I like that the reveiwer sees potential there. Witty drama is right up my alley! When they announce an air date for the pilot, we should start a countdown :0)
And, umm…does anyone else find it mildly amusing that Castle is wearing a brown coat?
(I haven't read all the old posts yet. If someone has made that comment already, I apologize for the redundancy)

Oh yes! I'd mentioned it to my friends "He's wearing a brown coat! Well, ok, it's more of a brown jacket, but still!" I don't think they cared. ha ha

I got a chance to see the pilot and I can't wait for the series. I don't watch much network TV, but I'm going to have to make an exception for this one–it's one of the best shows I've seen. Nathan Fillion does that "bad boy charm" incredibly well…

Cool! How did you get to see the pilot? Inquiring minds want to know…:0)
Is there any kind of charm (good guy OR bad guy) that Nathan CAN'T do???

There was a survey system that people are signed up to trial things – and one of those things was apparently the pilot for Castle – but not everybody signed up for that survey thing got to see the pilot. At least I assume that's where BigSis saw it – I know that others got to see it that way.
BigSis – please feel free to discuss the pilot in more detail – this section of the forums allows spoilers – I'd love to know what you thought.

Well, I think the mystery plot kind of takes back stage to the personal interactions, and it’s hard to capture those in a written description. I liked the relationship Castle has with his daughter, and I liked the interplay between Castle and Beckett. His mom is funny as well. It was just a lot of fun to watch.
The basic mystery is someone is killing people and posing them as victims from Castle’s “lesser works.†They get the crazy person obsessed with Castle, but Castle is convinced there’s more to the story. He also realizes that the obsessive wouldn’t have gotten some of the minor details of the victim poses wrong. He thinks the obsessive has been set up. Although he’s been told to leave the case alone, he can’t. Even when they have the real murderer cornered, he can’t quite give up being a writer–he’s still after the story behind the motive.

Do you think it's realistic that Castle's connections with the Mayor puts him in a position to be able to call in major favors – like becoming involved in the police dept. on a long term basis so he can research the character for his new novel?
I've seen a lot of people criticize the series saying well, why would an author be helping the police solve crimes every week. The piolt explains this by his connections with the mayor – but is it realistic enough?
Personally I don't care, entertainment is supposed to stretch the truth a little – if it didn't it woudln't be very entertaining after all.
I love the interaction between Castle and Beckett. I think there's a lot of room for the whole love-hate relationship thing to develop. I loved the show Moonlighting and the way the two characters loved-hated eachother and from what I saw in the promo and read in the pilot script, the dynamic is going to work really well here.
I think we're going to see that while Castle is a bit of a low-lilfe on the outside (in terms of how he reacts to women) on the inside we're going to see a much deeper character who's really a good guy. He's got a good relationship with his daughter, he's taken his mother into his house – he's got to be a good guy and I'm looking forward to seeing how the surface & underneath personas work out.
From reading the script it was hard to judge how well the humour was going to come across, but having seen the teaser on youtube I think that Nathan Fillion is going to really out-do himself with this one. He really has what it takes to pull it off and I can't wait to see more.
Jan 7th people! Mark your diaries!

I don't know enough about city politics to know if it's totally realistic. But from what I've seen go on with city officials in my small town, I'd say I'm prepared to believe just about anything. I'd imagine different systems have different levels of corruption.
Of course, I don't care if it's realistic, as long as it's fun.

And if anyone is curious as to how long the wait is, right down to the second, click this link:
http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/customcounter.html?month=3&day=9&year=2009&hour=21&min=0&sec=0&p0=39
It's set to my time zone, but one can always make their own count down. It's too bad it can't be embedded in another site or signature or something, I don't know of a website that does that.
I meant to ask this before . . . you mentioned reading the script? It wouldn't happen to be posted online anywhere, would it? Or do you just have connections? (If so, that's cool, I wouldn't ask you to betray a confidence.)

Patterson is the gentleman with dark hair and glasses. His Alex Cross books, actually all of his books, are very entertaining. I usually read his stuff cover-to-cover.

Looks like ABC renamed this one Flowers For Your Grave:
http://www.abcmedianet.com/web…..=022309_02
The poker scene wasn't in the version of the pilot I saw. Looks like King wasn't available for it ;) Also, I see they list Judge Markaway as a character, and he wasn't in the pilot either–Beckett simply calls him. So it looks like a couple of scenes have been added. It'll be interesting to compare.

So… did everyone see it? What were your thoughts?
I've seen a lot of discussion around the web which is a great thing, most of it very positive and for the rest, most of them are at least hopeful that they'll grow to like it more as the eps continue.
If you missed the ep when it was on, you can watch online vai the ABC full episode player, you can read the recap or you can watch it again when it airs again on ABC on Sat 14th March 10/9c

Way back when in my much younger days, I was part of an Explorer Post (older Boy Scouts group for boys and girls), and the County Sherrif was our Post Leader. He arranged for many of us to do "ride-alongs" with the department…there were forms to fill out and rules to follow, but we got to be right there in the car, high speed chases, drunken idiots and all. It's perfectly possible and happens more frequently than most folks realize. I have no problem believing a high profile writer can arrange matters to his liking even without the mayor. The character comes across as a a 'player' who is used to manipulating things to get his way, or working around things or people that get in his way. All done with a smile and with good intent, but he knows people, and he knows people! As for realistically having someone help solve crimes…in this day of budget cuts and rampant crime, why wouldn't a police department welcome competent free help? Also in my experience, I've been contacted by police friends when a case falls into my realm of hobbies…granted, I'm not helping solve crimes, just helping identify ways and means for them to proceed in places they have little familiarity with. It doesn't happen often, but would anyone turn them down? Not help the police? Not help lower the crime rate for their town? Not do whatever it takes to keep their town in the good press? That mayor should be laughing all the way to the promotional bank…

I loved it. I thought that a few of the scenes sounded a little wooden, but by the end, the chemistry between Stana and Nathan felt really convincing. And way to go Mom! I loved Molly Quinn, too. I'm going to give it another viewing on Saturday to see how I feel the second time around.

I liked it a lot. I've watched it twice -once when it aired with friends and family and once at the ABC site before I made up my mind about what I thought. I love the the interplay between the characters, especially Castle and his daughter. I liked when he was taking with whipped cream shots and went, "Baby bird" and she tells hims she already brushed. And you can tell the mother is going to bring some trouble into the house at some point. I also like the tension between Beckett and Castle. And I can't wait to find out what inspired Beckett to become a police officer. It's a different spin on a cop show, more light hearted and funny. I was very entertained and am excited to see what happens next week.
The only bad thing was that I had already seen quite a bit of the episode on the net and in various interviews. And even with that I watched it two times and enjoyed it each time. But I like surprises so I won't be peeking at episode 2 spoilers.
