You read it wrong – not the only one, I think a few people did, I did a double-taken when I saw it but Nathan was actually reposting something someone said to him…. not talking about himself

I did see it on Twitter, but then I saw a reply on his MySpace from someone that said congrats to his engagement….

I think a lot of people have probably misunderstood, but if you look at his twitter post, and click on the name it contains, you’ll see someone else posted the original message.
I have a feeling that now this is started, it's a rumour that's going to be around for a long time.

Considering he felt the need to post:
Guys. Chillax. That was a retweet. Someone else's tweet reposted. Someone else got engaged. (Ironically, @idiotradar) A RE-TWEET.
It may stick around for a while. I think it's pretty sad that he felt the need to post a clarification. I still can't believe how quickly people react to something without reading, or more accurately comprehending what they're reading. It really shouldn't surprise me, but it still does… and will continue to drive me nuts.

I feel sorry for the poor guy, I bet he's had hundreds of "congratulations" posts because people misunderstood him.

WOW akajb…little harsh don't you think?? It's not that people don't understand or comprehend what they read, its that they misunderstood that it was re-tweet….and not a tweet from Nathan. So the misunderstaning stems more from not comprehending what they are reading, but from not totally understanding the whole twitter/re-tweet thing.

Sorry, I just see this same sort of thing again and again – on forums/message boards, comments, articles, etc. And this time I just snapped.
You’re right this time, most people didn’t realize it was a re-tweet. However, most times it’s people reading something too fast, or skimming, and then immediately making a judgment on it and they don’t actually understand what they read.
ETA – I don't think I was too harsh. It does sum up my feelings on the subject quite well.

I don't know if akajb was too harsh, since anyone who is on twitter should be familar with how tweets look: there's the tweet from your account, which has no @(your name here), there's the RT which has an RT and the name of the person you are retweeting, and there is the reply, which has the @(name of the person you are replying to).
That said, I had to look twice at it, and realized it was a RT. Just without the requisite "RT" in front of it.
People who saw that and started in on the "He's engaged!" thing jumped to that conclusion without taking a minute to comprehend it. And I imagine that can be annoying. (and considering what they were assuming, probably a LITTLE uncomfortable for Fillion, fielding all those "congratulations on the engagement" type tweets. I mean, imagine! He is seeing someone, and a TON of people just jumped to the conclusion that he had popped the question to her. Ack!

Unfortunately, that kind of reaction is just the kind of thing that makes celebrities shy about using social networking, I hope Nathan doesn't take it too hard, though I wouldn't blame him if he did.

Hopefully not, its sweet that he does share so much of himself with us and it would be such a shame if he felt he had to either pull back or not pass on congrats if he wants to. I will admit my first reaction was "huh!" but then I re-read it and had a bit of a chuckle. Fancy getting a personal congrats from Nathan on your engagement 
That would be super shiny.

I was surprised when he did the re-tweet because I got what he said the first round. Sometimes my friends flip how they retweet things and he was one of them but it still made sense to me. Then when he retweeted I was like 'wow I never even guess that.' But I can see how it could be read wrong. I just didnt notice it the first time around.

Oh- Nathan had worse stuff happen to him in the past unfortunately. He has been engaged before so this isn't new to him at all. I seriously doubt he is going to lose any sleep over this.
I think it is amusing how many people care if he gets engaged or not. I keep checking his tweets for any hints at a Dr. Horrible #2!

Hm, this is the first time I've seen this. I know when I post it says something about moderators, but I believe my posts show up right away visible to everyone. Are new posters first posts guarded until they've been checked and then the poster gets added to some sort of "safe" list that lets them post unguarded?
