OfflineAHH this episode was amazing! I feel like within these past 2 weeks, as if the show wasn't good already, it has become spectacular. I think Kate really came into her own this week, because so often as a viewer, it's easy to get caught up in Castle and his antics. Stana was spot on this week, really unforgettable. With the way the 2nd half of this season is going, I CAN'T WAIT for what comes next!

OfflineThis was truely an award-winning performance by Stana!!
Loved Ryan's interest with the insomniac-book guy!! And absolutely loved the ending with Kate admitting that she kinda likes having Castle around – step in the right direction!! Something tells me shes not gonna be too upset next week when some paper reports that the two are an item!!
Overall, this season just gets better and better…….I'm just glad I found time tonight to come on this board!! Missed chatting about Castle stuff (my family and friends are getting sick of me talking about Castle 24/7).

I loved the ending, as well. Kate totally puts herself out there and admits she likes having him around. I loved his reaction — very calmly says "your secret's safe with me". Earlier in their "relationship", he would have reacted much differently.
Is it Monday again, yet?

Amazing!
Just keep getting better!! It's gonna be hard to beat this epi next week.
The whole epi was awsome. Castle was the sweetest guy ever. He calling him Kate is something I'm looking forward to seeing again.
Stana was the star, and she did the job impeccably.
Last epi she learned he went for real, this epi she learned he is gonna be there for her, even if it means give up shadowing her.
Huge steps for casket. I never thought non romantic epis could be this meaningful in a couple's relationship.
Just amazing.

OfflineThis episode was simply amazing. I'll probably make more comments after I watch the episode again, but here's what I can remember.
First, I love how Castle seemed to instantly pick up on what was going on. When he first confronted Lanie, he didn't know the specifics of course, but after he saw "Dr. Death", he put the pieces together. The look that he shared with Lanie while in the conference room was great.
Castle's response to the whole ordeal was great too. He said something like "I'll do whatever you need me to do, even if that means doing nothing.". He's learned from last time to give Beckett her space and respect her wishes. Also loved how Martha pulled Alexis out of the room during that scene, and how Alexis had a look on her face like "Wait! I wanna stay and see what happens!"
We got to see Beckett's father! I suspected we would see him this episode, but I tried not to get my hopes up too much.
That was incredibly noble of Castle to give up that $1 million (or whatever the amount was). He wasn't doing it so that they could progress in the case, he was doing it for Beckett. Even when you do have that kind of money at your disposal, it really shows how much you care about a person when you're willing to give it up in an instant for them.
That entire scene where Castle was held at gun point had me on edge. I'm sure that Beckett would have responded a little differently if it was anyone else with a gun at their back. Not to say that Beckett wouldn't have let the guy go if it was someone else that was at gun point. But she's finally looking her mother's killer face, and anyone would be reluctant to let him go. The way she tried to get the Captain to stand down was wonderfully delivered too. I think she was pleading so desperately with him because it was Castle that was in danger. Love how Castle managed to get out of his hold, and that was a nice shot by Beckett. She didn't mean to kill him of course, which means she probably shot him there on instinct.
And we have reached another turning point in Castle and Beckett's relationship. Beckett has mentioned before that Castle can be helpful on cases, but this is the first time that she's right out said that she enjoys having him there with her.
That's all I can remember at this point.

Wow! I am so thrilled…this episode was amazing. I was afraid that whatever happened this episode was going to drive a wedge between Castle and Beckett and that certainly didn't happen! I hate to echo what everyone else has said, but I also loved when he called her "Kate", when Castle so readily offered 100,000, and the awesome last scene that just seemed to put Castle and Beckett at a new place. It's such a big deal that she admitted she wants and needs him around!
Next week can't come soon enough!

