AHH this episode was amazing! I feel like within these past 2 weeks, as if the show wasn't good already, it has become spectacular. I think Kate really came into her own this week, because so often as a viewer, it's easy to get caught up in Castle and his antics. Stana was spot on this week, really unforgettable. With the way the 2nd half of this season is going, I CAN'T WAIT for what comes next!

This was truely an award-winning performance by Stana!!

Loved Ryan's interest with the insomniac-book guy!! And absolutely loved the ending with Kate admitting that she kinda likes having Castle around – step in the right direction!! Something tells me shes not gonna be too upset next week when some paper reports that the two are an item!!

Overall, this season just gets better and better…….I'm just glad I found time tonight to come on this board!! Missed chatting about Castle stuff (my family and friends are getting sick of me talking about Castle 24/7).

To indosinganadian:
I loved the ending, as well. Kate totally puts herself out there and admits she likes having him around. I loved his reaction — very calmly says "your secret's safe with me". Earlier in their "relationship", he would have reacted much differently.

Is it Monday again, yet?

Amazing!

Just keep getting better!! It's gonna be hard to beat this epi next week.

The whole epi was awsome. Castle was the sweetest guy ever. He calling him Kate is something I'm looking forward to seeing again.

Stana was the star, and she did the job impeccably.

Last epi she learned he went for real, this epi she learned he is gonna be there for her, even if it means give up shadowing her.

Huge steps for casket. I never thought non romantic epis could be this meaningful in a couple's relationship.

Just amazing.

This episode was simply amazing. I'll probably make more comments after I watch the episode again, but here's what I can remember.

First, I love how Castle seemed to instantly pick up on what was going on. When he first confronted Lanie, he didn't know the specifics of course, but after he saw "Dr. Death", he put the pieces together. The look that he shared with Lanie while in the conference room was great.

Castle's response to the whole ordeal was great too. He said something like "I'll do whatever you need me to do, even if that means doing nothing.". He's learned from last time to give Beckett her space and respect her wishes. Also loved how Martha pulled Alexis out of the room during that scene, and how Alexis had a look on her face like "Wait! I wanna stay and see what happens!"

We got to see Beckett's father! I suspected we would see him this episode, but I tried not to get my hopes up too much.

That was incredibly noble of Castle to give up that $1 million (or whatever the amount was). He wasn't doing it so that they could progress in the case, he was doing it for Beckett. Even when you do have that kind of money at your disposal, it really shows how much you care about a person when you're willing to give it up in an instant for them.

That entire scene where Castle was held at gun point had me on edge. I'm sure that Beckett would have responded a little differently if it was anyone else with a gun at their back. Not to say that Beckett wouldn't have let the guy go if it was someone else that was at gun point. But she's finally looking her mother's killer face, and anyone would be reluctant to let him go. The way she tried to get the Captain to stand down was wonderfully delivered too. I think she was pleading so desperately with him because it was Castle that was in danger. Love how Castle managed to get out of his hold, and that was a nice shot by Beckett. She didn't mean to kill him of course, which means she probably shot him there on instinct.

And we have reached another turning point in Castle and Beckett's relationship. Beckett has mentioned before that Castle can be helpful on cases, but this is the first time that she's right out said that she enjoys having him there with her.

That's all I can remember at this point. :)

Wow!  I am so thrilled…this episode was amazing.  I was afraid that whatever happened this episode was going to drive a wedge between Castle and Beckett and that certainly didn't happen!  I hate to echo what everyone else has said, but I also loved when he called her "Kate", when Castle so readily offered 100,000, and the awesome last scene that just seemed to put Castle and Beckett at a new place.  It's such a big deal that she admitted she wants and needs him around!

Next week can't come soon enough!

