OfflineFirst of I want to say that I loved this episode- not in my top ones, but its certainly up there. I think its because it perfectly combined drama and comedy, finally gave us an Esposito episode and introduced us to Demming.
-I'm a relatively new Castle fan so I wasn't sure how everyone else reacted to Demming? I thought he was great because it was good seeing Beckett with someone new, and I thought they had great chemistry. And obviously we get to see jealous Castle building towards the finale (even if he was barely in it this episode). I always love new (recurring) additions to the cast. It was actually cute when Demming asked Castle if something was happening with him and Beckett and got really happy. And that sparring session was hot! It'd be interesting to see Demming come back sometime in Season 4, although I highly doubt it.
-We also got to see the emotional side of Ryan and Esposito as a partnership, which I loved. Especially at the end when Esposito introduced Ryan and Castle as his partners. Has Beckett ever introduced Castle as her partner before this?
-The scene when they were trying to steal Demming's phone was hilarious. The sneaking around mixed with the sparring was a great combo.

Great point!! No, I don't recall her ever saying that to anyone. I hope she does this season!

OfflineI avoid this episode like the plague lol. I love the acting the stories all about it except the enter Demming part to the story. Although I know the purpose of these SO is to make Castle realize that he could/should be more with Kate instead of having short flings with a bunch of Ellie or someone else. That's why i think the Nikki Heat episode was a good tie in to this aspect of castle's personality. He is in fact a man who can say NO. Would have been perfect if they had shown "poof" before "nikki heat" though like it was meant to.
The story the writer is telling me is that, "If i can't be with the one i love, I'll love the one I'm with" is just not true for Castle. So…wow how he has grown.
On a side note: of all the 3 guys we have seen Kate dating, don't u guys think Sorensen is the nicest. I don't like Josh or Demming much. (Disclaimer: Don't get me wrong I want it 2 be Caskett just like everyone else in the fandom )

OfflineI think I'm in the minority when it comes to Demming. I actually really liked him, but this was probably because I knew from hindsight that he wouldn't stick around for long. But I can understand how people could dislike him at the time the episode initially aired, with no way of knowing how long he'd be around. I think Demming's main purpose for existing was so that Beckett could break up with him later, thus implicitly admitting her feelings for Castle in 2x24 without Castle actually knowing her feelings.
I love the awkward moments between him and Castle. Its as though Demming knows that Castle has feelings for Beckett even though he said he didnt. And because Castle is too afraid to admit it, Demming knows he won, so he gloats a little.
I also really liked that this episode featured Esposito a lot. I suppose this is the sort of thing we can expect in s4?

Wasn't Sorensen also around for only 2 episodes or something? I felt like we never saw much of him… hence very little reason to hate him [Image Can Not Be Found]

