I am definitely on your side Deb. I would like to see them grow closer and if that leads to a romance then that's great. But if I just want to see romance I'll watch a soap opera or late-night cable TV.

Castle is about so much more than Beckett and Castle hooking up, and even if they eventually do start dating I want the show to continue to be about more than their romance. It is definitely NOT "all about the romance" for me.

Oh yeah, I am definitely enjoying the evolution of their characters but as Admin said, not every episode can be about them taking big steps in their relationship (though I do agree with those who said that Beckett's bathing suit comment was HUGE evidence of the change in their relationship) and I absolutely disagree that they took a step back with this week's episode and I definitely don't think Jose blew the relationship aspects of the episode at all. I'm loving every minute of it and sure, I'd like to see them together at some point but the fact that it hasn't happened doesn't lessen my enjoyment of the show. And if they don't ever end up together it's not going to change my opinion of the quality of the episodes and the first-rate talent of the cast and crew, including the writers.

Wish someone would post a poll on what part of the show most appeals to them, the murder/mystery/drama or the budding romance between B&C.Might be interesting.Just saying. Smile' class='wp-smiley' />

I think what appeals most to me about Castle is the well-developed characters.  I think that's what's missing in most of the procedurals…you see the main characters at the office, but get nothing about their personal lives "outside the office."  Castle and Beckett both have well-rounded lives and the writers give us little glimpses of those lives in every episode.  The fact that the two main characters lives have been intertwined (in the past when Beckett was a fan of Castle's books) and currently (as they solve crimes together and get to know each other gradually) just enhance the characterizations of the two.  The slow-building romance is a wonderful addition to the crime genre.  The crimes themselves are interesting and complex, much more so than most procedurals.

So, I guess I like most everything about Castle—but especially the great character development that our writers give us.

Moby Dick, to me it is like Castle and Beckett's relationship, one doesn't work without the other. It's the budding romance/murder/mystery/drama. All of it, including the great comedic scenes. You need Castle and Beckett solving cases because it demonstrates the huge amount of intellectual chemistry between the two. It is every bit as fun to watch as the budding romance. However, the budding romance allows the relationship to grow and evolve emotionally, which is also very necessary. If Castle and Beckett were just solving cases week after week without any development in their relationship, the show would fall flat. If any of it was missing from the show overall, I wouldn't be watching.

"My partner is crazy and may start firing at any moment." – Castle speaking in Chinese about Beckett

Beckett: (about Natalie Rhodes) She took my coffee, Castle!

Beckett: Alakazam, jackass.

Esposito: "Listen to me. You're too late. The cops already know all about…me and your mom."

Beckett: "I put a lot of people in this place. Some of them want to kill me, others never been treated so fairly in their lives – so they form an attachment to me. It’s like I’m their favorite schoolteacher. Some of those people might visit you while you’re in here, like the ghosts that visit Scrooge. And after some time with them, you might find yourself a changed man. So I will be back here, week after week, to ask you who hired you, until that miracle occurs."

mk2108 I agree totally. One of the reasons Castle & Beckett are attracted to each other is that they each are intelligent, very good investigators, and they care about people (I guess that's three reasons). So you can't advance the romantic aspect of their relationship without focusing on the cases once in a while. I want to see them get together as much as a lot of people on these forums, but you can't have hot-n'heavy flirting as the focus of EVERY episode. It'd actually get boring and frustrating after a while, especially the longer you drag it out without a consummation.

And maybe the writers had Beckett do most of the flirting this time to offset the fact that the focus was on the case this time. Her flirting back, both with the swim suit comment and the fallacious comment, were big steps forward.

Just my opinion. In the words of Pat Benatar: "Hit me with your best shot. Fire away!"

And by the way – the decade is only two months old. Let's not crown them the "couple of the decade" just yet. I'll agree they're right up there though.

"Make you a deal," she said. "I'll watch my ass, you watch the crowd."