Someone's probably going to fillet me for saying this, but the story felt rushed and uneven to me. Don't get me wrong, I think my heart cracked in half when Castle called her "Kate"… and the scene at the end was just so many kinds of good… and yes, Stana–great, great stuff… but the package still felt flawed… it felt like they were trying to cram too much in… like they knew all the beats that they needed to hit, (her father, Castle/Becktt moments, etc.), but there was no space for the audience to breathe… like maybe this should've been a two-parter or something, I don't know…

Also, I broke my cardinal rule this week about watching the promo before the show which I think may also have skewed the ep for me a bit… I'll probably end up watching it again tomorrow and maybe it'll sit better… for now I'll just watch that last scene and melt into a puddle of goo all over again.

Oh this episode, my heart is still recovering…..he called her kate, she didn't want to let her mom down, then she breaks down after the shooting and then the line about the pigtails. Gasp, I'm having a fangirl moment…….must watch again, now, and discuss later.

No, wynnara, I actually agree with you, especially about it could/should have been a 2-parter.  Which is exaclty what I was thinking at 10:45, checking the clock. Those last 15 minutes were too rushed…

I did find parts of the episode disjointed, continuity-wise, mainly to do with Kate on the job and Kate off the job.

Ok – she would be different but shouldn't she still actually look like herself? That may be too harsh but from the time she leaves the precinct to sit in the car in the rain to walking into the diner in a camel-hair coat…with no indication of how much, if any, time had passed felt a bit jerky.

When she arrived, in the same frame of mind, at Castle's place, that was fine.

I certainly appreciated Martha in that scene and the cutting-off of Alexis. It felt strong and true. Yay, Martha.

Lastly, the ending(s) for there seemed to be 2.

I feel they threw the wrong emphasis on the take down in the precinct.

I practically stood up and cheered when she shot him! As when Louise shot the jerk in Thelma and Louise.

It was that strong a moment.

She got the guy who killed her mother. She got him.

Full stop.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!

Niether we nor she has any time to savour – slightly grisly, but there it is –  this. I know they wanted his info but that was an electric moment of

fulfillment.

Or should have been.

And finally – I don't know how to feel about the rather weak, asexual acknowledgement of Beckett finding it fun to have Castle around.

Meh.

What – she needs another girlfriend?

I was majorally disppointed that there was not one touch between them.

Another wasted moment. i am glad they didn't fall into a cliched kiss but man, a gentle tentative reaching for one another's hand would have sent this soaring.(Maybe I mean "me", instead of "this". )

Even though it was obviously coming, I did laugh out loud when Castle choked on the pickled egg. It's Nathan – he just plays naturally funny.

But if he becomes too slapstick, too clownish now that Kate finds him "fun", spinja will not be amused!

:)

hugs to all

Actually I was okay with that because just the scene previous, she let Castle touch her and be her physical rock during her breakdown. I think a Kate of a season ago would've pulled away from him. Just allowing him to be there for her was big…

And, re-watching bits and pieces just now, I realized that this is one of the few episodes where Castle had no "aha!" moments that only he could've cracked… yes, he fronted the $100 grand that allowed them to eventually make the breakthrough, but mostly he was just there… cracking the joke when things got too dire… offering encouragement when he could feel her doubts starting to swell… he said he'd do anything for her–any of her boys would've–but when she says at the end she couldn't have done it without him, I'd like to think that's what she meant… and then telling him that… well, that's all I needed for tonight…

hehe, personally I never worry about these two not having enough heat… from what I've seen of this series so far these two just hint at turning it on and it sets the curtains on fire. Love

Not every episode is perfect for everybody and it would be boring indeed if it was. However, personally I loved this episode from beginning to end. I was also relieved that while Beckett got the man who killed her mother, she didn't get the people who hired him. Leaves room for more story in the future. One thing I agreed with Nathan about is that relationships need history. Episodes like this build that kind of history like nothing else. They allow us to see not only that Castle and Beckett's perception and attitude towards each other is evolving but why as well.

