Another take on this episode from photos posted to sites is that Beckett & Castle are walking in front of the suspect so he looks to have his gun aimed at both of their backs. I wonder if Castle thinks the guy is going to hurt or shoot Beckett so he begins his usual questions to stir the guy up and get him mad at him so he takes him hostage which gives Beckett her chance to shoot him or in Rick's mind the guy takes aim at him instead of her. You know in the moment not thinking about what happens if the guy does shoot him. I could hear Beckett now arguing with Castle as they do back and forth while this guy has his gun on them. Then Beckett is trying to protect Castle and Castle is trying to protect her.
Just another take on what way this episode could go in part.

Yeah she wants to know what he is taking to his grave about her Mama's murder. That's what I think. She is either trying to save him but Castleknows he is dead. She must really wwant that info and Castle bringing it up to her months ago and then she told him to leave it alone and he didn't, then she told him they were done and then he said he was sorry and now new hopes open up and she doesn't want to go there again to much pain and she feels she can't get through it then this guy dies and maybe what he knows with it. I wonder does she or will she blame Castle in some way and this is what causes the rift between them for awhile as others have posted here in speculation. She is giving the guy CPR for sure.

No he didn't die. Remamber she told Castle that he (the guy she shot) would make it.

Then Castle told her to never call him kitten as payment for saving her life.

She had no problems shooting the guy in season 1 episode 6. In the spoiler pix for #13 she really does look upset. I mentioned here in an earlier post that she may have killed her first person and that could be why she is so upset. I tend to think killing anyone and talking human or animal life would be horrible no matter a cop or a soldier. I think there is more to this story then killing the man, he after all held Castle at gun pooint, might have information on her Mother's murder information ten long years coming and he may even hold her hostage the photos tell us little.
I am so looking forward to the rest of this season some really good episodes listed.