I totally agree with you mk. It is the complete package of unusual cases, crime drama, comedic moments, sexual tension, sharp dialog, well-developed characters, and interesting back stories that make Castle such a satisfying experience to watch. As a incurable analyser/dissector of what I see, sometimes I need to remind myself that Castle simply is a beautifully crafted,exceptionally-well executed show, put together by an wonderfully talented team.
As we say in math: The sum is more than the parts.
BTW, I thought for a moment that I had stumbled into a beer commercial from years ago arguing "Tastes great" versus "Less filling." Of course it is both! (no offense intended) lol Laugh

And I agree with all of you on this page! Really, that's what is great about this show. People who want the romance to come first still watch, and people who want the other aspects of the show still watch, and the numbers grow.

Hello.. maybe a new thread about what each of us most love Castle for would be in order???

I finally watched this episode.. sorry I haven't read all the posts here – it is alot to catch up on!

I just wanted to say that I felt all the best little bits of this episode I had already seen in sneak peaks!!!

The episode was rather…. Blah! I know not every episode can be a 10 out of 10.. but it was very dull 'let's just catch the murderer'.. a bit too Law & Order for me..

Last episode, there were soooo many C&B moments all in the one episode.. why not hold off on the cute phone exchange from last week (for example) and use it instead in this week's episode to balance out this episode.. the relationship growth matters, the solving of the murders matters – there needs to be balance in the episode, and for me this week – it was out of balance- weighed too heavily towards the ins and outs of solving the crime, joining the dots..

I felt the victim didn't even engage me emotionally.. I didn't care about this man and who murdered him.. maybe if I had- I would have been more involved.. When we were first introduced to the victim, we got a bunch of batting statistics.. which to me means little. We didn't even see a picture of the man alive.. I guess they withheld the man's 'humanity' to keep the suspense of the episode… especially his past love story and his quest to free his daughter.. but.. mhaaahhh….

A bit more life in the episode would have done wonders.. like when Beckett makes the quip about giving new meaning to ' hit and run' – it would have been fab if they had both laughed out loud at it together.. shared a joke.. you know?

Ohhh who am I kidding? I am no expert!! Who am I to give advice on what they could have done better?:)
I guess.. I am entitled to an opinion though huh! Crazy

Just.. more balance next time please.. too dry.. not funny enough.. not emotionally engaging…Maybe my least favourite episode.. – One of my fav episodes is the fifth bullet – because of the sweet guy with no memory and his ex wife reconnecting.. I wanted things to get resolved for them.. you know? in this ep? mheh… Sleepy

Well.. one dud episode does not a disaster make.. I am looking forward to tick tick tick…. Boom!!!

byeee all you Castle fans out there!!

Oh.. and … I should have known it was Ray Wise.. after all- he did Kill Laura Palmer!! Laugh

I liked what you had to say Doz. I don't know that I ever really expressed exactly what it was that I didn't connect with in this episode, but you said it wonderfully!

Yes…I had gotten wrapped up in the C/B awesomeness of the previous 3 episodes, but I know it can't be that way every time. And I have really liked episodes that didn't have all the great C/B moments as long as the storyline drew me in or there was a warmth and spark to the dialogue. This one didn't do those things for me. That said, I found the episode more enjoyable with the commentary…it was neat to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse and discover the hidden nods.

boy… and he was just possessed by the devil in Twin Peaks.. I guess he got promoted.. ;)

Thanks dmcw! glad to hear you felt the same way!!

Jealous though! I can't do the commentary.. not in USA!! :(

You know what struck me as well about this ep.. Castle was so much more subdued.. and even sounding like a cop- uh oh!!! We want his character to grow and all.. but we do not want Castle to sound like all the other cops.. I want Castle to stay quirky- and not sounding like he had cops in his family.. but charlatans and tricksters!!! hehehehee..
Also, I noticed something else- when they were doing the usual ' painting a picture to see if something fits' – hypothesising about how the wife could have done it.. I'll quote it here:
Castle: she knows where he's going to be, alone, at night. she goes there..He trusts her, lets his guard down..she moves in close-
Beckett: she smiles, picks up a bat, thinks of everything that he's done to her.. starts with the family jewels and ends with the family fortune.

