OfflineI didn't watch Romantically Challenged so I don't know how bad it was, but I wouldn't place all the blame for the drop on that show. Baseball season is in full swing now (pun intended) and basketball and hockey are in their playoff seasons. So there is a lot more on TV right now to choose from–and a lot of things that many people prefer to watch live. Personally, if my baseball team is playing at a given time, 9 times out of 10 I'm going to watch the game and flip to something else during commercials. And yes, that includes Castle. Watching a TV show later off of the DVR is pretty much the same as watching it as it airs but watching a sporting event off the DVR doesn't compare to watching it live.
So yeah, it's not great news that the numbers were down but to me it wasn't a surprise with so much other stuff available to watch now.

OfflineNot really buying the so much stuff to watch theory. I mean didn't CSI Miami go up from last week? Why didn't the ratings go down across the board if that were the case? The ratings aren't bad but it was a little disappointing to see after the previous weeks. I just hope it's not a trend. It was such a good episode too. W.B. is one of my fav writers on the show. He always gets the blend of comedy and drama just right.

I agree Nalissa. I would have liked to have seen Castle continue to tie or beat CSI. The fact that CSI's ratings went up and were good suggests that other factors were involved other than extra sporting events to watch. I hope it's not a trend, too. ABC needs to promote the heck out of the final 3 episodes. Castle always seems to falter a little after the repeat weeks.

I didn't say you had to buy it, it's just my take on it. If you want to take the totally negative view then that's your right, I just choose to see it another way.

"Romantically challenged"… needs to go away from 9:30 PM, 'cause it's going to hurt "Castle" ratings even more in the weeks to come. "Castle" is the best combination just with DWTS and nothing in between.

Wow.. I didn't think I was being totally negative. Just realistic. Didn't mean to offend you.

You didn't offend me, I just followed the tone of your reply. I don't think it's realistic to pin the lower numbers completely on the debut of Romantically Challenged, and that's what is being done in a lot of places, this thread included.
In my opinion (and that's all I'm stating) it's much more realistic to look at a wide range of factors that contributed to the drop. One of those being the new lead-in and one of those being–again, in my opinion–the wide range of other choices on TV at the moment.

Well I don't know what tone you think you hear, but it certainly wasn't antagonistic or combative. I was just stating my point of view. I never mentioned RC at all. And that's all I have to say on this topic.

OfflineThe same thing happened when ABC plugged Surviving Surburbia in front of Castle last year. Of course Castle's ratings were not as high then as they are now. I could see them testing a new show out back then.
I'm with Nalissa. It's not the end of the world but it is disappointing to see such a big drop in the key demo and a smaller dip in total viewers. We were tying or beating CSI: Miami so why would ABC mess with the lineup that's been successful for them finally? It kills momentum.
I hope they move RC before Castle returns for the final 3 episodes.

OfflineABC is just doing business.
They have a new show – they plug it in after their most successful show to catch as many eyes as they can.
They might move it later but they just want to establish it first.
The show was not bad for the first half, I got a few laughs, but it didn't hold my attention through the second half and I stopped watching it, leaving the tv on only because I was you know, waiting for The Best Show On!!

OfflineCastle still did pretty well, but I agree that 'Romantically Challenged' needs to move. ABC also needs to continue with the positive promotion of Castle. I also think that one thing that hurt the ratings this week was that some fans were offended with last weeks episode, but to be a true fan you can't let one episode affect you that much. There may be some episodes that you don't like as well as others from time-to-time, but that doesn't mean the show has lost it's touch. Hopefully fans will see recaps that are positive, ABC will up promotion again and the new show on before Castle will be dealt with appropriately.

I'm not speaking for castleobserver but I know I personally saw a LOT of comments after last week's episode about Castle's behavior with the actress (I can't recall her name right now and I don't have time to look it up). Comments along the lines that Castle no longer deserves Beckett and that they are no longer a Castle/Beckett shipper. And some of the comments came from people who I know have been long-time, rabid fans of the show.
That could also have something to do with the decline in numbers this week, though I didn't see it that way there could be some people who were turned off enough by Castle's fling that they lost the desire to watch. Especially if they were newer viewers, they may have seen it as a radical change in his character from what we'd seen in the most recent new episodes leading up to it.
