in front of all the others!! I thought Beckett cared about her professional reputation?? ( she has made comments in the past about women cops- I would have thought she would play it cool at work- you know keep herself guarded – rather than let Esposito, Ryan and Castle watch her and Demming flirt like mad..) Is it just me or was this quite unexpected?? She and Demming are introduced (formally!) by Esposito and then conduct a conversation with the others pretty much not looking at anyone else – just staring at each other!! Oh dear… I thought Demming was suitably hot.. thought the close ups on his big muscles in the intro was pretty funny..
I don't really want Beckett with Demming.. I want her to be with Castle.. but at the moment, I can see why she wouldn't pick him!
very very true.. I almost feel like I have to go back to the beginning and remember why it is I think they should be together in the first place.. and remind myself of why I think under it all Castle is a good man.. It sounds like a Character analysis of Castle would be in order – is there one on the boards already? a discussion on his character? your post could kick it off unniw!! I am hoping that we the audience along with Castle in the coming episodes, learns alot more about Castle and his introspections! Why this could be the perfect time to start such a thread, when there are going to be Castle discoveries Galore ahead of us!!

Ok totally random…but did anyone else notice that it sounded like Stana had a cold or something? Nathan too actually, but I noticed it mostly with Stana – particularly in the 'fight' scenes and then on scene in the garage when they check out the murder and a couple other times too.
I rewatched the ep yet again just now and it wasn't just my imagination – her voice definiely sounds deeper and that kinda 'husky' sound you sometimes get with a cold or something. (the things we fans pick up!! lol)
Yeah, I noticed it immediately that her voice was changed in the "I've caught a cold" way…
Yes,I noticed it too!now we know Stana is human

OfflineI think we have to realize that when Castle first met Beckett he was in her face all the time. When you have interaction like that you're going to have a more instantaneous, uh.. chemical reaction as a result. Remember when (I think it was Rob B.) said Stana was the only actress who could take Nathan on. She gave as good as she got. That is Beckett.
However, Tom isn't an in your face kind of guy. He's interested, but normal people do not barge into someones life like Castle did, they kind of ease into it to test the waters if you will. Therefore compared to Castle Tom's interaction will also be more low key and their chemistry will take more time to develop.
Tom is not nick-named Capt. America for no good reason. He is as he seems; too good to be true. Which leads me back to the episode Sucker Punch (also written by W.B.) when the informant asked Beckett if she never had a thing for "bad boys" to which Beckett replies coyly;
no comment. So obviously she does have a thing for them and what is Castle if not a bad boy?

