I thought tonight's episode was pretty good. I liked the case, and I loved how Beckett was mad at Castle because she hadn't been given a copy of Heat Wave.

I thought that they were being a little blind at first though. The first thing that popped into my head was "someone probably killed her so they can take her place". I was surprised that they didn't think of that as a possibility until almost halfway through the show. I was also surprised that they didn't really check the husband's alibi as much as they could have. I thought of him pretty early on too.

But besides that, I thought it was a pretty good episode. Can't wait for next week. :)

GAH! OK, I am always too excited after the 1st viewing to make any sense, but I agree wholeheartedly about Beckett wanting an early copy of Heat Wave! Naturally, she would because of the situation, but also because she is a FAN! :D

Fashion Week made for a good change of pace background – settings, characters, costumes, etc. I also liked a larger storyline for Alexis and Martha, both of whom are played by wonderful actors and often not utilized enough, IMHO. I'm a big fan of the show and never miss an ep, but I'm beginning to think it vital to Castle's survival that they jump start the chemistry between Castle and Beckett which was one of the show's main attractions last season – this season, not so much. Yes, they don't want to rush; yes, they are recovering from an estrangement; no, they don't need an immediate hook up, but I don't think the ratings – baring a miraculous turn around -are going to allow a four or five season dance between the two.

Networks seem to do nonsensical things with their own shows – I think requiring each ep to stand on its own hurts the show as well. A story arc would be a good thing for Castle, Currently, we have only the mystery of Beckett's mother - it rears its head now and again but never becomes pivotal. They shuffle the eps and one week Beckett is adamant that she doesn't want to know, Castle backs off and then the very next week she goes a totally different direction, brings up the uncertainty and pain of a family not knowing. Just saying an arc through a few eps might be a strengthening thing for the show.

There is so much potential with what they have established – I'm hoping they can find a way to broaden appeal so the show will continue

I tend to agree.  I adore the show, so it can do no wrong in my mind.  However, having said that, I think a little bump up in the chemistry department is called for.  Doesn't have to be anything major, just a little tease to keep us interested (more than we already are).

I really liked last night's episode. It was more in tone to what we were used to at the end of season 1. However I think showing out of sequence really hurts the continuity. I'm not sure what the casual viewer or new viewer would think seeing it after The Double Down.

This is the first time I wasn't crazy about the crime of the week. I like the story idea but the suspects did nothing for me. The acting was off for me. Thankfully, I enjoy all the banter in between and the last 10 minutes made up for everything else.

I like how surprised Castle was that he didn't think to get Beckett an advanced copy of Heat Wave. Beckett looked so insulted but that smile afterwards was gold. We know she's a fan so I look forward to her reaction when she reads certain parts.

I wanted to hug Ryan and Esposito for finding that modeling pic of Beckett. Gads, that was hilarious. Loved how Beckett tried to play it off then spun around and threatened to kill them if they told Castle about it. That's a little thing we probably won't see brought up again but that would make for some funny digs later on.

I agree that something needs to excelerate. It doesn't have to be the relationship between Beckett and Castle necessarily but a story arc would probably do. Personally, I could go on forever like this but it seems like something has to happen soon.

I think this is where the switching around of episodes can hurt a show. WHY do they do that?!

Alright, 2nd viewing down. Thank you, Hulu. (Don't know why, but the new ABC viewer and my computer do not get along.)

I think I would agree that the mystery wasn't quite as exciting as they usually are. I think it would have been better had this episode gone rightly 2nd, and not after The Double Down. The nice thing about this one was letting Beckett be the detective. She was the one who essentially got it done and then really showed her skill in the interrogation room. Of course, we all love that Castle can and does help out, but that shouldn't take away from her being kick-butt in her own right. Nice to have him just sit back and watch a little, but again it would've worked better before The Double Down.