OfflineSomeone's probably going to fillet me for saying this, but the story felt rushed and uneven to me. Don't get me wrong, I think my heart cracked in half when Castle called her "Kate"… and the scene at the end was just so many kinds of good… and yes, Stana–great, great stuff… but the package still felt flawed… it felt like they were trying to cram too much in… like they knew all the beats that they needed to hit, (her father, Castle/Becktt moments, etc.), but there was no space for the audience to breathe… like maybe this should've been a two-parter or something, I don't know…
Also, I broke my cardinal rule this week about watching the promo before the show which I think may also have skewed the ep for me a bit… I'll probably end up watching it again tomorrow and maybe it'll sit better… for now I'll just watch that last scene and melt into a puddle of goo all over again.

OfflineNo, wynnara, I actually agree with you, especially about it could/should have been a 2-parter. Which is exaclty what I was thinking at 10:45, checking the clock. Those last 15 minutes were too rushed…
I did find parts of the episode disjointed, continuity-wise, mainly to do with Kate on the job and Kate off the job.
Ok – she would be different but shouldn't she still actually look like herself? That may be too harsh but from the time she leaves the precinct to sit in the car in the rain to walking into the diner in a camel-hair coat…with no indication of how much, if any, time had passed felt a bit jerky.
When she arrived, in the same frame of mind, at Castle's place, that was fine.
I certainly appreciated Martha in that scene and the cutting-off of Alexis. It felt strong and true. Yay, Martha.
Lastly, the ending(s) for there seemed to be 2.
I feel they threw the wrong emphasis on the take down in the precinct.
I practically stood up and cheered when she shot him! As when Louise shot the jerk in Thelma and Louise.
It was that strong a moment.
She got the guy who killed her mother. She got him.
Full stop.
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!
Niether we nor she has any time to savour – slightly grisly, but there it is – this. I know they wanted his info but that was an electric moment of
fulfillment.
Or should have been.
And finally – I don't know how to feel about the rather weak, asexual acknowledgement of Beckett finding it fun to have Castle around.
Meh.
What – she needs another girlfriend?
I was majorally disppointed that there was not one touch between them.
Another wasted moment. i am glad they didn't fall into a cliched kiss but man, a gentle tentative reaching for one another's hand would have sent this soaring.(Maybe I mean "me", instead of "this". )
Even though it was obviously coming, I did laugh out loud when Castle choked on the pickled egg. It's Nathan – he just plays naturally funny.
But if he becomes too slapstick, too clownish now that Kate finds him "fun", spinja will not be amused!

hugs to all

Actually I was okay with that because just the scene previous, she let Castle touch her and be her physical rock during her breakdown. I think a Kate of a season ago would've pulled away from him. Just allowing him to be there for her was big…
And, re-watching bits and pieces just now, I realized that this is one of the few episodes where Castle had no "aha!" moments that only he could've cracked… yes, he fronted the $100 grand that allowed them to eventually make the breakthrough, but mostly he was just there… cracking the joke when things got too dire… offering encouragement when he could feel her doubts starting to swell… he said he'd do anything for her–any of her boys would've–but when she says at the end she couldn't have done it without him, I'd like to think that's what she meant… and then telling him that… well, that's all I needed for tonight…
hehe, personally I never worry about these two not having enough heat… from what I've seen of this series so far these two just hint at turning it on and it sets the curtains on fire.

OfflineNot every episode is perfect for everybody and it would be boring indeed if it was. However, personally I loved this episode from beginning to end. I was also relieved that while Beckett got the man who killed her mother, she didn't get the people who hired him. Leaves room for more story in the future. One thing I agreed with Nathan about is that relationships need history. Episodes like this build that kind of history like nothing else. They allow us to see not only that Castle and Beckett's perception and attitude towards each other is evolving but why as well.

OfflineWOW, this episode was just fantastic, from top to bottom a fantastic episode, every note was perfect. Stana really shined in this episode, I think this episode should go on next years Emmy reel.
From the "Now I own a boat" with accompanying jestures to the end with Beckett sharing with Castle that she likes having him around and wants him to be around when she finds who hired her mothers killer. Just perfect. I never would have thought with the subject matter of this episode that they also could have advanced Beckett and Castle's relationship so much further without it not being sterotypical. But the last scene just rang true for their characters. Loved, loved, loved it.
And is it Monday yet?
