OfflineWhat I absolutely love about this show is that even a premise as well-trod as "the other guy" can still feel fresh, juicy and subtle. I was cringing at the thought of Castle temper tantrums and Becket/Castle sniping, but generally speaking everything was deliciously underplayed. Sure, it's obvious that Demming has Castle on edge and he isn't his cheerful, charming self, but I never once felt he stepped into the territory of being a real brat about it.
He just wants to win. I'm not even sure he's aware of why he wants to win yet.
And I never felt Beckett was cruel… or at least, not out of character in the way that she pushes back with Castle. She's a girl who has a guy that she likes and everything is kinda rosier because of it. She's not deliberately rubbing it in Castle's face, but she's not going to tip-toe around him either because she's got her own life. He's her friend. They aren't together and, in her mind at least, they never will be.
And I really liked the case which had me guessing right up until the end. It was perhaps a little bit rushed in its tie up, but I can almost forgive that with the amount that was going on. I also like that somehow the answer that the writer's came up with to the competitive element of the episode is that these two guys were equally right… perhaps even equally worthy of Beckett… so it comes down to who will she chose. Although there was a very interesting moment when Demming got a ringside seat to the Castle/Beckett back-and-forth.
One more and then we hang up our hats for the summer. It's been a great, great season.

OfflineOkay, during chat I noticed that there were some mixed emotions to this episode. So, here’s my take.
As a whole, I enjoyed it. I really did! While yes sometimes, Kate seemed a little OOC, but in the end it helped Castle realize his feelings. It opened his eyes to the fact that Kate might be more than just his muse. And the episode as a whole set up the tone for the finale perfectly.
Nathan hit the emotional marks flawlessly. I even teared up a little at the end – and shows rarely make me cry. I also loved Ryan and Espo with the shaving cream. Too funny! "Guys? A man has been murdered.." HAHA! Plus the SATC reference! As a fan of SATC, I went all fangirl.
I also enjoyed the exchanges between Castle and Demming. I'm glad Kate solved this murder by herself, well, to an extent. And not to mention, this was one murder that was a little harder to figure out! Props to whoever wrote it
And I’ve listened to “Crash and Burn” by Lifehouse on repeat since the episode aired!
And now I’m off to patiently wait until next Monday for the finale. I don’t even want to talk about the summer hiatus. It’s going to be a painful summer. I’ll be rewatching 2x23 tomorrow, so I might have more input then!
EDIT: Kitten pointed this out on Twitter… where was this moment? http://bit.ly/cAP4EG I was really looking forward to this scene! I hope it makes it to the season two DVD extras!

OfflineAnd the promos are up! Yes, promos, as in plural! Click for the one aired on ABC (curtosy of Ash). And click for another one from CTV (Canadian channel). And thanks to Ash for tweeting this one!
They look awesome! Though I'm sure most of it is just to attract more viewers.. as they always are!
EDIT: For those who don't like to watch promos of any sort, I'll put it under spoiler bars.
I just rewatched both promos, and it turns out that I was totally right. If you look closely you can tell that the images when Kate says "You're seriously asking me to your place in the Hamptons" are mirror images of each other. Her bangs are flipped…

OfflineYes, cry talk was hilarious!
:
I found it interesting that Beckett wasn't wearing necklace with her mom's ring at the beginning.
It felt so good seeing B&C having their moment of putting the crime story together in front of Demming. Sorry Dem, I'm Castle's girl.

Offlinecastle brazenly offering the bottled water to the fashion model… he was hoping for something epic, wasn't he? LOL
the scene in which castle wanted his mother to "crush her rival" instead of writing that letter… did castle have a change of heart and realized the road to ruin he was heading down, or was he getting even more determined to "crush" demming?
"male vanity being what it is"… a quote from beckett in the end with capt. montgomery. is beckett fully aware of what she is doing? in saying those words, is she intentionally/knowingly pitting demming and castle against each other, both in solving the case, and in wooing her?
poor castle. if he had only told demming to keep away when demming asked him for "permission"… the castle world would have been a happier place.
and now with the shaving cream fiasco ryan and esposito have made castle enemy#1 too!
(special mention: esposito stealing pop from the vending machine… that never works in real life! if i tried that at work i would probably get squished and someone would have to call 911)

OfflineI'll be glad when Demming is gone and we have the real KB back.
Also, using scenes from Suicide Squeeze in the promo? WTF?

OfflineOK on first viewing – I liked it and more than I thought I might after viewing comments as it was going to air in the States (I can't help it, I can't not read about it first if it's possible to do so. I need to be prepared) IMO surprises are for the birds! Castle was not as over the top as I was afraid he might be, the awareness of his feelings is really kicking in and I felt for him. Loved that pointed little scene with Martha. I thought Beckett was still quite in character during this episode, she is enjoying Demmming and Castle is not as at the top of her thoughts as he might otherwise be. But I don't think she was mean or uncaring at all. I'm glad she was the one who put it all together. Loved their theory building with Demming watching, and loved Ryan. Oh and loved Castle rubbing over Demmings name out in the scene with Alexis at the beginning, yes indeed if it was only that easy. Will have more thoughts after re-watching. Looking forward to reading everyone's opinions.

OfflineI loved how Beckett ended up solving the crime, after all the competing between Demming and Castle
Looks like Castle is rubbing off on Beckett, seeing as how she was re-enacting the scene of the crime at the end and putting herself in the killers' shoes- like Castle does sometimes when he says how he would write it or do it.
Favorite quotes:
Sex and the City references
Castle: "Wait, that means I'm Carrie…" Beckett"You are so metro-sexual for knowing that!"
Lanie: "It's like Sex and the City…with boys."
Beckett: "Male vanity being what it is."
But at the very end my heart sank again when I saw Castle's facial expression… :( I'm glad that they had him watching her as she walked by the break room and she looked up at him curiously. I find it a little odd that Beckett would kiss a guy in the precinct, and then in the promo for the finale there all over each other while she sits on her desk- seems unlike Beckett. Oh well "Schlemming" will be gone hopefully after next week. Ah next week is gonna be crazy! Is it Monday yet???

OfflineI LOVED this episode, and I too am glad that Beckett was the one who ultimately solved the case (using a method she learned from Castle, no less). My heart still broke a little for Castle at the end though. At least Beckett peeked in on him after she kissed Demming. He's not invisible to her; she cares about him, she just doesn't yet see the full impact that she and Demming as a couple are having on him.
If only she knew…….those DEEP, DEEP feelings Castle has harbored are coming out full force……can't wait for next week!

OfflineI loved this episode. It had a lot of funny moments; Benny the hotel guy was great. I liked how the kiss at the end was just a short ’see ya later’ kind of kiss, casual but still telling, but I really felt for Castle in that scene too. I can’t wait for next week.
About next week:
I'm wondering about Castle asking Kate to the Hamptons, but if that is the big emotional suprize talked about for the finally then I can see how it would work. Castle asks her to come and then at the end of the episode, after Kate has done her thinking etc. to be able to decide, she tell him "Yes I'll go" or "No sorry" and then it cuts to black like the season one ender. So either way we are left to wonder what happened or didn't happen on the trip.