- Ok.. IMHO this exchange seemed wrong to me!! ' she smiles?' – is Beckett the fiction writer now? that is what Castle would say… I guess they could be hinting at C&B rubbing off on each other – but.. I don't want them to change their characters so much.. it works when Castle makes the quips about going from the family jewels to the family fortune.. Beckett is always after the evidence.. she balances things – remember she is the one who said let's just make it all up and not worry about the evidence in one episode when she was bringing things back on track? (pointing out to Castle and his run away imagination that they need to follow the evidence..) does that make sense?

This tension between C&B's styles in working is one of the things which makes them such a great team, a great foil for one another and so entertaining.

I don't want Castle to turn into a cop and for Beckett to turn into a fiction writer.. I hope this is a one off vibe and isn't going to continue..

anybody else feel the same way? or have the opposite opinion?

I think it was just a little role reversal for that scene and not something that is going to become the norm. Like you said, I think it was one of those signs that the other has rubbed off on the other. We might see it again from time to time but I don't know what they'd gain by switching things up now.

Doz…admin posted the text to the commentary in a thread if you're interested!

I noticed that about the role reversal, too. It doesn't happen too often and I agree, I hope they keep those distinctions clear. It might have been in the commentary for the episode (or I read it somewhere else) that the writers always try to keep in mind that Beckett and Castle approach things differently and that needs to be made clear in things like interrogations. So, it seems like they are mindful of it. Hopefully it stays that way so that awesome ying/yang is preserved!

For me it was one of the best case/team episodes to date. The story was interesting and emotional, Esposito had a lot of screen time, Alexis was great and I loved all the basseball moments – the scene between Esposito, Ryan and Beckett is one of my favourites. There wasn't a lot of flirting but there were scenes that showed how comfortable Castle and Beckett are with each other. I hope for more in episode 17. And please, please more Esposito & Kate friendship moments!

Castle and Beckett spend all that time together and are such a intellectual match that role reversal occasionally is inevitable. Castle is not going to be a cop and Beckett certainly isn't going to become a writer but it's obvious they both influence the other subconsciously and hence will sound like the other every now and then.

I finally got to see this ep last night and I love Kate's totall fangirl moment, she was just about bursting her britches when Rick was talking to Joe and her comment "I have to ring my Dad" (or similar) in the middle of working shows just how effected by meeting Joe she was.

I totally could have hugged Alexis regarding how she handled Rick's fatherless state and the teaching him to "catch" at the end was lovely. LOL to Nathan with a mouth full of canned cream, blek!

Rick wasn't too happy with Esposito with his "mamma mia" comment and he didn't hesistate to let him know it, "you should stop talking now!" but him talking to Lara in spanish was a nice touch.

It was a really lovely eposide and I think will be a favourite.

Besides all the interaction between Castle and Beckett, the great supporting contributions from the rest of the cast, I've become a big fan of the imaginative story-lines. In this episode, I appreciated the writers bringing in all the baseball stuff. (I used to go to sleep with the radio/earplug, listening to the Detroit Tigers play night games.) In addition, I learned a lot about the complex issues of Cuban immigration. The writers stretch my mind with their innovative plots and varied background stories. Entertainment and education!

Mega Buzz March 30 2010

Does Castle have any plans to explore who Castle's real father is? — Mandy
ADAM: I asked creator Andrew W. Marlowe the same thing, and he said yes, but not for a while. "That's a fun, delicious mystery and not one we're looking to solve anytime soon," Marlowe says. "When we touched upon it this year, one of the things we learned is that Castle is fine having it as a mystery, so he's not seeking it out. But I think if we're on long enough, we'll have the opportunity to explore it." (As if they were listening, ABC just green-lit a third season.)
