I've been wondering about it today and I think I need some explanation, or theories, or speculation, whatever.

If you remember, back in season 1, episode 7 "Home Is Where The Heart Stops" Castle invited Beckett to the charity party. We were to Kate's appartment watching her trying to find a dress for the evening and Lanie being her advisor on the subject. And it seemed like all Beckett's dresses were wrong, as she eventually wore the dress Castle sent her.

Now, several months later, the miraculous change has happened and for the book party in episode 5 Beckett appeared in Herve Leger dress. In the promo pics for The Third Man episode, Beckett is also wearing really great red dress. I would like to know how this miraculous change has happened and who is "responsible" for it. If it's Lanie, then I'd like to see one or two scenes now and then of them discussing clothes or even perhaps visiting shops with dresses after hours…

before castle it would appear that she never really had a reason to get all dressed up, and the charity event was last minute so i wasn't shocked at all that she didn't have anything to wear.

I love that blue dress too, not so fussed on the pink one she wore to the book reading, I just didn't think it suited her.

As for the red dress to the black tie affiar, it was gorgeous but not something most of us would have in our wardrobe. I know I sure don't Innocent

Even though the rest of her clothes are nice they aren't quite in that area. I don't really like that one shouldered red one either, I like the colour but not the style. The blue one was the best in my opinion.

I agree with MereBelle, I think that now she has a reason to dress up because of Castle. And before her job was just being a detective, now with Castle aboard, there are more Book releases etc. that she attends to, that she wouldn't have without him. Giving her a reason to dress up.

And I think the blue dress was the best color for her.

And as a side note, I think this would be a great dress for Lanie

I love the blue dress the most. It was unexpected for her to come in something like that, because like you said in season one she didn't have much of anything. But her style has changed a lot since last season and since she met Castle. I love all her clothes on the show.

I love her blue dress as well. It's funny that I never really thought about these gorgeous dresses Beckett was magically whipping out of her seemingly lacking closet. She DOES have a lot of clothes now that I think about it. She changes a few times every episode. Goodness!Tongue

Perhaps it is just me, but I enjoy the fact that Beckett has so many clothes. I just assume clothing is her vice. And I relate to that.

Ok, because i'm obsessive, and it attracted my attention – i went back and counted the number of coats/jackets she's worn this season. It's an average of four per show, sometimes five and comes to (at least) 24 so far. I say at least because some of the leather bomber jackets are hard to distinquish from one another – all great but difficult to separate. The most frequently worn coat is the green leather trenchcoat that must make her rather unusual coloured eyes even more vibrant.

I'm in total lust with that green leather trench coat! So classy, yet modern.

It would be kind of interesting to have some sort of back story on her clothes, because I don't know how much NYC detectives make, but I would guess it's under $100k. That ain't a lot living alone in NYC. Therefore, it seems kind of unlikely that she would have $1,100 for a Herve Leger dress – family money? Eh it's all part of the fantasy and doesn't really matter in the end, but I'm just an annoying Virgo with a writing degree. LOL

I think it's pretty safe to assume no real female detective would be wearing the type of clothing Stana does on the series.  If you even discount the gazillion jackets and dresses/blouses, I can guarantee NO FEMALE who may have to chase down perps is wearing Stana's heels!!!!  I think we just have to assume the producers want a "glamorized" version of female detectives and not the real thing here.

no way would she wear those heels, she'd end up with a broken ankle and I would imagine not be able to run very fast in them. As for clothes I'd still not say she has a lot but more than before. Kate's a mix and match girl so it looks like she has a lot more clothes. Maybe Rick has bought a few for her? What she has is good stuff so I'd say she'd be quite annoyed if they were destroyed

What Beckett never seems to run out of are scarves — long, long scarves! I love her general look when she's on work-mode. The stylist/s always add these little touches of color, more like blooms than pops, which I find totally in keeping with Beckett's character. And that blue dress…yowza! By far the best one yet, even if completely out of Beckett's budget as a government employee. I thought the beaded red dress Castle got for Beckett was…well…glamorous but fairy-tale-ish, the kind of dress a literary man like Castle would give as fairy god-father (which is partly why I think the line "Bibbity bobbity boo" worked so well). Plus, I thought it made her look thick. The other dresses were in-character, in the sense that they were, I thought, generic, and in that sense, easy for Beckett to buy/have. The pink dress, not a Beckett color. The red one-shoulder dress, didn't show off Stana's body so well, and finally…what she wore to Keira's wedding…horrible, not to mention the strange pouf-y hair. Nope, Beckett with her forever-legs and her lean body are best paired with well-tailored pieces like that blue cocktail dress and yes, that infamous red billiards dress! Hope the Castle stylists keep going with that! Love2 Oh, and can I just say, I love Alexis' style. Her accessories are so young and fun without being flashy and/or trendy. How I envy redheads, and all the unusual hues and shades they can pull off!

