OfflineI saw an extended promo for Ep. 22 tonight on CTV (which, bad Canadian that I am, I didn't even realize was carrying Castle this year. I always watch on ABCHD from Detroit)
Well.
I was annoyed as hell to see Castle brandishing a diamond ring in Beckett's direction. Even though we know that aint gonna happen, the way this promo was read gave a misleading impression. You could almost say false advertising. Of course I guess I should wait to see the actual show – heh – but this ticks me off. I tell ya, I am going to stop caring if TPTB don't stop trying to manipulate us like this.
Shameless and shameful.
IMO.

Offlinehello! thanks for sharing your thoughts on this spinja.. I'm with you!
I actually haven't seen episode 22 yet- so wondering how you felt now you have seen the episode?
I just saw a fabulously funny promo – with a burn notice/ white collar cross over – and it was very funny and entertaining.. and it was true to the characters and where they are at. (If you see it, it is the one where Fi says ' What grenade?' - rofl!!) The contrast with this type of castle promo was vast- in content and effect!
There is simply no need to do promos that mislead.. it looks bad for the show if it does encourage someone to watch – then they see it wasn't what they thought the show was.. and they see that the show isn't good enough or confident enough in it's quality to do promotions that are true to what is actually going on in the show!
I think that is a really bad look.. not only does it disappoint new viewers, but it cheeses off loyal viewers too (Are you calling Castle fans stupid??!! hehehe) - when the promo makes promises that it never keeps. I now habitually roll my eyes at any bones promo I see – as it is sell sell sell – this could be the ep when booth and bones get together!! and I just want to yell at the tv – stop insulting our intelligence and write something worth watching or go away!!
Misleading promos may bring in more viewers, but it doesn't keep them.. but hey just my opinion…
There.. I've had my little rant.. promos can draw in an audience, add suspense and mystery – but they should never over sell what is going to happen in an episode or basically LIE! they have to stick true to where the characters are at.. I wonder if Marlowe has control over the promos too. I don't remember the promos being this annoying to start with in Castle history ( short that it is!) would you all agree?
byeeeee, Doz

If I am remembering what Terri once said, they have no control over what goes into the promos. ABC decides that.

OfflineAh! I guessed that may be the case that it is ABC making these decisions.. grrrr.. bad ABC..
yep Dutchie, I remember Fi getting shot – and she really did get shot in that ep- so did Mike and Sam
well.. only fake shot!
I think there is a difference between showing a character getting hit by a bullet – which when you watch the ep turns out to be a set up – as opposed to the ongoing manipulation of bones' adverts teasing that this may be the week for Booth and Bones.. yada yada.. Setting up some suspense is only to be expected.. but constantly misrepresenting where characters are at is promoting a different show entirely to the reality.. just IMO though!
burn notice fan too Dutchie? I love the burn!!
