Not the high note I would have liked to see us end on but still great numbers, and we picked up lots of viewers from the lead in which is great!

Oh man, I'm actually quite disappointed. That's quite a drop in the 18-49 demo… although Castle's not far behind stinkin' Horacio in total viewers so I can't complain, but it's been getting more viewers overall in the past few weeks now, so I'm also in two minds about this.
I don't know, ever since Boom! and the renewal announcement, the rating's have been dropping, which worries me- especially from Den of Thieves. Huh. I wonder if viewers have been boycotting the "Demming" episodes, now that I think about it…
Edit: Then again, I forgot it's a Romantically Challenged lead-in, not DWTS, so I suppose to sum up, I'm ambivalent about it all.

Not Castle's fault.
The finale promo's were not good, didn't even say "finale" on it!
The lead in was bad bad BAD, we actually improved A LOT from it so that is actually pretty good, I expect to be adjusted up in the finals.
Next year we will still be at 10 PM behind DWTS, I expect some nice big numbers for the premiere!

Yeah, this is a bit of a bummer. I wish the ratings would have come up from last week. Part RC lead-in, part lack of advertising, part unhappiness with 4-ep arc (?).
The part I really didn't get was ABC not calling this a season finale in the promos and hyping it like crazy. Also, they had already canceled RC, so why didn't they ditch the final RC episode for a longer DWTS and a better chance for Castle, which they are keeping? I'm disappointed to see the momentum lost since The Late Shaft. I am hoping for a turn-around for 301 so Castle isn't needing to climb again in season 3.

I totally agree with lack of advertising..I was actually watching Grey's and Private last week and I believe I saw one advertisement for Castle. Though I believe I've seen hundred for Grey's finale this week. I just don't understand it sometimes…and why wasn't ABC calling it the season finale. The whole marketing of it as the "Summer Season" obviously didn't work…

“Castle” (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Building on its lead-in by 1.4 million viewers and by 14% in Adults 18-49, ABC’s second-season finale of “Castle” finished a strong No. 2 to CBS’ veteran “CSI: Miami” in the 10 o’clock hour in Total Viewers (10.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.4/7). Despite having the advantage of a direct “Dancing with the Stars” lead-in for its year-ago finale (5/11/09), “Castle” was up over last year’s season ender in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and across all key Men (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54), while retaining 100% of its Adult 18-49 audience year to year.
Also, Berman had it in the "Winners" column for last night…due to the build on the lead-in?

Well we won't have to worry about RC being the lead in next season since it was cancelled by ABC.
I say to ABC, don't mess with it, if it ain't broke. Don't copy what NBC did.

Considering we shot up from the lead-in, I'd say that's a good thing! Of course, I would have liked them to be higher, but it was still good!
Castle also did well considering there wasn't that much advertising for the finale. I seen a total of two promos in the week before, and none of them even mentioned that it was the finale! But at least Tom Bergeron gave us a little finale plug!

Romatically Challenged was cancelled already? Bummer for my girl Alyssa Milano, but what I saw of the show, which admittedly wasn't much, was not good at all. You wanna talk cliche? Look there.
I gotta say (please forgive me TPTB), but I am really surprised at how poorly the finale was promoted by ABC. They did a fabulous job promoting Sucker Punch and the 2-parter, so why on earth would they drop the opportunity to promote the heck out of the FINALE! As someone alreay said – they never even said in the promo that it was the finale! Just treated it like another episode. I'm so grateful to ABC for giving the show an early renewal and for taking a chance on it last season, but I gotta give it a thumbs down here. Look at how the Grey's Anatomy finale was promoted. Why not do something similar for Castle? I'm sure doing so would have pulled in A LOT more viewers. I even had some friends at trivia night last night who are fans of the show ask me "Is this the finale yet?"

Think of Rick Castle's attributes
- Writer – Creative
- Adores his daughter and "understands" his mother – a good family man
- 10 year old on a sugar rush
- Teenage male attiude towards sex
- Court Jester – his rapier wit
- child like in some regards
- oh yea, I've heard that he is pretty handsome too
all in all a pretty good package.
What ABC did was take one of those attributes - some might say the least appealing of them — Teenage Male Attitude about sexuality — and created a vulgar show that did not fit in with either DTWS or Castle and wedged it inbetween the two. Granted it was called Romantically Challenged and they emphasized the Challenged part. Glad they cancelled it!!
Once again I will call upon The Powers That Be at ABC (yea right – that's going to accomplish something) to not wedge in a show between DTWS and Castle. On the few occasions that DTWS needs to drop to 90 minutes, have the writers of Castle create a 90 minute episode. We had a few of them this year that could have been extended out by the extra half hour.
AND THEN PROMOTE the heck out of it!!! They promoted the episodes with Dana Delany and we got a ratings bump. I cannot tell you how many ad's I have seen for "V", Lost, Flash Forward, Private Practice, Grey's Anatomy, the Deep End. But Castle only gets a handful of ads.

The numbers are pretty solid to me. Castle continues to pull in a solid 10 million viewers each week. And proved it can do so even with the weak lead in.
I just wish we knew why it's not appealing to the key demo. That's the only bummer part about the numbers. Hopefully it can get back up there when season 3 rolls around.
