Has this been posted yet? http://latimesblogs.latimes.co…..from-.html

Just in case it might be helpful for those who are going. I've never been there so I can't say if these tips work. Oh, how I wish…

They're pretty good. But I prefer Mark Evanier's.  My tips would be:

  • Bring enough cash.  The ATM machines will have lines just like everything else.
  • There are water coolers in the back of the presentation rooms. Use them. Better yet, refill that freebie you got at the Castle panel. :)
  • Use the comic-con website. Seriously. It's your best resource for everything, like the shuttle schedules.
  • When setting a meeting place, be incredibly specific. You have no idea how much area "under the giant inflatable Pikachu" covers. Think of this like Disneyland in July in half the space with twice the people.
  • Do not weep for the missed panels.
  • You will miss panels. Twelve-track programming is like that. Just treat the interwebz, youtube, and twitter as if they were your DVR for these events. Between AICN, thefutoncritic, and Heidi McDonald, damn near everything you wanted to see will be covered.
  • Always always always have a sharpie and an autograph book or camera on you. You never know who you're going to bump into (once, I was hanging out at a CBLDF party, and Joss Whedon showed up.)
  • There's a bag check. If you're overloaded on shwag, it's probably worthwhile to use it.
  • There's daycare, handicapped services, and damn near every service you can think of. Avail yourself of them.
  • There's free wi-fi. (I'm posting from the hall right now, having picked up my badge, and waiting for friends to check into their hotel and do teh same).
  • Elevate your feet for 20 minutes when you're back in the hotel room–it'll keep 'em from exploding the following day. In extreme cases, pack a ziplock gallon baggie and an ace bandage. Hotels always have ice and towels.
  • There's a single Ralph's downtown within walking distance. the lines will be long, but it's worthwhile if you're on a budget.
  • Take 10 minutes each day to go out back and leave the hall and recover from the sensory overload. This is what the Pacific Ocean is there for. :)
  • If you've never been before… go to the Masquerade. It's not a dance/ball. It's a costume competition.
  • Make friends with the people next to you in line. You're going to be together for a long time. :)

Oh. And v.1.5.1 of the Comic-con iPhone app is seriously hosed. DO NOT LOAD IT. If you, like me, cannot upgrade to iOS4, we're just SOL. (sigh). And it was such a nice app to have last year.

For people who aren't picking up their tickets Sunday morning, what time are you getting in line for the Castle panel?

Becklers do it with the beckle on.

Our people are good at hanging strong in line. (Remember Paley?) I expect they won't disappoint.

I would suggest, go a day earlier. Ask people in line for an event how long they've been there. Or ask around the floor. So you'd know how early you have to be there. Don't sleep overnight in line, please!

Terri Miller tweeted last night that tickets to the VIP autograph session, limited to 100 people, will be given out inside the water bottles that are being given away.  That's an interesting way to do it, at least it means that people who are dedicated enough to go to the panel will get a shot at an autograph.   When I saw "Daisies", there was not enough time to get from the panel room to the autograph line before they closed it, so people were out of luck on the autographs.

I think anyone who gets a water bottle with a ticket in it is going to be singing "I've got a golden ticket" a la Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, lol.

I'm super excited to be able to go! I hope everyone who's already there is having loads of fun and warming the place up for me! I can't wait to meet all y'all who weren't at the filming tour on Saturday, and to see those of you who were there again. I'll do my best to remember my vest.

Admin – is there a specific time/place you want to meet up in the morning? I'm planning on leaving around 4 or so to drive down, which depending on traffic should put me in the area around 7am. Also, is there a phone number I can reach you at on Sunday morning?  I'll most likely be wearing my Hufflepuff costume (from Harry Potter, I'll be all decked out in black and yellow) so you know what to look out for.

I'm planning on getting in line at 6am.

And I love them putting the tickets in the water bottles, makes it seem more fair for some reason. Random and all.

Just wanted to note that v1.5.2 of the iPhone app now works, but if 1.5 was working for you, don't upgrade–the update wipes out your favorites.

And 6am/7am sounds right if you want to be sitting up front, close to the panel. If you just want into the room, though, being an hour or two ahead of the start time, say between 9, would probably work.

You guys had to line up for Paleyfest? Is this NYC? 'Cause in LA, we just got tickets in advance for the events. Then again, the last one I went to was Pushing Daisies (y'know, the one you can purchase and watch in the comfort of your own home :)).

Oh, I didn't know the Pushing Daisies one was avail for purchase!  I was there too, that was a great night.

We lined up for Castle at Paley because it wasn't part of the true "Paleyfest" schedule and it was held at the Paley Center, not the dome, or whatever bigger venue they used for the full Fest dates.  There was a group of us there about 12 hours early, just to ensure good seats, even though that theater is super tiny. What can ya say, we're super dedicated, lol, and we had a lot of fun in line on the street in Beverly Hills, chatting and people watching.  I do remember lining up for PD at the Dome too, but only 2-3 hours early.

Does anyone know what time the place opens where we can pick up our passes for Sunday?  We have to do that before we can get in line for the panel.

Is this Comic-Con?  Fans debate "mainstream" panels.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBI…..tml?hpt=C2

Thought this was an interesting article on cnn.com about how Comic Con traditionalists aren't so happy with "mainstream" panels with tv shows and movies.  I obviously like the fact that they include tv shows because the only reason I've gone before was to see "Pushing Daisies" twice and now Castle, but I can definitely see their point because the tv/movie panels really monopolize the halls.  Since they don't clear the rooms after panels, the hardcore fans stake out seats and sit there all day if need be, taking up seats for panels that other people really want to see.  And I'll admit, if Castle was going to be there at 5pm, I'd probably be in that seat first thing in the morning and never leave.

After Comic-Con this year, they're supposed to announce where it might move to starting in 2013, it's between the LA Convention Center and apparently the Anaheim Convention Center which is right by my house.  Would be interesting to have that madness in Anaheim after seeing the way it completely takes over downtown San Diego.

According to someone who posted earlier you'll probably still get into the panel if you get into the Castle line by 9am, but who knows. I hope everyone gets into it, lol.

For those who still need to pick up their pass on Sunday, what time are you going? I know the line is already going to be crazy because of the Glee panel at 1:00 so the Gleeks will be out in full force. I just want to see Castle…I am getting anxious-worried.

RayRay, I'm in the same boat as you are.  I am going to try and be in line to pick up my passes by 6am if not sooner.  I know it doesn't open until 8:30 but I want to try my hardest to make it over to the Castle panel.

Don't worry too much about glee = they're in a different room so there's no real competing as far as that's concerned.

Based on the past couple of mornings I'd recommend if you want a half decent seat be there before 7, if you want a good seat be there around 6.

I got a glimpse of the room last night and it's pretty big. That being said, earlier is better. I was trying to get into a penl in a room half the size (Riff Trax [or MST3k, however you want to look at it], VERY POPULAR!) and I got there at 6pm (right after we checked in) and no dice. The panel started at 7pm. We were 20 people away from getting in.

For those who aren't at the Con, like me, I know the people over at StanaTalkRadio are doing a show Sunday night and one of the ladies will have gone to the panel and will be talking all about it. I plan to listen to that. Here is the link to their page : http://www.blogtalkradio.com/s…..atalkradio