i just assumed until now that the blue dress she wore was also a gift from castle? i guess not…

i agree that the pink one was not the best… but it did the job, didn't it? it derailed poor castle pretty good lol

as for her wardrobe, i think lanie is helping her out in that department. and now that what little she has left in her apartment is smoke/fire damaged, i'm sure she is going to use her insurance payout to change up her wardrobe again.

i tried going back and looking for those heels specifically but it was hard to tell. i would hazard a guess at no though, she was going pretty fast after that guy.

Don't know if Stana was wearing those heels in the chase scene, but I have had one thought concerning her character wearing those heels in general.  Stana is 5' 9" and Nathan is 6' 1" or so, perhaps they have Stana using heels to help out with the height differential for the camera.  That is, it is probably easier to get both Nathan AND Stana in the same camera shot when they are closer to the same height, without them having to make adjustments (like standing on boxes or shooting from a greater distance).

Just a thought I had.  The height differential could be of no consequence at all in them keeping DETECTIVE Beckett in heels?!?!?!

Okay, I know I've been hearing this before, and I really wanna get to the bottom of this. Therefore, I took a couple screencaps from the episode on Hulu to see what is the real deal.

Beckett in the van before the chase. She is clearly wearing heels.

But here, it looks like she's not wearing a heel. I brought up the brightness so it would be easier to see.

After watching the van scene through the chase scene, it didn't look like Beckett had enough time to change her shoes. Based on this, I'm inclined to believe Stana wore sneakers or something just for the chase scene to make it easier. Thoughts?

As an actor, I feel like you’re asked to live life as vibrantly as possible.

It's really hard to tell whether she's wearing heels in the chase scene or not… they filmed it this way, so we can't see her feet almost at all, but it seems to me in the second pic that there are no heels there. So it's quite possible that Stana wore flat shoes just for the chase scene to make it easier.

I agree on this, but I found this link educational on running with high heels:

Quoting myself from the post 218 topic:

And now for something completely different: running in heels. I don't use high heels myself, so even walking looks very difficult to me. And I'm thinking those must be some very very strong shoes to take that kind of not intended abuse. But over on abc.com I found the thread, post and link (thanks TheOldPI) that give me a whole new perspective on heels: see the video at http://shoeminx.com/kelly-ripa…..-pedicure/ Shock

I wish I knew how to quit you.

Wow! This video definitely puts the whole new perspective on running in high heels… seems like it's not that difficult at all if you practise it.

I also find it really hard to tell in the pictures too. But I've ran in heels before (4"), and it's not overly difficult. You just run on the balls of your feet. Although, I'm used to wearing heels and they don't bother me. For my prom last year, I wore 4" heels from 12 noon until 1:30 in the morning. The only time I was sitting was during the speeches, in the limo, etc. Given, I've never had to chase a serial killer and jump a turnstile wearing them, but from experience running isn't impossible. And I'd say that Stana is used to wearing heels anyway (ie. public appearances, award shows, etc.), so it's probally not a huge stretch. I've noticed that in some other scenes throughout the show it's obvious that she's running in heels. However, for the chase scene in 2x18, I think she might have had on flatter shoes. I don't have a screen cap, but did anyone notice what she had on her feet when she jumped the turn stall? I'd think it'd be kinda dangerous, though … I mean, if her heel caught on the bar, or she stumbeled running down that stairs… that would not be good!!!

Jordan: He cares about you, Kate. You may not see it. You may not be ready to. But he does.

♥ ♥ ♥

Kate: Of course he makes you feel alive but eventually you know he's just going to let you down. So, why risk it?

Castle: Because the heart wants what the heart wants.

haha yer i don't wear heels that much unless im going out somewhere but i agree that it would be a little dangerous for her to be running full speed down two flights of stairs as well as jumping a turn stall. but does that really matter anyways?? she still looks amazing.