OfflineObservations while rewatching Den of Thieves
I’ve been a bit distracted by Real Life for the past several days, so this is late.
Finally, we get an Esposito-heavy episode! I think each of the main cast can carry more story, but there is only 42-odd minutes each episode. And we got to see Michael Ironside. I’ve always liked seeing him on screen, since the original ‘V’.
Opens with Kate working out, but it seems she doesn’t know who the new guy is in the workout room. We’ll meet him in a few minutes.
The next scene with Rick teaching Alexis about “No-limit Texas Hold-em” is cute. But soon, Rick will get schooled himself.
At the murder scene, when Rick notices the victim’s eyes have been closed, they say in unison “That means he knew the victim”. Man, Rick & Kate are sooo compatible. But they are not seeing it yet. And won’t, for another year…
When Demming walks into the bullpen where Rick, Kate, Ryan and Esposito are talking, he is reasonably polite to Rick, and even knows him by reputation. Of Kate’s three potential SOs, he is by far the best of the bunch. Ryan seems the first to pick up on a budding jealousy from Rick.
I am, however, bothered by how dismissive Kate is toward Rick when she is with Demming. Rick mutters “Two weeks ago, I saved your life twice.” But he seems to have forgotten what happened last week with Ellie Monroe.
Rick notices Kate’s eyes following Demming. She’s busted, but tries to cover it, not successfully.
Lanie quizzes Kate about her non-involvement with Rick, but Kate even tries to cover it up with her. We won’t see much close personal interaction between Kate & Lanie after this.
Rick’s “Betrayal, lies, deceit. Sounds like my first marriage.” Rick’s been deeply hurt, and Kate seems uninterested. We know she has her own emotional injuries, but we have not yet seen how deep they are, or why they make her so ready to go to other men rather than to Rick who has been standing right there, almost every day.
When Demming approaches Rick about Kate, he sure rolled over pretty quickly. Demming has been the most respectful of the three SOs. With Sorenson, Rick at least stood up to him, as a challenge. But with Demming – why did he fold so easily?
Then Rick loses to Alexis, too. But he didn’t lose to Demming, he just gave up without an effort.
Later, after they clear Demming as a potential suspect, Rick shows his value by his creative insight. And Captain Montgomery is able to pull strings more powerful than Internal Affairs has. He doesn’t reveal his connections – maybe that’s where “the dragon” came in to help?
We catch a glimpse of how loyal Ryan is to Esposito, not just as a partner, but a close friend and comrade, too.
Oh, yes, Racine’s ledger must be fireproof.
I liked the scene in Capt. Montgomery’s office, as the gang struggles with the explanation. He knows they are fabricating their story, ans says he needs “a private citizen to help write up this damn mess.” And we know who is a creative writer… Roy seems quite willing to sweep irregularities under the rug, as long as he can have a plausible story for the “official” report. We will find out he has been part of previous coverups.
At the end we see Kate & Demming having a fun moment, with Rick on the outside looking in…

OfflineFirst off Jon H looks great in Red! that just needed to be said. Den of Thieves is written by Will Beall, so we know it’s going to be good and directed by John Terlesky. With this episode we begin the run to seasons end.
I think it was a good introduction for Demming in the Gym, which goes on to pave the way for the later distraction scene. When Demming and Beckett are officially introduced, everyone notices the connection and E and Ryan are quick to tease.
Castle is a little put out a couple of times, “Two weeks ago I saved your life twice” he says. What was there for him to do? Demming invited Beckett to sit in, not Castle, I don’t get why he was so put out. If he wanted to be creative and helpful maybe he could have thought of something more productive than stringing safety clips together.
“Watch and learn Castle, watch and learn” complete with a Beckett twirl, which Castle imitates. Love it. The location where Racine had his office was a good one. Beckett looks at a Demming as he walks off and Rick notices.
I love the silent nod Beckett gives to Ryan to look after Esposito, good team work. “Treachery, lies, deceit, sounds like my first marriage” Castle says, then in comes Demming and he straight out asks Castle if he is involved with Beckett. In some way I think Castle can be forgiven for giving the answer he has been conditioned to give. No there is nothing going on. Demming gives him a second opening and again Castle says “no flag on the play”. His quick mind let him down on that occasion as it did not dawn on him what he had done until Demming was out of the room. Poker face, indeed. Castle then tells Alexis that he is not used to losing, but IMO it’s hard to win if you don’t put yourself in the game.
Then we have the distraction scene and I love Castles reasons for not liking Demming, so Castle like. And he looks so put out when they discover Tom is such a good with a capital G guy.
One of the best lines of the series goes to Ryan. “I’m your partner, I’m with you till the wheels fall off”. E got a good line too, “my other partner Castle”. Good stuff.
I love Beckett covering for E in the Montgomery’s office and then Castle jumping on board and also love Kate’s wink to E as he leaves the room. SK and JH play so well together.
In the final scene when Castle sees Beckett and Demming talking in the break room it appears as Rick watches, turns away, and then turns back that he has decided to fight the good fight after all. It’s one of my few disappoints with the show that he did not go through with it. Very good Episode.
