I get the ratings numbers from http://tvbythenumbers.com

I don't actually know how involved Andrew Marlowe is, but I'd imagine he'd have approval over the final product.  But I'm thinking of how Joss Whedon works . . . he has his team of writers, but approves everything every step of the way and rewrites things here and there.  That's the only instance where I've heard about how tv writing works, so that's all I have to go by, ha ha.

Humor and levity are what separate Castle from the other procedurals out there, so it seems like they'd want to keep at that.  There were some fun moments in this episode though. I loved Kate grabbing Castle's ear when he was trying to listen in on her phone call. And his cell phone using that Bach music and he says "I hear dead people" . . . Kiss  (I also laughed pretty hard at Alexis, but I'm not sure that was intentional on the writer's part.)

Did anyone else notice a lack of details present in the first two episodes that wasn’t there last night? What happened to our writer with rock star status? He told no tall tales, he filled in no gaps. We didn’t see him writing, struggling with the “business,” or him even gettingout his lap top.   Not to mention, there were no calls to the mayor or him skipping to the front of the line. I missed Castle, the blockbuster. Last night he was just some guy on a ride-along, there to help solve a crime.  Is he quitting it all and headed to the police academy?  I missed the guy who visits crime scenes for inspiration and sees murder as an opportunity for copy. Anyone else feeling the loss?

I'm not sure he wasn't more serious/less opportunistic in this episode because the deaths of the kids were hitting close to home because of his daughter.  We got to see 'Castle, the parent', who surprisingly raised a responsible, mature child.  NF is awesome…I, too, push this show on everyone.

I'm concerned about what the audience is thinking too.  Why did this episode get lower raitings? 9.8, down from 11.4 last week (but those end up being adjusted down later?) Wondering if other viewers are thinking along those same lines that you pointed out, or thinking the show is too serious?  But most of the chatter I've seen online, people like the 2nd and 3rd episodes better than the pilot. And apparently people considered Rick to be a bit of  an insensitive jerk in the pilot (and I prefered him that way, not sure what that says about me!Cool)

I can tell you why the numbers from previous weeks dropped a little: those initial numbers include the last few minutes of Dancing With the Stars that squeezes into the 10:00 hour. So some of the initial audience doesn't really belong to Castle. (This info is somewhere on the Tv By the Numbers site, btw.)

I don't know for sure how the numbers work, but wouldn't the drop from last week to this week be more indicative of people who weren't as intrigued by the second episode, and so didn't tune back in this week?

Do you think they pay attention to how many people go to their website to watch the show? I'm sure ABC exec's look at those numbers. I believe more and more people are watching TV shows on their computers.

I'm told they do consider the "record to watch later" numbers as well as the "watch on the website" numbers, but those usually get added into the total later than "watch live on TV" numbers since they aren't activities that happen immediately. Though I expect they don't wait indefinitely for those numbers. I'm guessing the final numbers posted (as opposed to the overnight numbers)  are the "official" ones they look at.

Also, I'm wondering, if he's so famous how come nobody says anything?  Is it too much to ask that a murder suspect see him and say “OMG, Rick Castle?! Sign my chest!”  . . . or something. haha

That's what I've been wanting. I want more people swooning over Castle. I also kind of wish they did more with the fact that Beckett owns all of his books, and knows them reasonably well. Like a joke here and there about it. You'd think Castle would kind of hold her to it.

I agree with others in saying I missed the humor, but it was still really entertaining for me. Maybe it was more entertaining for me because I'm just getting done with going to a private high school, and I find depictions of it really humorous. Because it's really not just rich snooty people. Well, there ARE rich snooty people who go to my school, but not all of them. I also had a "I relate with you!" moment with Alexis, because that's definitely how I'd act. I feel guilty/stressed about everything.

Not as good as episodes one and two, but still nice. I really am liking the progression of the relationship between Castle and Beckett. It never feels forced; it feels very much like a natural progression of them getting used to each other; it greatly reminds me of the progression of the relationship of Mulder and Scully on The X-Files.

"Hedge Fund Homeboys" is on right now, and the scene where Beckett and Castle go talk to the drug dealer (Scoville) again is one of my favourites. The guy's lawyer–Yankman–is just sleazy, but damn hilarious, and their exchange implies that they have some history. I couldn't help but think that it would be nice to see him pop up again, Beckett's obvious distaste towards him is just fabulous, and he seems like the type of guy who would take every opportunity to hit on her/ask her out/try to prove that he's the king turd of poop island. That little scene is quite deliciuos, I would really like to see them do some more with that particular character and his 'relationship' (I don't mean romantic, just in general, she would never give the sleazeball a second look) with Beckett.

Of course, I forgot that Canada is airing the repeats on Fridays instead of Saturdays like the US.

Hope lot sof people are watching Episode 3 on ABC tonight!  Someone will have to report and let us know if they advertise the Heat Wave book!  I know it's unlikely they will this early, it's a few more weeks before the first chapter will be online, but I hope they do all the same.

Yep, Friday nights on CTV in Canada smile

And yes, I look forward to hearing about the advertising for the Heat Wave book, I don't know if we'll be seeing it over here. Come to think of it, I'm a tad worried that I won't be able to actually read the online bits because of the ridiculous regional restrictions. That would be very frustrating.

I won't lie, I'm not sure I'll buy it until I know I like it. I'm on a very tight budget (being a student sucks) and I visit the library religiously but hesitate to buy a book unless I know I'll read it more than once.

at least you'll be able to work out whether or not you like it by reading the first half online!

This is true! And I can always request that the library order it… which might not be a bad thing, since then more people might read it and tune in to the show, leading to higher ratings and another renewal. Hmmm. Maybe we should all 'request' the book at out local libraries? Just an idea for future 'save Castle' campaigns smile
