I liked this episode better on the 2nd viewing. I guess I was too caught up in the moment during the first run to notice extra things. I liked that the physical space of both Castle and Beckett keep getting intermixed…ie. they get in each other's space a lot. The Locksmith was totally hysterical and I hope we see him back in another episode. I was disappointed on first viewing with the Alexis secret. But, by the 2nd viewing, I saw how it worked into the mix of things and why it would have been considered an "explosive" secret, considering Castle's relationship with his daughter–and her possibly going overseas.
The dialogue between Castle and Beckett when he first shows her the compromising photo's of the Reverend which he got from the call girl "at his apartment" made for an extremely interesting relationship conversation. They kind of "talked around" the REAL issue (Beckett and jealousy and why a Call Girl would be going to Castle's apartment in the first place) with Beckett "verbally clipping him" for not having called her immediately and him making excuses for not having done so. That was followed up later with Beckett's comment about her not "dating" the suspect, referencing the Call Girl and Castle. And then a third follow on where Castle thanks her for not saying "I told you so" to her response (paraphrased) that that begins tomorrow. Those jokes linked through several scenes, which was well done by the writers and it added dimension to the Castle-Beckett relationship.
Yeah there was alot of special things for us Caskett or Beckle fans! Stana was completely stunning as always…I only wish there were a word to discribe her stunning doesn't hardly even slightly compare to her. Loved when she was all in his space all the time and when she got protective when he wanted to go. She let him go but made herself his personal shield lol!

…Castle is tweeting about Oxford, supporting my theory that Oxford was the big thing this episode, not France.
"WriteRCastle Researching potential travel options to Oxford in case Alexis goes there. Hope they have invented teleportation by then." "WriteRCastle I should check into investing in jet pack technology. It’s fun AND speedy. At least, that’s how George Jetson made it look."
One of the great things in this forum is just watching your avatars. ashley_slomo: great new one with the back seat! caskett_beckle: love the Spirit! (it's oedipal complex, by the way)
It's getting too long if I'm to sum up all I loved about this episode. But I do it anyway…
Lots of great dialogue:
A body fall down from the sky and somehow it's my fault?
murder and indicent exposure – don't suppose he tried to kill him in his… yeah, that wouldn't work.
Really, that's your deNiro?
Who won? Let me guess… not you.
My great great grandmother wore them over on the Mayflower.
Why are you so worried, Castle? I thought you were the cool dad. -I am!
That would be prying. Cool dads don't do that. They go behind their daughter's back and they beg Beckett to tell them.
Come on Castle, keep up!
Why would he become a pimp? -The outfits.
And put you out of your misery?!?
It's hard out there for a pimp… who is also a DA.
I have the novelty-mug to prove it.
Thank you for not saying I told you so. -Oh, that starts tomorrow.
Chuckles:
Ryan in t-shirt… is he the only one who got the message about casual Friday? Haven't seen them without shirt and tie before as far as I remember.
Castle hurting his fingers on the file's rubber band. Mr. Clumsy. Then getting hit in the bar fight. He's so the anti-hero.
The usuals:
Movie of the week: Cape Fear
I'm not his girlfriend. (Didn't seem angry about being called his girlfriend, though. Just a neutral statement that she's not.)
"One Tree Hill" alumni of the week (Scarlett) = immediate suspect!!!
Great scenes:
Castle being sent to the back seat. Great, just great! We all agree. Then coming up between the front seats with hand-cuffs on. They must have been real quiet in the back, cause Beckett hadn't caught on what they were doing back there. "You know, I'm not even gonna ask." -she's really getting used to Castle's antics by now.
When Castle don't want to press charges: Don't tell me you have a soft spot for this guy. He's a wordsmith. Okay, fine. … I hope the two of you are very happy together.
Ryan and Esposito ribbing Castle: -Kicked out of school -Drugs -Teen pregnancy -People are never who you think they are. Not as perfect as you think?
When they interview Scarlett the second time: Castle tells Scarlett that she has to help yourself – Beckett smiles, she likes that part Castle tells Scarlett that Beckett will make sure noone knows it was her who told – Beckett does not like that. She's ready to throw Scarlett into jail… then getting roped into being a softy by Castle… she should have stood her ground here (hindsight is 20/20 vision…)
When Castle shows the photograph of the reverend, "You know, to surprise you. Like… like I do?" (great play of uncertainty by Nathan) and up until "it wasn't a date" "really!" (Beckett sooo jealous)
Everything with Jessup C: And I fell for it. B: We all did. J: I didn't.
B: Castle you're staying here. C: No, I'm not. –pause– B: Okey, but stay behind me. -strong scene, that one!
Favourite background music: In the scene when Scarlett confesses to killing Knox: The background music is the same as in episode 1x10 when Castle first tells Beckett that she's extraordinary. And it's been used other times too. Just love the flow of that music. Didn't even hear it before I used head-phones one day when reviewing that scene in the 1x10 episode for the n'th time.
Loooove:
When Castle come with his theories, Beckett really pays attention, it's like she's drawn in, the look on her face when they start spinning a story together… the stare, the smile, she's loving it!

