Haven't read the whole thread but here's my two cents. If your stay involves anything around visiting the studio, then a hotel by the beach shouldn't be your choice. Something closer to Hollywood would be it. If you're looking after your budget I suggest you either call Farmers Daughters, across from the Farmers Market, a very popular location in L.A. You can also try the Beverly Motor Hotel, on Beverly Blvd. – which is also nearby and a very hip rock musician hotel (not noisy, however). Are you planning to visit the show on location? That why you're coming in July? If so, or in any case, if you need a driver, I know my way around here, so for whatever I can be useful, either as physical driver or as backup directions resource, please feel free to let me know.

Also, for everyone else, don't book a hotel near LAX. I would go as far as saying not on Venice or Marina either. Marina does have a freeway that gets there, but Santa Monica or nearby is a better bet. From SM you can go visit Marina and Venice, no problem. And you're equidistant from Malibu as well. In SM, I would suggest hotels south of the 1 fwy (south of Colorado/Olympic). There's a bunch on Ocean which should be your standard big, probably cheap hotels like the Loews and the Viceroy. With the 1 fwy you have easy access to downtown, Hollywood, even the Valley. 

I wouldn't go for the beach myself, though. Better to stay somewhere more central. Ideally, near Farmers Market/The Grove area (Fairfax and 3rd st. on your Google maps) I wouldn't discard Culver City as second choice. It's right under Beverly Hills, near the 405 fwy. and I bet it has cheap hotels (it's where Sony studios are – the old MGM lot) plus it has a new vibrant downtown area with free wi-fi access. 

There's a lot of new hotels downtown as well, both near the Staples and in the recuperated areas, and it is always worth checking the Hollywood and Highland Renaissance to see if there are any bargains. Same with the Roosevelt Hotel, which is historical, across from the Chinese Theatre. 

North of the Renaissance, on your Google maps, there are a few budget hotels, all relatively the same, worth checking out. Like the Best Western Hollywood Plaza and others. Other than that, another good budget hotel is the Best Western Hollywood Hills, on Franklin. Just north of Hollywood. 

My first choices would be Farmers Daughters and Beverly Laurel Hotel (I previously posted Beverly Motor – my bad) These are cheap, are centrally located. And a little funky. 

Other more pricey choices, not so great choices? Sofitel Hotel, across the Beverly Center. Elan hotel, also on Beverly Blvd. The Crowne Plaza and the Residence Inn, both at the southern edge of Beverly Hills, probably the cheapest you'll find in that area.

thanks Rojas for your valuable input. I wouldn't necessarily rule out LAX though, I've stayed in a few hotels there and they've been great and super convenient for the airport. Only one place there I had a problem with.

You're right. Super convenient for the airport is one thing LAX hotels are. And I didn't mean to say they're bad hotels. They're for businessmen and lay-over tourists. They're quite alright, but is way, way off the beaten path for anything except Playa del Rey. And as the man himself would say, offer still stands.

Hey guys!

I would like to come to your fan gathering, but I can't get there before Saturday afternoon, so it sounds like I'll miss most of the fun stuff.  Do you have plans for Sat. PM and Sunday?  Could someone fill me in?

Also, have any decisions been made in regards to hotels? Are you all staying together at the same place, or is it everyone for themselves?

How many peeps are staying all week and going to ComicCon?

Fiction – I'm hoping that we'll be able to go see Seamus in King Lear on either Saturday night or Sunday – will be able to confirm closer to the date of the cast scheduling.  Changes are good though because even though Castle will have just resumed filming Seamus may still be doing the play on Sat night/Sun matinee.

Had a thought about maybe renting a passenger van for the location tour – looked up some prices online but it may be a bit on the high end – something like $25pp for a 12 seater – which woudlnt' be big enough anyway.

 

Does anyone with any connections or good resources want to look into options for that?  Seems like it would be much easier than taking a bunch of cars

Thanks for the update. I wish I could take Friday off, but I'm stuck at work. The earliest flight I can get arrives in LA at 1:00 Saturday afternoon. If you guys are still on the locations tour then, maybe you could tweet me where you are, and I can meet up with you all? I'll have a rented car. And hopefully a GPS… ;)
