Some good news as ratings – particuarly in the 18-49 range – improved for Castle this week.

Castle received a special mention in the figures by tvbythenumbers.com who have previously been negative about Castle's renewal chances.

ABC won the night, as Castle, following directly after Dancing with the Stars surged to its best 18-49 rating (2.8) in weeks. I’ve been down on the show’s renewal chances, as you’d have to be after last week’s 2.1, but I think last night may have just saved it.

Sorry, no Univision numbers as yet, and no more analysis right now, I’m off to a meeting.

(Note from Seidman:  Bill accidentally left One Tree Hill off the list below.  It had exactly the same demo numbers as Gossip Girl and 2.227 million viewers).

Previous Monday overnight reports are available for comparison.

Interesting to see that Castle really does appear to be affected by whatever is shown before it, which really makes you wonder what the ratings would be like if it was in an earlier time slot!

I say get rid of Surviving Surburbia.  That show totally sucks and has dragged the ratings down.  Castle will get another season.

I agree that an earlier time slot will be even better.

I agree, Surviving Suburbia is probably bringing Castle down. We turn the TV off at our house for the half hour between Dancing With the Stars and Castle because SS is just that lame (and who wants to give them more ratings?)

The problem here too, is that Castle doesn't come on until 11pm. That's a little late considering that a lot of people have to be up for school/work, and during the school year I routinely get up at 6:00-6:30am. I'm used to getting very little sleep (I usually got to bed around 1-2am) but other people might not think a TV show is worth the sacrifice.

I think the show would be more successful if it was on earlier, and yes, directly after DWTS as it was this past week.

From TV By The Numbers

Castle’s chances at renewal, which improved significantly after its outing on Monday, just got a lot better with the news that ABC is removing Surviving Suburbia from the lineup and putting Castle right after Dancing with the Stars. On the other hand, the survival chances of Suburbia just took a hit. Maybe not a fatal one, but it’s certainly not good news.

And there was much rejoicing wink

Which leads me to wonder what we are going to talk about once it is an established hit in no danger of cancellation… Laugh

(I guess we could always discuss the merits of leather kilts Wink)

I think that leather kilts will inspire conversation for many a day!

I'm just so happy that the insipid show that was Surviving Suburbia will no longer interfere with Castle. Hallelujah!

ABC totally threw Bob Sagat under the bus to save Castle!  \\o/   Laugh

I wonder how much of the ratings increase had to do with the preview of Grey's Anatomy that they showed.  And will those people stick around for next week?

Bob Saget's show deserved a bus toss.  It was lame, idiotic and the usual crap that stays on ABC.  If they bring that show back for a re-tool I will throw up.  Castle will sizzle with a new night and time.  Even if they keep the 10:00 time slot, Friday night or Saturday night would work too, so people do not have to get up early the next day.  When it repeated on the weekend for the first 2 or 3 episodes, I thought it was a weekend show until I went to DVR it, and saw it down twice.  When they dumped the repeat and put it on Monday night I was only DVR'ing it due to the late time.  However, I couldn't stand to wait until Tuesday to see what happened so I stay up late and grin and bear it the next day!  Teaching elementary kids half asleep is not a great proposition but I will do it for Castle!  RENEW!  RENEW!  RENEW!  (If you say it three times it will be so…..)