Not one of my favorite episodes, but still a good one I think. Things I loved:
-Castle not understanding Beckett's behavior toward Jessup.
-Return of the "Writer" vest. I grin every time I see it. :)
-Like Admin said, Beckett telling someone else besides Castle to stay in the car.
-Jessup's character as a whole. "Sorry man, didn't mean to embarrass you in front of your girlfriend."
-Seeing even more of Castle's nurturing side. I think it's because he's the father of a teenage girl that he's so quick to jump to the defense of a woman that looks like she needs help. Love that about him.
-Also loved how Castle gently pushed Scarlett away when she kissed him. I don't mean that I'm glad he put a stop to her advances, but that he did so in a way that wouldn't upset her more. Alnother look at his caring side.
-The way that Castle and Beckett got closer and closer as they started to put the missing pieces together. They seem to be doing that more and more, and every time they do it, they get even closer. If one of them had sneezed, they would have bumped heads. There really couldn't have been more than four inches between them.
-The twist of Scarlett being the one behind it all. I'm not sure if I would have gotten that had I been in a quieter environment (my parents talking constantly was just a LITTLE distracting), however, my mom did guess it right when they stormed in the room to save Scarlett.
Um… That's all I can think of at the moment. :)

musiclover said:I liked this episode my fave parts when Jessup taught Castle how to unlock himself the end scene w/Alexis and Castle. I was kinda dissapointed that Beckett and Alexis didnt get an on screen moment *too much wishful thinking I guess* I figured it was the call girl who killed the lawyer when the episode was almost over. All in all it was a good episode.
The call girl (Scarlett) didn't kill the lawyer, Knox did. But if Knox was arrested, the call girl ring and Scarlett's role in it would probably be exposed, so she killed Knox in a very sneaky set-up, so she could continue the business as the new Danton.
…unless you think she was able to fight the lawyer and throw him off the roof (which according to Castle required a lot of upper body strength, they were thinking "thrown", not "pushed") and both Castle and Beckett being wrong with their last theory. It could happen.

My spelling and grammar is all over the place since I'm not a native English speaker, grew up learning British English in school, American English on TV and in the movies, and has spent three years in the US. But I did learn something about a greek tragedy (goat song ep. 1x03) about a guy (Oedipus) who killed his father and married his mother (he didn't know they were his parents at the time), which Freud translated into a Oedipus comlex or Oedipal complex: a sons love for his mother and jealousy of his father. Or something like that.

