Thanks, Darrin! ;)
While I have the ability to go because of my location, I'm starting to get a little worried that I don't have the means. Sigh. A drive from my hometown is about 6 or 7 hours and relatively doable, but from school that turns into about 12…I finally get my financial aid refund, but I kind of need that to help pay the rent. Going to have to make a Castle fund! Oh, and there's the whole issue of the job. Oy! Guess we'll have to see.

I would really love to know who wrote it. I would love to give the original author credit, I love it and cant wait until the book is released.

Luna, thanks for bringing me up to date and explaining so well. I finally also read the other thread about Heat Wave (should have done that first!) so now I get it. Seems like the ABC Publicity Dept. is maybe behind the book. Had a crazy idea – wouldn't it be fun/interesting if they filmed the "signing" and showed it during an episode? By any stretch of the imagination could that be the idea behind it – like the attendees would be "extras" on the show? I'm not saying that's the case – I have no idea – but it might be why they're having an actual signing by a man who's not an author but an actor playing an author. Food for thought – and something to dream about.

I was actually thinking that too, it would make sense in a way because they'd have fans already there. I don't know, though, would they need consent forms from everyone, and would it just slow down the actual signing process if they did that?

That thought crossed my mind but I don't think they'd be able to do it, in part because the signing doesn't fit with the filming schedule (they've already filmed the book release – I think that was going to be in the first ep wasn't it?) Also, the legal issues would probably be hard to work out and also you have the issue of Nathan Fillion vs Rick Castle.
That said, it would be fun.

Like I said, it was just a thought (fun one, though, huh?). Yes, they'd need either consent forms or at the very least a notice up outside the event saying that if you enter you give consent to be photographed, your name and likeness used, etc. – that happens in crowd scenes sometimes. Or they'd have to advertise it that way. I was looking at the Barnes and Noble site just to see if they mentioned anything – but they didn't. Seemed like a golden opportunity for the show to do a signing and incorporate it. Otherwise, it's just, to me, such a weird concept. There have been books written by tv shows in the past where the main character is the show's character, but I can't ever recall the actor doing a signing in character! What about the people who don't know the show and show up because they think he's a new author they've missed hearing about? Guess that creates great buzz for the show, though. Re: the release show already being done, sometimes authors do signings months after the release of the book, so it's possible they'd slip it in at a later date. Oh well…even though I live within minutes of The Grove I'm not sure I can go so I won't be one to find out, that's for sure. So if anyone goes, I'm sure we'll all want a full report!

No problem, DM. I was (wishfully) thinking that too, but I hit the road block of the legality issue, too. Maybe they can do that for the NEXT book ;)

You know, Nathan did tweet that he may have "apples of large size in the near future" and asked about the weather in New York. Dated 8/25/2009 @ 11am.
Nathan on Twitter
Maybe he will be travelling to the East Coast for signing???

I know that the filming schedule has a small break right now. I'm not sure how long it will be though.

The tv show has taken a break, or the film? If it's the tv show, maybe they have enough done to see whether they'll be picked up for a full season? Which I certainly hope they will be!

The filming schedule. They've been going non stop since July 15th so it's only fair to give them a little break. They have the five episodes already filmed.

Ah, September is such an awesome month when shows come back. On the other hand… there's school.

Ugh, I know right? I just finished spring and summer sessions so I've had a little break, but it just doesn't measure up to the four months I could have had. At least it's my *last* year…

You know, if you're looking for a fun course to take in your last year you should check out cmput 250. It's a games course but it's interdisciplinary where you actually have to apply to get into the course but get to work in teams of four to create a short video game using Neverwinter Nights. You can look around here for more information. I'm in the same research lab as one of the ta's.
