I was really disappointed in one scene in Overkill.  I have really enjoyed the way that they have built of the Beckett character as a young woman in a male dominated industry who is smart, tough, compassionate, ultra-professional, and a leader.  All the while not being neurotic, shrill, scheming, or whatever else seems to afflict most women in positions of power on TV.  It seemed they had gotten it right in how they portrayed a working woman on TV.  However, in Overkill I thought it was totally out of character for Beckett to be kissing Demming in the precinct.  It was 15 feet from the booking Sergeant and there is no after hours in a police station, in fact in NYC, I’d hazard to guess that after 7pm the arrests ramp up with drunk and disorderly charges.  There is no way the character they have presented so far would undermine her credibility in her own precinct on her own floor, she is the one that said “do you know how hard it is to be a women in a male dominated profession” and “that’s why they call it a private life”.   As presented so far, she is a woman who is analytical, considering everything and is seemingly very conscious of decorum (she’s always chiding Castle for his lack of).   And for those that say it was a quick goodbye kiss, it was a bit more intimate than that, holding hands and leaning into the guy is way more PDA than you should ever do at your workplace.  Well at least 90% of the workplaces in the world.  And it wasn’t that it was a kiss with Demming, I would not have had a problem with the kiss at all if it was done at say, the coffee shop next door.  And I would be equally upset had Castle been the one kissing her.

In an effort to try to avoid starting another full-blown argument, all I'm gonna say is that I respectfully disagree.

"Make you a deal," she said. "I'll watch my ass, you watch the crowd."

Hey don't get me wrong I did say I saw your point, and BTW I have been in Management for over 7 years!! Its just I see it as a tv show that tries to keep it as real as can be (unlike numerous others) but needs to tweak a few things to let the scenes that need to be shown get in. There are so few flaws in this show and this one is not a petty one but still is not such a disgrace imo.

The "yeah right" was OOC although I do believe it was needed as it lead to many paths for the rest of the ep. Anyways, as someone mentioned earlier with so many different views on this ep and Beckett's comments and actions it shows the variety of viewers watching which is a secret to the show's success…Innocent

Is It Monday Yet???

hi guys.. wow.. I am very far behind in these discussions.. I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth here..

I read alot of comments about this episode before I actually watched it.. and I had an impression in my mind that Beckett was all gushing over Demming throughout the episode- but I found her to treat him in a professional manner throughout- until the final kiss…

There are lots of different views on whether or not the kiss should have taken place in general, or in a precinct, or if it was compatible with who we had been told Beckett was..

I can buy this kiss as being in character for Beckett – because it was in an out of the way area, and most people in that area had gone home.. and interestingly- she thought Castle had gone home. I think had she known Castle was still there she would have shut that kiss down!

(It's the neck nuzzling moment in the season finale that I have big issues with!!!)

I also think the kiss was very brief. It seemed longer to us though, because as Castle saw them kissing – the kiss was shown  in slow motion a little.. so as to portray Castle's shock at what he was seeing.. and it conveyed it very well – he was very upset by it.. no doubt about it!! but.. what did it mean for him? did he work it out? who knows.. I still don't know.. anyway… just wanted to say I actually thought Beckett handled the two men well in this episode- especially with Castle's snippy little comments and trying to disregard a line of enquiry which should have been rightly investigated.. Beckett stayed on track, focused on the case and was, I felt, respectful of both the men's ideas..

I thought Beckett laughing at Castle's request to sit in on Demming's interview was her  thinking that was funny he would ask – as if!(and no different to her attitude to Castle at other times when he over reaches!) would Castle have been happy with Demming sitting in on the interview to do with his line of enquiry? I think not. and Castle yelling at that first guy.. well..  that surprised Beckett at how intense Castle was being about it.. so no not surprised she said no to him joining Demming!!

I don't think she thought it was a competition for her affections.. I actually think the only person who thought that was Castle.. I don't even really get the impression Demming thought it was a competition either- he could see Castle was  in competition mode- but I didn't see any evidence of Demming wanting to beat Castle to it or anything.. he was just focused on getting his job done. (which IMO doesn't make Castle look good!)

I also just wanted to add that the guy murderer was obvious from the moment he opened his mouth.. when the three were questioning Blake – Castle commented that a message had been written on the wall at the murder scene – and Beckett skipped over that area moving on to something else without telling Blake what the message was- if someone you knew was murdered- and you were told there was a message written on the wall- wouldn't you want to know what it said?? and to see if you know what it means and can help find the killer?? this blake guy didn't care less about the message.. so it was obvious from the start he did it!!

The two murders though, I didn't see that one coming.. talk about overkill.. ha haaa.. good title!! byee all, Doz