One of the things (that hasn't been mentioned already) that i loved about this episode was near the beginning. Montgomery telling how the Mayor wanted this solved quick, and then looking at Castle and Beckett right away. you can tell that when he needs something done, they are who he comes to. That little scene gave so much info about the way he views the Beckett/Castle team as his aces in the hole…

Castle was back this week! It was a great episode. As always, loved the interaction between C & B.
The one critisism I have with how they're moving the relationship forward is that for a few episodes, the tension had built to a degree where you kept expecting more to happen. Again, I know why they haven't but it seems almost too toned down compared to say, Vampire Weekend. I feel as though there is really a fine line on this show b/c of the way it has been set up. At least from my personal perspective, they have set it up so that it isn't a matter of if C & B eventually get together, but rather when. Because that is the approach they took, I honestly don't think that it can be drug out as much or as long as you could in another show. Again, it is a fine line. You don't want them there too soon, but the whole "Bones" thing? Not going to work here.
I feel like a broken record, but Stana gives so much away in her expressions. I think it adds such an element to Beckett that another actress may not be able to get across as well.
I have to say, when Castle was comforting the call girl, it was so sweet. You hate seeing a great person taken advantage of, but it was sexy. That sounds totally odd given the context, but it was! lol
The wanna-be locksmith was hilarious. I was quite pleased with this episode overall!

If they bring Jessup back, at some point he has to say "does that seem right to you?" 'cause I kept expecting him to say that like the bounty hunter in the final ep of Firefly – the character had a simliar feel in addition to the actor having a similar sounding voice (at least to my non-US ears)

A little bit, lol. I think that was the whole idea of the scene, they were gonna kiss but got interrupted :P
Terri said it best in chat: Oh, that was Castle and Beckett sharing a surprise moment of attraction, being so into the case they didn’t realize how close they were… getting that hit you get from someone you have chemistry with and then being CAUGHT by Ryan and Esposito.
Anyway, my 2 cents about the episode: the awesome stuff has been said already, lol. But yeah, very good episode, although my mom ruined the end and solved it out loud before it was over. Damn! Either way, nice twist at the end. Loved Jessup, it was really nice to see someone on Castle's level for once I'll give it a B+. Doesn't top my favorite of the season ("Fool Me Once"), but still pretty good.
Can I just take a second to shake my fist at the misleading promo they aired right before the episode started? Those sneaky people over at ABC are just trying to stir up trouble…
They tacked on a few extra seconds that weren't in the promo that we've all seen from last week. Anyway, made it seem like Beckett was going to walk in on Castle kissing what's-her-face, and flashed to Kate saying "This is not over". Now KB did say that, but no drama! Oh well, it's not a soap, lmao. ("Tastes like soap. I like it!")
Next week's looks REALLY good, too. They just keep getting better and better.

When they were going to "save" the Call Girl and Beckett said "Wait here" and Castle stood up to her and said he was coming too and the look in his eyes… And then Beckett gave in… I turned to my husband and said "That's new." It was a great moment of showing how much more Beckett trusts him and how much Castle cares about people.
I think for me this was one of the more interesting and stand-out moments in the episode. Castle began the series as the playboy character who evidently didn't care about a whole lot about anything–at least on the surface–and I think for that reason Beckett didn't have much respect for him in the beginning. 'Course the truth is he cares a great deal and we've seen him be pretty damn fierce when they do finally nail down the bad guy.
Whenever Castle shows he cares about the plight of these victims it really hits home for Beckett and gives them that much more of a connection… even with their different approaches to looking at cases, it's really the thing that they have in common.

THANK YOU!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who heard this. In the car scene when he says, "Can you believe that?" (about the locksmith school not admitting him because he's a felon) all I could hear was Jubal Early.

A woman named Nancy Gail wrote a review of this episode and I find this paragraph as most interesting:
Speaking of guest stars, whoever puts the cast together for an episode needs to be aware of something. The killer is pretty easy to spot each week. How? The actor portraying him or her is listed FIRST on the guest star list. Whoops! I realize sometimes this is the person most well known out of all the guests for a particular episode. Still, surely a small shuffle should not be out of the question.

Hmm that's interesting. I would have never known that. I wonder if it is listed as she says. Either way I don't agree with them being easy to 'spot,' in terms of watching the episode. And to add, not many have a look at the next episodes cast list as it is. But it's an interesting point she brought up. Thanks for posting that.
