New Monday episode "Suicide Squeeze" saw a small drop since the last original episode which is likely due to the repeat episode last week leading viewers to be unaware there was a new episode scheduled this week. Castle brought in 9.48 million viewers with a 2.5/7 rating/share in the 18–49 demographic.

I'm not sure where to get this information, but any idea about half hour numbers? I was just wondering if it started higher and dropped off during the course of the episode…

The total viewers didn't drop much at all but ouch that's a big dip in the key demo. It's just like what happened before the winter break. We had momentum building, then there was a repeat, then the new episode doesn't do so well before the hiatus. Same thing happened here. We were scoring highs, insert repeat, then the new episode doesn't do welll before the hiatus.

I'm sure we'll bounce back after the break.

I think the drop from the previous week was purely due to the fact that there was a repeat last week, it happened the last time there was a new ep – repeat – new ep too.

I'm not worried about it. You can look at the trend right before the winter break and then look at the similiar numbers before this break and see the repeats killed the momentum building up to that point.

ABC is playing the “Castle viewers have more money” card in their morning notes, noting:

* Castle also attracts an advertiser-coveted Upscale audience, with an annual median income of $68,000 for its Adult 18-49 audience (among the highest on broadcast television) and pulling in 22% higher ratings than the norm in homes with $100k annual income (index of 122).

Remember that the last original episode to air before this one was "The Third Man" and that episode aired vs a CSI repeat. Also, don't forget that the Superbowl, which was the most watched show EVER in total viewers was aired on CBS. During the airing there were many CSI Miami promos feartured, so the promos were watched by are way big audience.

I think you can also look to the network and how they promoted this episode, it was heavy on the baseball theme and light on the banter between the leads or any real drama as far as the characters went.

Given the theme of the next original airing, I think we will see a different PR approach from ABC and higher ratings.

Ooooh, we're "upscale." Does that mean we do things "fancy," with our fingers extended, like tea?

Sorry, I know it's silly, just got that image in my head.

Every show has ups and downs, and as Admin said, the repeat episode last week explains the dip. There are plenty more episodes left this season to draw in more viewers when they run new eps in back-to-back weeks.

Here is what ABC had to say about last night via Futon Critic…. They didn't seem unhappy with the nights results at all. Following CBS and the superbowl last night, I think the network recognized that CBS had a great opportunity to promote their shows and they did so. I bet the repeats stay steady over the next couple of weeks and then we will see an big push in the PR for the show, especially with the sunday airing on it's way..

I just wish the Sunday episode was on a different Sunday. It's going to screw up my viewing for that week because I won't watch Part 2 on Monday without watching Part 1 and I don't know when I'll be able to do that. I hope it gets great ratings, I just wish I could watch it with everyone else. *pout*

Here is what Variety said about the night… They as others have noted what a strong night CBS had post the Superbowl (which was watched by over 100 million viewers).

http://www.variety.com/article…..4&cs=1

So it doesn't seem like Castle did all that bad, Variety sights strong numbers and MarcBerman from MediaWeekly gave Castle an honorable mention in todays column about the ratings.

Not bad for an episode that was really only promoted as a baseball murder.

I hope ABC learns from CBS' tactic from the Superbowl. They need to take advantage of the Academy Awards airing on ABC on the 7th of March- especially since the first new episode of Castle after a 3 week hiatus is on the 8th of March. The Academy Awards is one of the most watched shows of the year with a wide demo.

As I always say… PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE!

You're such a smartie mon!

Also, they promoted the crap out of The Third Man. I didn't see as many promos for Suicide Squeeze.
