Don't stress yourselves out too much, I'm pretty sure it ended up on the cutting room floor. I was looking forward to seeing it too, but I guess the editors just couldn't leave it in. Pity. This is one reason I'm going to try to refrain from watching sneak peeks for the upcoming episodes. Spoils the fun too much.

Just watched this episode again and picked up on a few things I missed before:

Castle sucking his teeth when Martha reminds him of how he knocked out his front teeth at hockey practice. Great touch by Nathan if it wasn't in the script originally.

Castle's smile when his phone rings and he sees it’s Beckett

Beckett’s brief look when Lady Irena is telling Castle about her lipstick.

Did the green monster of jealousy make an appearance?

The look on Castle’s face when Beckett says “That’s in the back.

The brief look on Castle’s face as Beckett confronts Lady Irena about Mistress Venom’s client list.

Castle’s reaction when he realizes Alexis is looking over his shoulder at the House of Pain website

Beckett calls Castle “Ricky” in the end. Mean anything?

good point! I've often thought that the best endings to the episodes are when they end with Castle and Beckett together. The Castle family endings are weaker often, in my view. Like the bathroom scene with page 105 – I always stop the review after that, skipping the final violin lesson. So, since the show is indeed "Castle", and not "The Dynamic Duo", I'll just have to learn when to push the stop button for my preferred end scene.

Actually, my feeling is that Ryan and Esposito do most of the work and finding of facts and clues. Both Castle and Beckett mostly stand around and chat… Trouble_Maker

One little thing in this episode that shows why Beckett is ordering the others around: while Ryan, Esposito and Castle were wondering what to do about SAM, Montomery explained that they could get a court order for the client list… while Beckett was already on the phone asking for it…

I wish I knew how to quit you.

I actually like that they have a good balance now of who has the epiphanies that solve the case. Sometimes it's Castle, sometimes Beckett, sometimes they both come to the conclusion at_the_same_time. That's how it should be. As much as I love the first season I found the first few episodes annoying because the cops always seemed to be two steps behind Castle, often making them a bit buffoonish so he can look the hero. They've fixed that this season and it's a better show for it.

I know we all have different reasons why we love The Mistress Of Awesomeness.. aka Stana Katic, but for me it's because she makes Beckett so human. She's not perfect, but she doesn't dwell on her imperfections or make excuses for behaving a certain way. She's comfortable with who she is (like Stana). A person who is that confident exudes charm and you cannot help but fall under their spell.

That's why I love that exchange from When The Bough Breaks when Castle makes an off the cuff remark that she wouldn't know what rejection is, because what man has ever turned her down? She looks confused and hurt at the same time because, in essence here he is turning her down for a job, just as Will did. But, she did not resort to using her feminine wiles to change his mind, instead she does what Beckett does best -just be herself, if that wasn't good enough for Castle, then it was his loss. I loved that.

I love Beckett being super cop but I gotta give Castle his due too, he saw the potential in Beckett and in turn allowed us to get to know her as well.

Individually they are great characters, together they are dynamite.

was wondering why Lady Irena looked so familiar. so i checked imdb, and turns out she's also in the episode in CSI Miami where Stana appeared, she was the one who 'finished' the guy that Stana tried to kill. haha. :D

Forgive me if this was already mentioned but… I was rewatching the Pilot and Castle uses "apples" as a safe word when Beckett grabs his nose (he repeats "apples, apples, apples" ). So a nice throwback there. Beckett also calls him "Ricky" in the Pilot.

Admittedly I don't get to the boards as much so I didn't realize this ep was by a new writer?

A very respectable first effort, but it also explains why I might be alone in saying this episode felt like formulaic old school Castle (hence the Pilot references); crime, obligatory Beckett/Castle sexual tension, Beckett dominance etc. Not that that's a big deal, it makes sense a new writer would want to make sure they hit all the key notes their first time out. It's just from ep to ep I've been really impressed by the level of attention to and steady growth/progress in Castle and Beckett's relationship (with the exception of Suicide Squeeze ). I feel there's been an increasing degree of equality, trust, respect, emotional intimacy and so on between them……So The Mistress Always Spanks Twice left me feeling somewhat status quo and even a bit digressed. Every ep doesn't have to be advancement, it can just be fun which this was, none the less after the string of strong eps in which I thought Castle/Beckett made significant strides..

-A Rose For Everafter ( Castle opening the proverbial door for Beckett)
-Sucker Punch (Beckett letting Castle "in")
-The Third Man (their first "date")

The last two eps have just been ok for me. Which is why I am absolutely salivating for Tick, Tick, Tick and Boom.
