Once they get the Beckett murder out of the way, I figured they'd bring Castle's unknown father into the fun. There couldn't be that many candidates right? Of course if Martha didn't actually know the man, i.e. one night stands with one or more chance met men? There'd be some detective work involved for sure.

———————–
Oh give Martha a little credit (or not)- i'm betting there are several candidates. If she's this hot a mama a her age, what the heck was she like 40 years ago???? If i recall correctly, Castle does say someplace early in S1 that Martha 'can't remember who my father is'

Cool. Thanks, GhostWriter. I forgot that a lot of unexpected moms don't realize they're pregnant for weeks or months.

I just posted additional comments into a more appropriate thread. "Are you curious about Castle's father?" Perhaps it would be best to keep this thread about ep 13.

Gil Mazzara paid a visit to the precinct. I hope Karpowski shows up again soon as well. :)

OK Castle, but it's accompany and observe, and not participate and annoy, got it?

I caught that "bad boy" glance. I also loved the drug tasting. I had to replay that a few times. It was a great scene!Tongue

1. Beckett showing Castle how to talk to a source after the wake. (progress)

2. Kate's personal/sad moment in the car (with rain) before seeing her dad.

3. No comment (avoiding the question) about liking 'bad boys'.(love this scene so funny

(What ? you're never had thing for bad bod kate, love the reaction of castle. Beckett : no comment !!)

4. Tasting the drugs in the train station, and Castle comment. The best reply of Beckett saying 'you like that' (I'm shaking my head at home and saying yes)- miami vice

5. The entire ending with the food and personal talk is what I have been waiting to happen for weeks and Beckett came thru!

br />

Castle : I can’t shadow you anymore. If it wasn’t for me..

Beckett : If it wasn’t for you, I would have never found my mom’s killer. And someday soon I am going to find the sons of bitches who had Coonan kill her and I’d like you around when I do.

Beckett : And if you tell anyone what I am about to say there’s gonna be another shooting, but I’ve gotten used to you pulling on my pigtails…I have a hard job Castle, and having you around makes it a little more fun.

Castle : Your secret’s safe with me

6. the scene between castle/beckett when he told her why he choose her for nicki heat.<

7. the coffee scene : $ is small price to catch your mother'killer

8. When Beckett go to Castle House after seeing her dad !!! cute moment

I just happened to look at a clip from season one, the pilot, and if you recall at the end of the pilot, Castle was a hostage there and he knocks his arm into the guy holding the gun and disables him and then Beckett arrests the guy, no problem.  I think that you can infer that in Sucker Punch, Castle thought he could do the same thing, hit the guy holding the gun and he'd be disabled.  But Coonan was a more seasoned gun handler and just getting hit didn't stun him or disarm him, so it didn't work this time and Beckett had to shot Coonan.  That could also explain the little implied communication between Beckett and Castle, the head shake from Castle and Beckett's look before Castle head butted the guy.  They both could have remembered the last time he was a hostage and how he'd managed to extricate himself.

And then Castle felt bad because he thought he could handle that situation, but he didn't really factor into the calculation that Coonan was trained military.  Therefore he felt he overstepped causing Beckett to lose the person who could give her answers.  Until I saw that clip today, I had forgotten about that scene in the pilot.

Pamfromcalif writes:I noticed the bad boy glance over to Castle in the first viewing it's fast but effective because Castle is Beckett's bad boy.

Really? I don't think Castle is her bad boy but I do think she's been with some in her past.Castle is not the typical "bad boy".Remember she tells him to "butch up a little" before going into the Irish pub.

Castle just doesn't fit the "bad boy" profile that Molly is referring to.(I knew of his reputation before I started seeing him).If anything,I believe Castle has a rep as a playboy and ladies man but that's not what I think she ment by "bad boy" (hard loving, hard drinking, fighting leather jacket wearing motorcycle riding bad-ass sometimes a little on the outlaw side of life. The "badboys" your mother warns you about. From the wrong side of town sort of thing.)

I think Castle is the good guy every woman hopes she will run into after she is through with the "bad boys".

On the topic of bad boys – i seem to remember a scene late in the episode in Season 1 with the nanny found dead in the dryer – where Kate talks about "guys lying and breaking your heart" to the distraught girl with the knife in the laundry room. Perhaps just a way to make a connection with her to persuade her to give up (hostage negotiation 101) or maybe something more. Castle clearly reacts to KB's statement and the thought then appears in his draft novel.

