I'm thinking about the book… and the dedication – write what you know. So Scott has planned the murders and written the book about it at the same time, and now makes it happen. He was a Castle fan, getting the book signed. Then, when reading Heat Wave, and Castle telling him "write what you know", I guess Scott thinks Nikki Heat is what Castle knows, and it's based on Beckett, so Nikki Heat is Beckett. Scott also wants to write a bestseller. He wants to write the next Nikki Heat story. And the Nikki Heat story involves a crazy dog owner. Case closed. And a twist. Boom. Write what you know – He's done this before – what he knows is serial killing. So he writes about a serial killer. And he needs a detective on the case. Who better than Nikki Heat. He's fixating on Nikki Heat. And "write what you know" becomes "what you write - happens in real life".

"He's done this before" – was Shaw on the case back then?

I think when Castle and Beckett talk in the van, after that they do something that Scott had not anticipated. And then Scott must start to improvise. By kidnapping Shaw.

When Shaw took Beckett off the case in one of the sneak peeks - Shaw seemed concerned? Distraught? Not really angry? Frustrated because Beckett solved the case, not her? Or as if Scott has a hold on her and Beckett is getting to close to solve the case?

Ah, speculations! Cool

I wish I knew how to quit you.

Or did Shaw take Beckett off the case because her ego couldn't handle it?  Not sure.

Hmm.  Perhaps you should be reading my fan fiction, As Good As On Paper.  grin  It's really well done, if I may say so myself.  Bounce2

I thought of that fanfic as well when I saw that.  Great story BTW.

i'm stuck wondering about the exact same things as well. from the spoilers we know that beckett blew the case wide open (but we don't know how), they have this scott character on the run, and if they now have scott's "dead heat" manuscript in their possession, in theory they would now know his every move since he planned everything out in that manuscript.

but like you said, things may not have gone to plan. beckett was supposed to die in that explosion, but she did not. scott has to change things up on the fly and isn't following the manuscript anymore. shaw takes beckett off the case and goes solo with her FBI crew, and from the spoiler scene of beckett/castle in the van, shaw is apparently making the wrong decisions.

we don't know if that bomb was set off, but we do know shaw is taken captive, and we've seen the scenes of castle with a gun… whatever the outcome, i'm certain i'm not going to be disappointed.

i have to say, abc was able to do better with the spoilers this time around because this episode is a 2 parter… gives us time to think what is going to happen. and the spoilers for part 2 are nothing but serious, only focused on the case…. has absolutely nothing about whatever lovey-dovey sgtuff there might be with beckett moving into castle's loft.

I saw in another thread someone had commented on when the killer called Kate asked her how it felt to know that she had failed.  I think those words may have been intended for Shaw since he knew she'd be listening.

Someone also suggested in another post that the killer looks/sounds suspiciously like Sorensen (Kate's old FBI flame) from Little Girl Lost in the first season. I had to check this out and had the episode up in itunes and then Tick, Tick, Tick in another to compare voices and promos for Boom to compare the faces.  Seems close, but the killer now seems a lot thinner in the face than the FBI agent last season. They eyes are close though. Any thoughts on this?Crazy2

I understand Bailey Chase (Will Sorenson) has been busy with his own show, but it was recently cancelled.  So it's highly questionable whether he'd even be available

Hopefully as cream rises to the top, so do ideas:

  • Ben's door was chained from the inside. A murder, not suicide, makes this a locked room mystery! So many possibilities!
  • The killer on the phone, reporting the parking garage murder, held and laid down the phone left-handed.
  • The man in the window talking to B & C threatens suicide with his left hand.
  • Ben is found by the FBI dead, shot right-handed.
  • Each murder scene, including Ben's, looks to have been staged.
  • No one investigating the crimes has heard Ben's voice, only the killer's when he calls the precinct and asks for Det. Heat.
  • No one has identified Ben as the man who argued at the taxidermy shop, tried to hire the lawyer. (This still might be Ben.)
  • The FBI arrive at Ben's apartment based on Ben's driver's license, not the killer's. (the war room board…Got you SOB.)

I think that Ben is another pawn in the true killer's game, and that the killer has set up Ben to take the fall/divert attention just like mister pinkie.

BTW I'm still spoiler-free, so stuff from the clips could have blown my musings out of the water.

Spoiler-free you still are, but I believe it's pretty certain Ben is the one who argued with the taxidermist, although you could make a case for someone else breaking in.  Whoever visited the attorney gave his name as Ben Carlton.  I think the killer's face they've shown in the promo is clean shaven.  The killer on the phone definitely had a goatee, and I completely agree that Ben was a pawn.

You're probably  right, Lady, that Ben showed up several times in the crime story. But couldn't the other guy have committed all the actual murders, including Ben's?

It's probably true, but keep in mind, the 2nd vic had bruising from the gun on her left side, which they said meant the killer was left handed.  Plus, they got the description of Ben from someone leaving Grand Central.  The glimpses we got of the killer after the 3rd murder looked like Ben and he used his left hand with the phone.  The guy standing in the window held the gun in his left hand.

I think Ben did all that, but the second guy, the rightie, was manipulating like a puppeteer.  I think Ben is the one who cared about those murders, i.e. his warped grief about his dog's death.  The second guy is the one connected to Agent Shaw.  The Nikki Heat thing is a bit weird though.  It's hard to tell what's really going on there.

What you say makes a lot of sense. Isn't it fun to speculate, though? It passes the time…Is it Monday yet???????
