I didn't mean that the murder should be the focus of the show, that's why I think it should be dragged out. They would work on it on the side because obviously 'on the clock' they have other murders to worry about. I don't even know if Beckett would get permission to officially investigate her mom's murder since she's family, so I get the impression that it would be a stricktly off the clock, private sleuthing. They'd have to work on it around other cases, so it only makes sense to me that it would take them a bit longer.

I was re-watching the first few eps a couple of weeks ago and I have to say, man was Stana doing a much better job in the later eps. Yikes, no offense, I like her character and think she does a great job later, but the first few eps were not well acted at all.

I felt the same way at first, but I've since changed my mind.  Beckett is just a hard person to get to know.  Because the character is supposed to be guarded and then gradually open up, I think she seemed inconsistent.

One of my favorite scenes is in the pilot when Castle is telling Beckett why she's a cop.  Watch Stana's face when Castle tells her what he thinks.  She goes from kinda smiling and slowly transitions to the lump in her throat swallow, right before "Don't think you know me."  She's not saying anything, but you know he's getting to her.  I love that scene.

Hmm, I never really thought of the family angle. I can't imagine she'd be allowed to do much on the actual case. At least definitely not on any interviews.

I do hope it's not over in 1 or 2 episodes. But I also hope that if they drag it out over the entire season or more, that they don't bring it up in every episode.

I think one way they could bring it about would be by having them get assigned another case that ends up linking up somehow with her mother's case. Similar murder technique, same criminal, criminal who wants to give information on a cold case for a lighter sentence…

I think Castle should be the one who digs deeper.  After all, he already confessed to Beckett that he was snoopin' around.  If she's pissed, he has nothing to lose.  Plus, it's new to him.  He should bring forth all the stuff Beckett already knows so she can dismiss it for all the reasons she's already established.  Then we'll learn what happened at the same time Castle does.