Maybe Castle is the closest to a bad boy Beckett's come up to, play boy, Castle likes to party hard he doesn't have to ride a motorcycle and wear a leather jacket to do that Just my OHO. I can just see Beckett's old bad boy coming back to town for an episode , from her college days or maybe when she first joined the dept. She kind of had her wild side moment just after her Mom's death just kidding!

One thing very important for Beckett in this episode is she now knows after ten years of agony and what if"s that her Mother's murder wasn't random a fluke thing. She never bought into that and this was what was eating at her. At least now she has some light at the end of the tunnel she knows there is more to this and that she at least got the trigger man hired, now she and Castle can try to go forward and piece together the rest of it and that means TOGETHER. Before Castle came along she was alone with her Mother's case placing it on a back burner in her mind, but on a front burner in her heart. When Castle tried to open it up in season 1 #10 she couldn't handle it. Then again in season 2 #1, we never know if he got to tell her about what he found because the writers slip over this important part of the case until Sucker Punch. So when Lanie comes to the station with Dr. Death and Castle remarks I know him. Beckett begins to get thinking and then with knifes and how the killer used a certain type, click she gets it. She is really a smart Det. and she doesn't miss a beat off of anyone.

Another viewing of the episode – and a new angle to a favorite scene: "because you're tall". Castle's joke to alleviate the mood and help Beckett refocus was so good it took away another significant part of this conversation: Beckett openly telling him about how she thinks about her mother's murder at every crime scene when crossing the yellow tape, and about being afraid to let her mother down. We've all talked about how in the end scene she's finally admitting to Castle she want's him around, but the "tall" scene shows exactly how he makes the hard job more fun. I find the tall scene more revealing in how close they've become. It's a scene like when she first told him about her mother's murder in season 1. She opens up to him, showing her vulnerability, and I think when he in the end says "Your secret's safe with me", he's also referring to this.

I wish I knew how to quit you.

Ok, so I'll echo just about everyone else's responses about this episode. I'm just going off of memory here since it's been a while since I saw it…

I personally LOVED it!!Love
Looking back I should have seen the connection between the heroine and Afghanstan but I didn't so that was a good twist for me. And someone had mentioned that this bad guy (Coonan) was really scary -and he was! Great casting there.

I loved all of the scenes in the Irish pub, one because I liked the music, two Castle trying to go toe to toe with the bartender by eating the pickled egg and then gagging and spitting it out was hilarious and three it showed how tough Beckett is. I would have peed on myself if I had to do her job.Embarassed

I even teared up a little at the end. What a good episode! Just 2 1/2 more days til the next episode!!!Bounce2

Ok, I think that's all I have to say -wish I had time to watch it again and look really deep into the episode like many of you have but since I can't, I'll just read your posts!

Wow,that's spot on unniw. I agree holehartedly with your assessment of that scene. It was one of my favorite btw.
The scene with Lanie and Dr.Clark whats his name was one of the best so far in this series in mho.
When beckett passed her hand over the picture while holding the knife you knew she got it at that moment.
Castle and Beckett are destined,no doubt about it.The dance continues as they become close enough to be physically intimate. It's coming and there is no stopping the train.

Quoting Moby Dick " It's coming and there is no stopping the train." hmm should that be RAIN

That's a given, now all we have to do is figure out how the devious minds of the writer's will accomplish that.Tongue

Hey Moby perhaps you should rename yourself "white Whale" in deference to the glaring omission of the "Dick" in a previous episode Bounce

I agree. Especially considering where they started off this season let alone last season. When Beckett whispers the question to Castle "what if I let her down?" was just further proof that she needs Castle.

"My partner is crazy and may start firing at any moment." – Castle speaking in Chinese about Beckett

Beckett: (about Natalie Rhodes) She took my coffee, Castle!

Beckett: Alakazam, jackass.

Esposito: "Listen to me. You're too late. The cops already know all about…me and your mom."

Beckett: "I put a lot of people in this place. Some of them want to kill me, others never been treated so fairly in their lives – so they form an attachment to me. It’s like I’m their favorite schoolteacher. Some of those people might visit you while you’re in here, like the ghosts that visit Scrooge. And after some time with them, you might find yourself a changed man. So I will be back here, week after week, to ask you who hired you, until that miracle occurs."

Of course! Thanks's Pam, I hadn't really realized this yet, but that's an important side of this episode. The similar injuries of other suspects is one thing, but a hired assasin confessing to it, that's something else completely. And since it's not random, it's maybe not impossible to solve. It must have been very satisfying for Beckett to have that confirmed.