Hiya!! here is a bunch of random thoughts on this episode!!-Castle calls Demming captain america.. whoa! a few weeks ago- that was what Castle was called!! Uh oh.. he really has been replaced! When Beckett tells Castle to 'watch and learn' messing with him and walking off -I loved seeing Castle mimic her to Demming: Castle copies her little spin as she turns and walks away!!! rofl!!!!I was very excited to see this: remember when Lainie is fuming up the victim with her little chamber there? and castle is all excited?? he sees a fingerprint and – bing!! Castle gets out his mobile phone and takes a pic of it!!! guys!! he's got the groovy FBI ap that Agent Shaw had!!! and in 2 seconds he had a match – I love that continuity!!! ( Hmm maybe one day we will see those leopard fur trimmed handcuffs after all.. ) Loved the look Castle gave Lainie when she warns him about putting the pictures on the internet – and Castle waves his hand at her as if to say oh purlease !! another physically funny moment from Castle.. even with no lines – Castle steals the show I swear..It is interesting that Demming asks Castle if there is anything going on between him and Beckett.. At first I thought he may have noticed something between them.. but.. then I thought- well when Tom was introduced to Castle, he knew he was 'the writer' - I think he must have known who Beckett was ( asked around after seeing her in the gym!) and.. he must have heard about the famous writer shadowing her- and.. after Lainie's comment about everyone taking bets – I am guessing that Tom also found out that some people think there is something between Beckett and Castle!!I loved how they finished this episode on a serious note – not a jokey note.. it adds to the suspense for next week.. !!I was watching this episode and thinking – well I'll be.. funny guy Fillion can actually do real subtle emotion.. hat off to you! His line of ' I'm not use to loosing' and the look on his face before he says it was tragic!! :( Even when Alexis catches the faraway sad look on his face and asks what's wrong – he can't immediately bring himself out of his sadness to cover it up.. ohhh I hope he says something to at least someone about it next week![Image Can Not Be Found]BTW- I think Castle is doing so badly at cards with Alexis because he is so distracted by thoughts of Beckett!![Image Can Not Be Found]The first time he plays Alexis he is able to put his poker face quickly back in place – loved the super fast face he pulled when Alexis showed her hand.. very funny!!! Interesting to compare with the next time they play later on – and his poker face is not working so quickly.. awhhhh….It was great to see an Ep focusing on one of the regular cast- which wasnt focusing on Castle or Beckett.. I think we have had eps before where we haven't seen too much Castle Beckett.. but usually the other focus is a guest star or the case or Martha or Alexis.. Esposito wasn't acting by the way.. it was all real.. wasn't it???!!!! The line many of you have mentioned before – where he introduces to his old partner his new partner Ryan, and his other partner Castle – to me – this was very touching – and there was Castle with his child like joy all over his face at this honour he had been given.. at the same time – I found it a little bittersweet that Beckett wasn't there!!! She should have been there!! she is the one who is really Castle's partner.. well. we know it- but they don't.. anyway I was wishing she had at least heard it.. It's a little ironic that the theme of the ep was partners.. because Beckett and Castle in this episode were disconnected by an 'intruder'.. and they weren't their usual partners at all.. Their partnership seems to have gone awry! Usually the episode ends with Castle and Beckett together- but not this time!Sorry I can't find who said it but I agree-at the end by the coffee machine, Beckett and Demming have the same body language as Beckett and Will leaning against the car – when Beckett refuses sprinkles?? and asks Will a favour? For me, the moment we heard someone was informing to the bad guy- I immediately guessed it was the IA guy.. cos we knew it wasn't demming.. and who else could it have been – I didn't feel any suspense there.. the suspense came from wondering whether Esposito's old partner was innocent or not.. oh and the ending.. with the applause – umm.. a bit OTT for me.. everyone in the office knew who the guy was when he came off the elevator? eh??(why, I've never seen so many cops in the corridor!!) It was very touching that the old partner got to see the guy put behind bars- I enjoyed that!! then they brought the wife and kid back into it.. for me.. waaay OTT. Going for the heartstrings big time there writers! but.. IMO- it was too much.. for me the guy free to go and seeing the man who had made his life a living hell put behind bars was more than enough…Some people are saying the sparring session did not live up to expectations.. I felt what it did wrong was – it went on too long.. shorter (more punchy – get it??!!) would have been better…I felt chemistry between Demming and Beckett.. yeah maybe a bit too much – too forced – a bit ridiculous- that they are just looking at each other like a steak after a 40 day fast??!!in front of all the others!!
I noticed when Castle made the comment about his ex wife ('Betrayal, lies, deceit. Sounds like my first marriage')- Beckett just ignores it..1)From Beckett's point of view: then in comes Demming.. well gee which one would you go out with?? the one who tells you who he has slept with and makes derogatory comments about marriage and jokes at his ex-wives' expense?? or the guy who pays attention to you and looks at you like you're special? I had to slap myself here.. wait! you are suppose to want Beckett to be with Castle.. aren't I???I don't really want Beckett with Demming.. I want her to be with Castle.. but at the moment, I can see why she wouldn't pick him!
2)From Castle's point of view – Do you think Castle is stating a truth and covering it up as a joke?? by that moment he had seen Beckett's interest in Demming- could he have been wanting to reach out to her then?? a bad way to do it for sure.. but could the comment have been a play for a bit of Beckett attention?? what do you all think?? I mean had he ever confided to Beckett that he was betrayed??I didn't think Beckett was being rude to Castle.. she was a bit…….. distracted!
I found it interesting that Beckett says Castle can watch the first interrogation.. and the next thing we see castle doing is sitting lonely at her desk making a paper clip necklace ( a present for Beckett? LOL..) – he says Beckett and Demming are interviewing- it's interesting that Castle chose not to watch Beckett and Demming interview the guy.. I found that was not the usual Castle.. don't you think?? he has always tried to stick his nose in wherever he can..Starbeeper- I thought your take on Castle's ride in this episode was so beautifully expressed! I really enjoyed your post! That he looked Lost was spot on I think (thumper I see you thought that too!).. yes this is unexplored territory for Castle.. ( *doz rubs her hands together with glee and laughs evil laugh* ) I can't wait to see Castle look at some painful home truths!!! :-)I have always thought that no alarm bells were sounded for Castle with Will because it didn't matter what Will felt, Beckett wasn't into him.. So – when Castle saw Beckett being into this guy it was like – ohhhhh arrrrrghhh!! whaaa?? nooooo!!!( my how eloquent I am!! ) – eg. when Demming is saying ' Bold! I like you're style' – Castle can see he is totally into Beckett – but he's fine with that.. it is seeing her be totally into Demming that freaks him out..unniw- loved your long version of your postvery very true.. I almost feel like I have to go back to the beginning and remember why it is I think they should be together in the first place.. and remind myself of why I think under it all Castle is a good man.. If learning about Beckett is peeling the Beckett onion- what is getting to know Castle?? ummm… peeling a garlic bulb? ( cos men tend to compartmentalise??!!) and.. onion and garlic go really well together as the basis of the most yummy dishes!! ( I will steer away from jibes about garlic breath!)btw- that medallion on the err stamp collector was a riot! I am sure that indiana jones used that to find the location of the hidden chamber of the well of the souls- where the arc of the covenant was kept- no???Oh man.. this is so long- sorry! Well stated (posted) Nalissa. Castle's the guy with whom you fool around. Demming is the guy you take home to your parents. The lack of chemistry reported may actually be the lack of antagonism that we've grown accustomed to with Beckett and Castle. I liked Demming and I thought he and Beckett were a good match. I like Castle more because Beckett is in a battle against herself where he is concerned. Demming is safe therefore boring. Of course, Demming is the guy she should pursue but the Castle dynamic is way more interesting.

