I'm glad Castle made the decision to continue working on his stuff/ideas instead of working off of someone else's. Castle is successful enough on his own that he doesn't need to ride someone elses wave.
I'd love it if we got another book or two. Especially after todays news of the shows full season pick up.

Hey Boston…Your post episode reviews are great, since you think just like me.
Thanks! I try not to say that every episode is fantastic, because I don't think that is valuable feedback. Plus, I'm just an honest person.

When they maximize the Beckett/Castle chemistry the episodes are undeniably better. These past two have been the best of the season. There in lies the magic – whatever pace they choose, I think it is vital to the show's success to continue highlighting their relationship. In a character driven show like this the developing relationships are the key and the novel crimes and unique quirks of their solutions only a vehicle, IMHO.

See I thought he did comment (indirectly) on how she looked at the party, by reiterating his dedication, "You are extraordinary" – I think she took it to mean how she looked as well as everything else. Almost looked like the'd kiss, and then for once, HE spoiled it by talking "shop." But as it's been said, Martha kind of told him he didn't mean much to Beckett.

This was a good episode for building the relationship of castle and beckett, but I had two quibbles:
1) I was left a little confused about the baby swap wrap up. Ok I get the doctor switched the babies. But are we to believe that same doctor then went on to have an affair with the mother of the swapped baby? What in the world? And what cause did the murdered mother have to even suspect the swap happened in the first place, to then begin digging into it? And then would this woman really have an affair with the man who swapped her baby? I can't believe whichever of the adults knew of the swap would subsequently get involved with the other parent. Crazy, and on the doctors part absurdly reckless. I like the idea, and the twists, etc., but it was all wrapped up so neatly that I just think they left real questions.
2) this is personal opinion, but I simply do not think Castle could have resisted kissing Beckett in the final scene before the phone calls. He is hopelessly enamored with this girl (for good reason) and he is staring at her face and thinking its goodbye. At that point you just kiss the girl, regardless of what comes after. Of course that wasn't in the script so the fun continues. No problems with that, but as I watched that part i was just thinking no man on earth wouldn't just kiss her right now.
And I agree with others that this episode rushed a few good parts like the party and the prospect of the 'team' breaking up. Would have been a good plot arc rather than the formula they are in now. I would suspect they didn't want to belabor the whole "spy who must not be named" schtick for more than one week – especially not building an multi-episode arc around it.

The affair story was just a lie to try and throw the detectives off track, it didn't really happen.

Great Episode ! The tease between Beckett and Castle was really well done here (reminded me of the first few seasons of Bones). The plot was average, I didn't like how both couples didn't realise thier sons weren't theirs (a blonde baby in the photo with the victim's family, etc) and the nurse covering for the doctor, although I did like the actor playing the ex-husband – played the role perfectly. Lastly, the music is fantastic as usual

Ok, here's something that I just noticed… what happened to Alexis' friend, Taylor? She doesn't seem to be at the party, at least not anywhere around her friend!

She was in the promotional shots of the party. I think the whole party scene was supposed to be longer but ended up on the cutting room floor.

I just noticed that when Castle announces "Open bar", Beckett has the Russian doll in her hands… she's playing with Castle's dolls so she didn't really mind them being there then…

The comment about the dedication of the book and what he said about her was great, but how can he think of the murder when such a breathtaking woman is right in front you. Can he be that jaded since he has been with so many woman?
Castle other line about 'any man who turned away', and he did not even pay attention to her reaction. We can all see her feelings, but not him.
My theory on about the Castle/Beckett relationship is that Castle is used to having woman throw themselves at him and all he has to do is just stand there. You don't exactly develop relationship skills in that kind of situation. He likes and respects Beckett certainly… you see that little smile that crosses his face when Paula is talking about her and you just know he's a smitten kitten… but I don't think he actually knows how to go about "courting" Beckett for lack of a better term. He was quite easily convinced by his mother that she'd want him out of her life if given the opportunity. With other women, who hang off his every word, he might not believe it… but with Beckett? Absolutely.
So yea, it doesn't surprise me that Castle fumbles the potentially touching moment at the launch party. Every other time he's flirted with her, she's shot him down, so he goes for the case because he wants her respect… he feels he still needs to prove himself to her.
…my 2 cents.

I'm all on board with that! Well put.
Just had a moment on today's re-watch. "What man has ever turned you away?" Beckett just looks like she's thinking You are, right now! Can't believe I didn't pick up on that clever little joke before. Wait… is that irony or coincidence?

wynnara – right on! I was wondering why he didn't use the chance at the book party – but he's a flirt and a joker, and the situation didn't call for jokes. He's managed "you're extraordinary", and used it twice. Now he has to come up with some more lines to convince Beckett he's not so shallow after all.

Admin, well said. I totally agree with you. The car scene was one of the most significant, I think, 'cause it was the most spontaneous one. They didn't see it coming and it was really simple and sincere. If only that woman hadn't shown up… It really looked like Beckett was about to say something special.

IMHO means in my honest opinion.
I think I mentioned the car scene in my earlier post. I was so hoping we'd hear what Beckett was going to say. Too many of their moments alone are interupted it seems.

Admin, after reading your post, I went back and watched that scene again (what torture..lol)…Anyways, I had noticed Beckett's face and the look as if she was about to say something, but I did not notice Castle's face as he looks out the window (but I did this time). A great moment!! That's for bringing that to my attention.

Agree about the car scene. The light on the car window makes it hard to see Castle's face when he turns away, but after a few reruns I saw the change.
But I still like the pre-phone-moment better, when Beckett finally thanks Castle for his help on the case, admitting he's valuable for solving it. Just the affirmation he needed after being told the opposite by his mom. And Beckett's face before and between "Good luck on your new book" and "I know you'll do it proud" – she's smiling, but the smile doesn't reach her eyes. And Castle didn't know what to say. And neither of them wanted to answer their phones… aaawwwwhhh

I like that he has began to see that outside of his narcissistic universe the “real world” is a pretty bleak, unforgiving place. Yet, this extrodinary woman he decided to shadow on a lark has to deal with the most extreme absurdity of life, everyday, and she does it with it with much grace and professionalism. It is nothing short of amazing to him that her actions are purely altruistic in nature.
It is an intoxicating and an exciting mix that he finds irresistible and incomprehensible considering that even his family uses his celebrity to advantage. Alexis’s friend wants to go to the book launch only to meet boys. Martha, miffed at being rejected by him to publicize her play during his party retaliates by telling him that Beckett doesn’t need him. Did Martha mean it, or did she just want to take him down a peg or two, whatever reason he begins to have self doubt. Sure, he thinks he’s been of help to Beckett but he’s never heard it from her –at least not yet.
Beckett might actually be the first person to not be attracted to him for his fame and wealth and that is a notion he still has a problem wrapping his head around.
At first he doesn’t want to believe it, but he begins to see little signs and projects his insecurity of the situation onto them. It was a throwaway line but look at his reaction to Beckett’s comment “no, it’s only Castle” as she turns away to take Esposito's phone call.
At this point he doesn’t seem important to them at all and it’s a sobering thought and wonderfully played by Nathan. It's a short scene but a pretty powerful one. Just like the one where Beckett finally thanks him and tells him that she would not have been able to solve the case without him. Just look at the surprise and delight on his face. It's subtle, but it says it all. If he thought he had conflicted feelings before…
Of course by the end of the story they do continue to work together but with a deeper respect and understanding where the other is coming from. It’s a good start and another solid episode which I like even more on repeated viewings.