"My partner is crazy and may start firing at any moment." – Castle speaking in Chinese about Beckett

Beckett: (about Natalie Rhodes) She took my coffee, Castle!

Beckett: Alakazam, jackass.

Esposito: "Listen to me. You're too late. The cops already know all about…me and your mom."

Beckett: "I put a lot of people in this place. Some of them want to kill me, others never been treated so fairly in their lives – so they form an attachment to me. It’s like I’m their favorite schoolteacher. Some of those people might visit you while you’re in here, like the ghosts that visit Scrooge. And after some time with them, you might find yourself a changed man. So I will be back here, week after week, to ask you who hired you, until that miracle occurs."

WOW, this episode was just fantastic, from top to bottom a fantastic episode, every note was perfect.  Stana really shined in this episode, I think this episode should go on next years Emmy reel.

From the "Now I own a boat" with accompanying jestures to the end with Beckett sharing with Castle that she likes having him around and wants him to be around when she finds who hired her mothers killer.  Just perfect.  I never would have thought with the subject matter of this episode that they also could have advanced Beckett and Castle's relationship so much further without it not being sterotypical.  But the last scene just rang true for their characters.  Loved, loved, loved it.

And is it Monday yet?

Wow, lots to digest tonight. First off let me type that the acting in this ep was fantastic, the interplay between Castle and Beckett was the best I think it has been. I know people want 'more' between them but in this ep the physical was there without being 'there'. Confusing but I felt it, NF and SK are really in a groove playing off eachother.

Favorite scene was a simple one, when Castle said do you know why I picked you to be my inspiration, Beckett said no, and Castle said because you were tall! Then he implied she needed to go be 'tall' and do your job, it was classic and just what needed to be said.

The actor who played the killer was great btw, he was the scariest most believable killer of them all so far, I was really worried he would shoot Castle, he was hard-core. I am also glad the fake Jonny Vong did not die, Beckett would have never forgiven herself.

My beef with this ep is as a few others have stated, it felt rushed, but for me only at the end. The first 45 min were fine, I enjoyed the pacing, but then at the end they crammed in a lot. The scene with Castle at the apt should have been a tad longer, and the end obviously should have been as well. Someone mentioned a few posts up that Beckett never had a split second to realize that she had gotten to kill the man that killed her mother, it only needed to be a second but it needed to be there. The shot could have just been her realization that this was really not the closure she needed, so she panics and realizes she NEEDS to save his life. That part of the scene was def missed, but I understand that they only have about 43 minutes to tell this story. Maybe a two-parter would have worked, but maybe it would have been too much, I am not sure. Andrew Marlowe said bits and pieces, ref Beckett's mother, and this was a huge step forward.

The last scene was perfect however and made me very happy. It was absolutely PERFECT. I don't need them to anything other than look at eachother like they did, it progresses them forward.

Overall this is an A episode all the way. Castle gets better and better every week.

so many AWESOME parts of the episode, i don't think i can stop talking about all of it if i started. haha.
one of my fave parts was castle telling kate 'because ur tall' and kate's reaction, her face was just perfect, full of emotions.

i also loved her talk w/ her dad, she was very 'kate'..not 'beckett', she was very soft, and her whole talk w/ her dad was very touching.

but my absolute fave part was definitely the part were kate tried to save the guy, then cried after realizing he's dead. very very sad , it even had me crying, but that part was SO good, it was very real, the emotions and such. :)

Wow. That's about all I can say. I was worried when it was taking so long to get to what we already knew about the first murder, and I respect those who think it was rushed. I can see that argument in hindsight, but having watched the epi 3 times now I don't feel like it was rushed at all. And I think as wynnara said, Beckett allowing Castle to put his hand on her in comfort right there in the precinct in front of all of her co-workers was a HUGE moment and a turning point in their friendship/relationship. As was her going to his home. So it made the scene at the end very sweet and poignant for me–finally she was putting it into words and he didn't regress to the 12-year-old like when she complimented him on being a good father.

