It wasn't just the Mal costume. There were little bits peppered throughout the show. Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed! I swear I caught at least 5 references to the 'verse- maybe I'm seeing more than there really is, but I'm thinking not. What did YOU find?
I posted this one elsewhere already, so we'll start here:

Hey I just wanted to ask while we are on the subject, Did anyone spot the Easter Egg that Nathan Posted on Twitter about?
For some reason I think that his words mean something, but I am not sure. He comes right out and says that the Browncoat is not the Easter Egg, so if it's not the costume, then I think he is leading us to something with his words . He says to find it we must be " clever, astute, acutely aware and cute."
I have 2 theories. I swear I did not see anything in any of the precinct shots that could possibly be it. So I thought long and hard about this. Only 2 places in this show come to mind. And he did say it would make an appearence in this episode, did he not? The first item I am really doubtful about, but it is so prominant, and it's just "there" where it can't be missed. That it makes me wonder. In the scene of the costume shop, when they stop to talk to the "Fangmaster" there is a royal blue dress that just hangs there right out in the open. The dress looks familiar. I wonder if it was one of Inara's dresses? I am most probibly wrong about this. I bet I saw the dress on someone on another tv show and it just stuck in my mind. But I'm tossing it out there as a possibility.
The second place that makes the most sence is Castle's apartment. And this to me is more probible. In the party scene at the end. While people are standing around talking, there is a shot of a "decoration" sitting on a table infront of the window. It's a dome with things inside it. *****SPOILER FOR THE MOVIE SERENITY HERE***********(sorry, to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.)
In the movie SERENITY after Wash and the others have died and they bury them, they show the headstones with the remaining cast standing around them. The tops of the headstones are these strange domes with some sort of hollogram picture of the person inside them. I wonder if this dome was the Easter Egg. It's definately obscure. And again, it's right there with a clear shot of it on camera.
These are just 2 things that jumped out at me. I am most probibly wrong. But today when I rewatched the episode I tried to look at the backgrounds very carefully.

Well as far as references go, Ryan called the halloween party a "Shindig."
As for the Easter egg, I found a couple of things last night that could be it, or not. I'm not sure enough about them to want to post them though, I need to rewatch. But neither of my items are the ones you mentioned.
I don't think Nathan said for sure that we would see it in last night's episode, but…he said don't start looking until this episode. Which makes me think that it could appear in subsequent episodes also, but would not be in any earlier episodes. And also, I think that if it is to show up in subsequent episodes it would be in a location that we get to see often like Castle's loft or the station.
Just my thoughts.

It also occurred to me that in the episode Fool Me Once the crazy cat woman said she killed Fletcher with her mind. Not exactly the same but River said she could kill Jayne with her brain.

Pamela- I checked both of those, and I don't think either are it. That blue dress was not familiar at all, and the glass dome is definitely not from Serenity. I haven't been able to spot it yet either, though.
andrea- I caught that too!! That's #2 then. 
nalissa- Yeah, a few people thought that was the obscure ref from that episode instead of 2x2, Hands of Blue. Weird coincidence if you ask me…
sarah- Hayley Blue is someone featured in Ep. 7 I do believe.
Did anyone get the link between the Zac Eggfron joke and Firefly?

I do believe the Firefly "Easter egg" was a part from ther Serenity ship–it is on the shelf to the right of when Rick comes in the room at the beginning dressed as Captain Tightpants. I think it was from "Out of Gas."

castlefan–that was one of the items that i suspected also. But i think the key is to verify that it was not there in earlier episodes since Nathan said not to start looking for it until this episode. I haven't done that yet so that's why i didn't post it.

Well if you look at the pictures that Castle/Admin took on the set visit there is one of those shelves…and it is all books. So depending on when they filmed this episode in relation to the date of the set visit that could help our theory.
