of my favorites so far, hands down.
Castle = Awesomesauce. The end.

I'm sad that the show had such low ratings. 
I am still not worried for Castle, since we are still on track to make a big ratings score starting in January. 
By the way, I really feel that we are going to have a season 3 of Castle! (I just know it)

I'm with you Mn … confident we're going to get a season 3 – that said, we really do still need to remember to keep spreading the word and giving the ABC feedback – it really does help. Don't forget to watch on Hulu etc too! It makes a difference.

haha! and me too find my family is a bit too teary for me…but i guess its not too bad due to the random airing last week but at least the 18-49 demo wasn't too bad 
let's hope for more viewers in JAnuary!! (but we will totally get them)

Besides the previously mentioned reason (that folks didn't know it was a new episode, and that the lead in show is not so hot), someone mentioned the storm. Well that was a BIG storm and knocked out power to several areas in the mountain states…so there well may have been some ratings effect. I know, for example, that Phoenix was without power. That's a reasonable sized market.
I'm also pretty darned hopeful about season three, but I take nothing for granted. I've already emailed ABC to provide feedback on last night's episode and I intend to watch it again on hulu to help out.

People also were saying at TVbythenumbers, that in some areas Castle wasn't even aired, being replaced by the remembrance shows about December 7th, 1941. This also affected the ratings.