I was ready to cry the whole episode but it didn't happen until the very end when she said she's gotten used to him pulling her pigtails. SUCH a sweet scene and really perfectly done.

I had no doubt that they were all amazing actors but in this episode they were over the top AMAZING. Stana took my breath away so many times, I've always loved the way she delivers her lines but her acting last night was SO powerful. And Nathan matched her line-for-line.

Truly amazing work by everyone connected with the show. Wow.

I definitely need to watch this again tonight since I was on chat during the episode, but I really liked this one. It moved the Castle/Beckett relationship forward and addressed Beckett's mom's murder without it feeling like A Very Special Episode of Castle. I thought it seemed very organic that Beckett was able to admit she couldn't handle it, usually on TV the main characters tend to try to be superhumanly strong.

There was a good balance of drama with some humor in the episode, one thing I love about this show is that it can switch in tone between comedy, romance and drama from episode to episode and even during the episode, and it all still feels like it's Castle (the tv show, not the main character).

The only thing I could nitpick about was that sometimes the music was too intrusive, like during the Irish wake. I feel like the acting on this show is strong enough without having to have the music telegraph what's going on.

Ok – those of you complaining about the last scene need to go and watch Anne of Green Gables – everyone knows that when a boy pulls a girls pigtails it means he likes her!! I think Beckett & Castle are both admitting this in this scene.

It's a big step forward….you just missed it :)

I also respect those that feel the epsisode was rushed…I definitely looked at the clock several times and thought too much time had passed and there seemed like a lot of ground left to cover.  But for the most part, the pace felt ok to me…the only thing that was solved was the identification of her mom's killer, which seems to be a small piece of the bigger puzzle.  I thought the scene in the precinct between the shooting and her giving the killer CPR and breaking down with Castle to comfort her when she realized the killer was dead was just enough.

Everyone interprets things differently, but I did NOT get a "brother/sister" vibe at all from the last scene, which I have crazily watched 6 times.  From Castle's adorable gesture of bringing 4 types of food (because he didn't know what she wanted) to the look between them at the end, it felt perfect to me.  All this time Beckett has been outwardly acting irritated at his presence and playing to him (and everyone else) that she is "put off" by needing to deal with him on the job.  This was the first time that she reciprocated his feelings of enjoying being together on the job.  She knew that the job (and her life) would never be the same again without him there.  The "pigtail" comment for me was an acknowledgement of romantic feelings for him…boys only pull the hair of girls they "like" on the playground…and she admitted she likes this!  And most importantly, she wants/needs him there when she solves the mystery of her mom's murder…an intensely personal situation…and she has finally let him in!  I think the whole scene was supurbly acted, and Castle seemed to have those little smiles, as if he was finally happy to get something in return for all his overtures and flirting.  I thought it really built the intimacy between them.

The episode seemed most about Beckett and her development, which I loved because I don't think her character has been developed enough thus far.  But she was a strong interrogator and professional (incredible with the Irish mobster when she didn't back down), a vulnerable woman, a grieving daughter, and a strong hopeful person who can carry on and let Castle in a little too…so great!

Ok – weird there was another post in here (that prompted me to respond) but it seems to have disappeard, I'm not sure if I might have accidentally deleted it when I was moderating the posts – I've reposted here though in case I did.

Moby Dick Said:
I actually felt the bile fill my throat.I have not been so disappointed in a very long time.I felt sucker punched.I feel like we took several steps backward. The budding romance between Castle and Beckett that has been building over the past two seasons was shot down.Beckett reduced Castle to brother status(famous final scene).I now feel like i'll be watching Donny and Marie play detectives.Obviously I am the only one who was disappointed.I thought this episode would be so much more.I have recorded all the episodes from the first and replay them frequently, this is the first one i've thought about deleting.I know i'll recover and keep watching the series but I've lost some of the zest.