Ok, haven't read what anyone else posted, so I'm sure I repeated what everyone else said…
I never would have thought after reading the previews for this episode that the one thing that would come to mind first after watching this episode is Nathan Fillion is a great actor. I really would have thought the hot new detective or the sparring session would have been first, but what really stood out was how Nathan portrayed how sad and reflective Castle was at the poker table with Alexis, his face when he saw Beckett and Demming at the end, as well as the pure joy at being called Esposito’s partner. I guess I marvel at Stana’s performance so much, that I take Nathan for granted sometimes. I really saw that there is something underneath the Castle surface and it was telling how Castle was uncomfortable with finding that there is something underneath. Now the boy just needs to get it in gear or he’ll lose the girl!
There was a lot I liked in this episode, it was quite Esposito heavy and that was great, Jon really rocked the episode. Loved the underlying themes of loyalty, Ryan to Esposito, Esposito to his old partner, Beckett to Esposito, Castle to them all. Lots of little things, like Beckett getting in Esposito’s face about his meltdown, but then turning sympathetic once she heard what happened, Beckett subtly nodding Ryan to go after Esposito, Ryan shaking the IA guy about where was Esposito, the meet my partner Ryan and my partner Castle (really loved that moment). You could tell that it was written by an ex-cop, Will Beall. Well done.
I just love that the writers take the cliché and turn it just a bit, everyone was expecting the sparring session to be some kind of clichéd cute meet and foreplay fighting, but it wasn’t. Beckett didn’t try and defend her new crush when he became a suspect, she backed her team and wanted to kick his -ss. And man does she kick butt, of course there was some underlying tension to boot in the hot sparring session. The Three Stooges, Ryan, Esposito and Castle, stealing his phone, was just hilarious. I was a little annoyed with Castle after last episode, so I really, really wanted to love Demming, or hottie Detective, he’s a nice guy, he’s definitely hot and has great arms, but alas he’s kind of boring. When Ryan confirmed his alibi about coaching an underprivileged youth team and Castle said “oh geez” I didn’t hear Castle, because I was saying “oh brother” at the same time. He's a good guy and definitely worthy of Beckett, but I don’t know, what does it say about me, but I would have liked a little more edge to him, maybe a little more wit too (if your finger gets tired I can push the mouse button for you? Really?). Heck if he would have said he was playing guitar in a cop band in front of 20 people, that might have been enough of an edge. And it isn’t that I’m just a Castle shipper or whatever, he’s just too white toast boring for me I guess. But he is really, really nice to look at for the next 3 episodes and I do like and respect him more than Sorenson
Not much B/C banter, which I missed, but it made sense in the context of Beckett’s attention was elsewhere and it served to kind of relegate Castle to the background, which he clearly didn’t like. Guess he is finding out stuff about himself. Loved Beckett covering for Esposito in front of the Captain and Castle finishing her story and offering to help the Captain write his report. Loved how the Captain knew they were telling a white lie and shooed them out of his office with disgust, but also in a paternal fashion. And we all KNEW they had a pool going and loved that Lanie confirmed it and had lost money on them! Another great episode. I love these characters and will trust in the writers since they rock.
I agree with everything you said, m_hahn. Especially regarding Demming's being boring. Maybe that's what it is that keeps me from really getting invested in his character – as Castle said, he's too pretty, too perfect, too much of exactly what you'd THINK Beckett would want. He was still nice though, especially with how he dealt with Castle, and with how at one point he and Castle exchanged a surprised look at Beckett's thoughts.
I also agree with you that Nathan may have topped Stana in this one (I know it sounds sacreligious to say so, and please don't hurt me), but his facial expressions were great. I know Nathan is awesome at playing the handsome, joking roguish character, so it's good to see him stretch himself, do something dramatic (like the look he gives Alexis after their poker game and the look he's ogt on his face when he sees Beckett & Demming talking at the end), and even get a little choked up when Esposito called him a partner.
great summary!

wow. i never saw that coming… this can't be good. they were spitting a lot of venom at each other in that first episode and i really thought that would be the last we would see of her (i actually liked meredith more than her, and that isn't saying much).
i must have nodded off somewhere… castle is falling behind in his writing? i thought he was doing fine until now… or is he spending too much time "on the job" at the precinct, or saving beckett from burning buildings to find time at home?

Well said. I saw some chemistry between Beckett and Demming but it's on another level of what she has with Castle. I think it's just different, not forced. We didn't see them together enough or even outside of work to really get a good reading on it.
On another topic, was there this much sympathy for Beckett when she was regulated to 3rd wheel? I agree Nathan nailed the sadness in his scenes whereas Beckett had a bit of a different reaction. I just think it's funny after all of Castle's behavior as a playboy he gets the most sympathy.

For me it's less funny, but rather makes me sad and a little bit angry, 'cause I care about Kate more…