Still a very fun episode. I really liked the Martha stuff in this one. Think we'll get to see that great death scene later on?? *hopes*

"Oh, and thanks for calling me 'Big Rick.'" *gigglefit* Oh, that's gonna stick! ROFL

I liked this episode and wished it aired before The Double Down.  I agree that the case was not as convoluted as others, but I don't watch the show primarily for the crime solving.  I love Martha & Alexis and the banter at the precinct, so this one was good in my book.  Will someone crafty please make a wallpaper of all the faces Stana makes?  She's so good at saying stuff without speaking a word.

Favorite scene: The call from Esposito at the morgue.  Castle tries to listen close.  Beckett sighs and switches the phone to her other ear.

Least favorite line: "Can you confirm where you were at between 1 and 5am the night she died?"  I get that you're trying to make Beckett sound more like a New Yorker, but that's just really bad grammar.  At?  No.

Favorite line: "Lookin' good Detective Beckett."  Perfect, especially coming from Esposito.

And, to the make-up artist prepping Stana this season: Thank you for showing us her green eyes.  They're beautiful and last season I just couldn't see them.  As far as I know, Stana didn't get new peepers and I don't have a new TV, so you're doing something right.  Keep up the good work! Smile

So I thought this was a pretty good episode. Although I disagree that they should get more things going with Castle and Beckett. That would rush it too much. I think in terms of bringing it more interesting they should get some drama going with Alexis or Martha who are both awesome characters. I think we should delve a little on Alexis, maybe she could have an encounter with a bully or something that would bring Castle out. Or maybe she could use a girl to girl chat with Beckett. I'm just saying that it would be too early to keep doing things with Beckett and Castle.

But I loved the change of setting with this one focusing on fashion week. I think it definately gave the makeup, hair, and sylists a bit to play with. It was good.

It's funny that people are asking for a bump up in the chemistry, because during the commentary for the pilot they were saying that they had to tone down the chemistry. The suits thought that it was too heavy and the two main characters would end up in bed (together) by the 3rd ep. Bounce

If the ratings were lights out and it was certain there would even be another season – much less an order for more episodes this season – it would be a different matter. It would be great to be sure of the time to develop a deeper relationship for Castle and Beckett, to draw things out amidst the crime solving; audiences love that and it is fun for the faithful, long time viewers too. I'm saying they need something – be it story arcs or more C-B chemistry as a bigger hook for audience. Much as we all love the show here, if they are off the air it won't matter that they waited a long time to put some sparks to things.

Totally agree with you, orangeen.  It's naive to think that there's all the time in the world to establish more chemistry or love interest time with Castle and Beckett.  They need to deliver little hints of that again while there's still time to have it impact the ratings and audience interest.  Doesn't even mean a kiss (sigh) but at least something.  Sure, other storylines with Alexis, Martha, etc. would be nice, too – but aren't we mostly interested in the Castle/Beckett pairing?  I know I am.Love

Not withstanding the brilliance of the suits, there are surely  2 dozen ways to highlight the chemistry between Castle and Beckett without a leap into bed. More personal interaction would be a start – clever banter transition to the more serious. Beckett's reluctance/avoidance of involvement because of their differences, difficulty in seeing beyond his presented image, fear of ruining their working relationship. He has a lot of baggage and might think she deserved and needed a blank slate in a romantic relationship or maybe his fear of any sort of relationship if things took another direction.

Really – those of us who really enjoy and see the potential in the show can see many possibilities – all fairly easily woven into the crime solving fabric of each episode. It is long established that audiences identify and follow characters in whom they have invested emotionally -if the suits made a decision to have a romantic chemistry, then do it. When I watch, I find myself thinking…..the clock is ticking guys and girls and the leash is usually pretty short for these new network series.

I really don't see the issue with the pace or the chemistry the way they have it right now. I've been loving the increased give and take between Castle and Beckett–her showing a bit more of her playful side and him loving every minute of it.

Give me a slow burn to a flash fire any day.

I am happy with the character & relationship development of the show.  I especially like that it is very different than the pace of the character & relationship development of the book.  To the few frustrated viewers, perhaps you should do some reading. Read

6 degrees of separation… or none: Stana Katic and Julian Sands also played together in 24, (where both were crooks).

I wish I knew how to quit you.
