I'd been planning an apology, although his not wanting to accept her apology was because of the joke. (Like he said, he didn't deserve it.) The birthday was the result of the fact that Castle's birthday is on April Fools, so it belonged there. (Plus it made it more entertaining.) I've no idea how much of that chapter I'll be using later. I actually wasn't quite done with the flashbacks.
Musiclover, It is wrong and that is exactly why it was so difficult to write. I struggled with it all week long! Like he said in season 1, he's a smartas* not a jackas*. Under those circumstances, he'd never pull that on Beckett, and she'd never stand for it if he did. All that hard-earned trust–out the door!
My husband kept bringing the idea up, saying I should make it a fake test, and I told him, "My readers would kill me!" (Besides, I didn't want to.) But when he hit on the spin where the joke is actually on the readers, I thought it might be doable.
Hopefully, everyone took it with a sense of humor.

I loved it! After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I laughed it off! Very clever!
But I will say one thing- I hope I am never on the receiving end of any sort of prank that you and Admin decide to plan! hahahaha