Thanks Moby! I loved that hand over the picture too. Kudos to the director of photography or whoever was responsible for that shot. I think that was the most moving part of the whole episode. Like she was reaching for her mom (and my heart brakes again Cry – must repair it with end scene of ep Love ).

Glad you caught that. It is why im Moby. Would have taken white whale but it was already taken. lol.

Beckett's glaring "NO" when she told Castle that they called him the White Whale and Castle looked at her and said "Not Moby….." while he had her in his arms on the dance floor inspired me to the name.ROFL

Still one of my favorite scenes in one of my favorite episodes

Yep now that i think of it, it is the only scene that i can bring to mind.

Though i must say that the first dip Beckett did was a weird one, what's with that out flung hand ? she reaching for a coffee or that vodka she ordered.Crazy

You have to feel sorry for the ladies who have to hold that awkward position for that time, and then strain the back to get upright again Crazy2

Beckett's mother's murder – probably involves corruption, politics, and people in high places. They'll have a hard time getting to the bottom of all, getting stonewalled at every turn. And who can they trust? My wild guess is that the FBI-guy from this episode can become a great ally, he wasn't originally from NY, and seems to have great integrity. I liked him, he's welcome back.

To Tsurwolf My take when they were dancing was that he wanted to have a closer look at the woman asking questions about Alexis so he did the little swirl thing with Beckett so that she could look at the woman without actually looking like she was looking thus her hand goes out like they are doing a fancy dance routine. It was cute actually then he brings her back in close to him before he takes another look and has her do the dip. Once he sees the jewel thief talking to the woman he forgets he has Beckett in the dip stage. I love that they danced I am hopeful for a policeman's ball so they can dance again and for longer this time around and as a couple dating each other not other people, no undercover stuff just right out in the open dance lust lol!

Episode 213, the anticipation was great. There's been a record number of posts pre-episode for 212, 213 and 214. Having the hiatus of course increased the number of speculating posts, but the pre episode discussion for 213 had over 16000 views! And the post-episode discussion now have 170 posts and counting, and over 5000 views, also record breaking. Has been a large increase in the number of members too, lately. Says something about how big this episode has been. And about this site and the fans – we love this show, and we're not afraid to express it! (Hm, obsessing about numbers again… does it show I'm a math teacher? I love math.)

Those are impressive numbers, I didn't even notice how many views for the topics of late been to much fun talking and discussing the episodes with everyone here to think about what's going on outside my box lol! It makes the time pass by quicker for me when I can discuss the only show I watch prime time (until Lost returns) that I can talk with other people who enjoy it and it's cast as much as I do without bugging non Castle people to death with characters they have no interest in. It is also fun to see how far off the mark we are with what will happen in the next new episode or if we get some of it right.

off topic rant
Math did not like me and i hated it, my worst subject at school.
Funny that i then went on to become shop assistant/mechanic for the OZ branch of the "Singer sewing machine company" where i had to do math frequently when handling money. It's one of my per peeves now that the kids in shops can not add two items and calculate change, without resorting to cash registers.

wonder how did i survive the "Alexis" sub text for this long Bounce

So many fantastic insights to go along with an amazing episode.

One of my favorite scenes was with Beckett and her dad. Nice to see so much of 'Kate' in that scene and that despite their past troubles she still relies on her dad. Thought his dialogue was very powerful and gave us even more insight of what drives her pursuit of the truth…she gets it from her mom. Then when they transitioned to Castle's apartment, I thought it was perfect that only Martha hugged her. It reminded me that, in some ways, she once again has a 'mom' to love her. Sweet how Martha tries to take care of her a little bit with her offers of food and such.

Also, totally agree with Unniw's comment…
It's a scene like when she first told him about her mother's murder in season 1. She opens up to him, showing her vulnerability, and I think when he in the end says "Your secret's safe with me", he's also referring to this.

Castle's happy to be the keeper of Beckett's secrets. It was the perfect opportunity for him to get more info from her about her past and what happened but loved that it was more important for him to help her. That's a true friend.

Someone commented on the great writing on this episode and I totally agree!
That is why I love Castle so much, they have the best writers anywhere.

A little question though….they talked about five murders that took place, two of which being her mother's murder and tonight's victim. Who are the other three?

Thanks.

Bring on next week! :)

Castle: Just waiting for my partner. Maybe you've seen her, pretty girl, thinks she can leap tall buildings in a single bound,

carries the weight of the world on her shoulders, yet still manages to laugh at some of my jokes.

Beckett: She sounds like a handful.

Castle: Tell me about it. Anyway…if you do see her, tell her she owns me….about 100 coffees.
