YES!!! That's exactly it Sarah!  Yes, shows change and characters evolve but you don't take a main character and have her go from "none of your business" to openly kissing in the hallway at work with no development of that.  It is a radical change that totally breaks from everything we've been told and learned about Beckett up until now.  And that's why this is my least favorite episode of the series so far.

This is the first time we have seen Kate in a relationship …and the first time with a guy anywhere since Will…who she DID kiss in public (and was caught by Castle), so it isn't entirely out of the blue (or OOC I guess); it has just been a very long time since anyone has witnessed it.

I personally have no issue with either Castle or Kate and their behaviors (according to the writers…if anyone has an issue, it should be with them)…other characters may want them together, viewers may want them together, but they are not together in any way other than work or friendship, so I don't have an issue with their behaviors with other love interests.  I think most of the negativity directed toward Castle recently was in relation to the hook-up in the absence of a relationship–something that would not make Beckett think more seriously about him.

The turn in tone of this thread kind of frustrates me for the first time on this board because it does not seem friendly.  Again, just my opinion.

To be fair, Will kissed her, and she did seem embarrassed by that…

I did feel for Castle in this episode, the little things like Demming in Kate's chair, that has to hurt a little when Castle has time to think about it. But IMO no way was Beckett out of line with her intentions or actions.  She called Castle on being rude with the none of your business line, it would have been interesting to have that extended a little before the others came in. She's not throwing Demming in his face, she down played the sharing a ride and the kiss was spur of the moment, semi out of the way and when she was not aware that Castle was even still there. Then when she does see Castle we get the "we make a good team" line. To this viewer Beckett has always been all class and remains so.

There was a scene when Castle was putting forward possible motive options when he said that the Company lady (can't remember her name) and the boss may have been in a relationship which goes south and they can't work together any more so she kills him. It's he second time, the first being Season 1 Ep when Castle mentions sleeping with his interior designer that Castle mentions the danger of work relationships and them not working our, just thought it was interesting.

As I mentioned at the start of this thread I liked this episode much more than I thought I would. I love Castle, the show and the man (will love him even more as he continues to grow, which I think he can do without losing what makes him fun and heartwarming). And I think Beckett is the best female character on television, certainly my favorite.  I was not familiar with either NF or SK before this show and the fact that I care so much for and about the characters they bring to life each week frankly scares me a little. Never meant to get this invested but invested I am.

I think we're taking a simple kiss a making a mountain out of mole hill with it.  To me, it was not a big deal, it looked like a simple goodbye kiss in what was, until Castles entrance, a secluded hallway.  It looks like I might be in the minority.  I'm really thinking that it was a way to show us, the viewers, and Castle that their relationship is progressing.  A wake-up call to Castle, if you will, so that he really gets the message about Beckett and Demming.  I guess it speaks to the power of these characters and this show that we can get so incredibly worked up over this.

I completely understand why they had to kiss where they kissed, Castle HAD to see it.

I can tell we all love this show and these characters so much, and it shows in our passionate discussion of it and them

I have not been on a message board for a show since S3 of Alias in '03, when ironically I completely railed against the triangle that was Vaughn/Sydney/whatever the hell her characters name was (Melissa George).  I hated her because she completely ruined the show and I quit watching after S3 because of it.   I also hated her because she was unnecessary, just as I feel Demming is.

I may be overreacting to four eps of Castle, but I just don't want to see another show ruined by the other man/woman syndrome.  I have faith in the writers I really do, but I am not gonna lie, my faith has slipped a little after last nights ep.

Mig….. I'm a fellow former Alias fan although I never visited the boards.  I actually watched through the fourth season but the writing was awful.  The other love interest storyline is fine with me.  I'm against that being the reason for the Beckett/Castle hook up though.  Surprise us.  Let them hook up for no other reason than they are two attractive adults, working together daily, who realize they can't stand being without the other.

Sooo, on another note, Susan Sullivan's commenary for 2x23 is up on ABC….

Jordan: He cares about you, Kate. You may not see it. You may not be ready to. But he does. ♥ ♥ ♥ Kate: Of course he makes you feel alive but eventually you know he's just going to let you down. So, why risk it? Castle: Because the heart wants what the heart wants.

I totally agree! Epic fail, ABC! And I really, really hope ALL of these commentaries go on the DVD. I read the text commentary, but it's not the same as watching the episode and hearing the actors speak about them.

What a heartbreaking episode.  I really feel sorry for Castle,  he competes really hard with Demming for Becketts attention and then the sudden realization that he is losing the battle for her.  I love the way the writers played it out,  the quiet moments with simple glances were handled perfectly, instead of unnecessary monologues.

I love Martha's comment – "In life, not everything's gonna go your way" reminding Castle that his situation now with Beckett and Demming is some sort of a story that he can't write the end; and Castle's "You should crushing your rivall, not give her comfort".  An excellent way to highlight his real feelings which often get lost under his layers of charm and charisma.

I love the scene where Castle and Beckett crack the case and somewhat completes each other sentences again,  Demming was lost and felt that there is something between the two that he can never be a part of.

Demming is a good guy.  It would be easy to hate him is he was different, but i'd still prefer the Ruggedly handsome overgrown man-boy with a heart of gold for our fiery and extraordinary detective.

I just remembered something… in "Mistress", the boys were giving Ryan a hard time about his girlfriend in the beginning of the episode and Beckett made a comment which I now find kind of funny… she said: "you guys give him a break, I wouldn't bring my boyfriend around here either"

just saying… funny.

Hey I have a question….not sure if anyone else said this, so sorry if I'm repeating.

In the promo pics, there's a pic of Castle touching Beckett's hair…what happened to that? I haven't watched it again yet, and only caught a few looks at the tv around that time of the scene- I was multi-tasking with studying so I wasn't sure if they kept that part out or not.

Pretty sure that was a behind the scenes picture.

Oh ok…thanks smile Wish it was a scene though…lol

Stana is just the most exquisite, gorgeous, and contained female. My favorite Stana story is when she came in while I was in the Wardrobe department trying on outfits. She walked in and covered her eyes. I told her it was okay—it was just us girls—but she kept her eyes covered. She is one of the most modest women I've ever encountered and it was so sweet. It was such an insight into her.

I've only watched the ep once and I have a few opinions, but I'm not ready to jump in and discuss fully.  I do however love that this is such a passionate and articulate group, we really love our show and the post show discussion is the most fun.

And for the record, I loved Stana's hair, apparently there was some strong anti-curl sentiment, but I like it a lot.  It was fun but still elegant and something that Beckett could pull off.   The jacket however, I hated, it reminded me of the baby blue pleather seats in a 1970's van.

Susan's quote above really interests me, I don't know that I've ever heard the word "contained" used to describe a woman, but I kind of like it, it's actually a very telling word.  And it fascinates me how unusually and painfully shy actors can be.  I have friends who work on TV shows and they've told me that a lot of  actors are shy and somtimes kind of odd, and we know Stana is shy in certain situations, and she's described herself as odd, lol.  But it's a very interesting personality separation to me that an actor who can do a nude scene with another nude woman, and who has done a sex scene, would actually be that modest in real life.  Until I had friends who worked in the industry, I had always assumed that actors were very out there, free spirited, not at all shy types, but I guess the fact that most people don't see that side of them is what makes them great as actors.
