At this point this show has one really good character Castle who's only getting better. All the others characters/actor create zero excitment. There is no sense of an ensemble in which each character contributes something to the mystery, the energy, and the conflict. Perhaps this comes from having the pilot created by a writer who is best know for novels that have exactly these same problems–a sexy but earnest hero and a supporting casts of human sponges.
If Castle wants to be on the air next year they have to pull some new rabbits out of the hat. Right Now!!
Here's some possiblities:
A computer geek from his daughter's high school begins stalking her. He's a 21st century male version of the shy librarian from the 1950's.
Mother goes on a long cruise as a singer… ie. off of the show. She contributes nothing.
The cops who work under Beckett get personalities, agendas, and backstory!!
Beckett falls in love with a newspaper reporter. Drives our boy a little crazy.
And a new female is brought in from the FEDs and drives him even crazier. Her backstory right out of "weird tales."
… but other people out there must also have a few ideas on how to keep Nate Fallion from once again being cut just because the show's writers aren't nearly as good as he is.

I am not sure what show you are watching. It can not be CASTLE. I believe this writing team has nailed it every week! They have the perfect balance of wit, murder and mayhem! The Beckett character's story is still evolving but her interactions with Castle are pure heat! They are perfect for each other if only each would admit it! THis is not your other shows! It is not CSI or NCIS. It is Castle–a show that does not take itself too seriously. I love it for it's touching scenes with Castle and Beckett and Castle's family. His Mom is hysterical! I really think you are trying to compare this show too much to the cookie cutter type crime shows that frankly, I am sick of on TV right now!

I think you've got some terrific ideas for future shows. For the moment I'm simply delighted with everything, but I can see that you are looking forward toward the future story arc. I'd love little side trips into the lives of all the characters.

A. The writing is smart and lively and witty as is.
B. Why the hell should it go to Fox when it was Fox that didn't renew Firefly — a terrific Nathan Fillion/Joss Whedon series — some years back.
I just finished watching Firefly, and actually liked it. I agree, since Nathan Fillion got another season of this awesome show called Castle on ABC, I think it should stay here. Plus, like what most people said, it's composed of charming characters and this show does not take itself seriously.
By putting it on a different network would just make this series, well, a generic "cop" show.

What happened? I love this show and so do my 30 year old married children, why is it not on? Is it being cut?? I hope not, everytime I really, really like a show it is cut!!! And I amm not the only one who feels this why—-why do they leave on the trash, mindless shows and cut the good ones! RNC<RDMS

to be honest, HBO would be a much better choice than FOX.
Fox marketing is terrible!
HBO would have been a terrible choice! But mostly because I don't get that channel hehe. If it wasn't for Castle, I was going to sell my tv cause I don't watch anything else really. I only found Castle by a freak accident and I'm glad I did!
