*sigh* it's a no-go. I PMed Admin about it early this month, but got no response. I have not the slightest idea what's going on. I'm tempted to make another account on another computer and see what happens, but I don't want to cause more problems with the forum's capacity.

Did I not respond to you? sorry about that, I do try and respond to everything but sometimes I miss things. It may be related to some issues we're having that I'm still trying to get fixed, ever since the forum upgrade things got a bit weird and the software creates are working on helping me fix it but it just takes a while getting messages back forth with them because we're both busy.

K, just saw the .gif avvie tutorial, and it was great! Made perfect sense to me. Unfortunately, I don't have the pro version (or maybe it's just Quicktime X) so I can't be doing any trimming, and I tried Super and failed miserably, lol. Plus my Quicktime hates me in general and likes to freeze on me for hours at a time. Will have to try again tomorrow when I don't have the urge to throw my PC around Crazy2

UST = Unresolved Sexual Tension :P

Yeah, unfortunately I found out that Quicktime X is only for Macs at this point, not sure if Apple will release it for PCs but I hope they do because it's really great. That's how I can record my screen/audio, through the "New Screen Recording…" function in QTX.

Hm, well, if you have specific clips in mind, I have no problem clipping them down and sending them to ya! ;) It's really easy! Then all you have to do is import them into Photoshop/Imageready and you're all set to start iconing :P

Thanks, ashley. I'm gonna try again today, see if I was doing something wrong in the first place. And it's possible I have a few programs of my own that'll convert clips to .mov, so I might try that too. Though don't be surprised if I come crawling back at my wit's end begging you to convert some clips for me, lol.

Dunno if you've seen my video tutorial (here), but it's not all that different for PCs.

The only part that is different is how you get the clips you want to make icons from.

Because Quicktime X is not available for PCs (yet), you'll need other software to get clips. I was never able to find good PC software to do this; everything I tried took FOREVER to encode and it just gave me a headache. Instead, I downloaded clips off of YouTube.

I used the methods described in my video: either the DownloadHelper add-on for Firefox or using the "bookmarklet" from the Google blog. Either way, I'd get the MP4 off of YouTube, then converted it to an MOV using Super, although there are plenty of other converters that may be better for you. 

Super is a bit technical, so it may not be the best one for the average user.

Either way, once you get your MOV (or as GreenyJess discovered, an MPEG works too), import it into ImageReady (or Photoshop–if you're using CS3 or newer) and follow my tutorial.

It's hard to write this kind of thing out (or at least, I'm not very good at it), so let me know if this wasn't enough help ;)

Luna: good luck! lol yeah, I'm sure you have something better than Super, it's just what I had and it worked for me. Haha, well if you crawl back I'll be more than willing to help you Laugh

Luna, I've been having to (like Ashley said) use YouTube videos and convert them with an FLV converter.  I use one called Riva and it will convert to multiple formats, but I've had to best luck with converting to .mpg files.  Or sometimes I'll even find someone on LiveJournal who made some .gif files.  Those are even easier!

HaHA!  It's all coming back to me now… sort of.  I had completely forgotten about Hue/Saturation.  Oh, what a difference it makes!  Now I want to go back and touch up some previous icons… might do, might do.

Alright, have NO idea what the hell possessed me to even try…

But I decided to see if I could make a FTB smiley. I'm not a Browncoat or anything (not that it's a bad thing, mind you, I've just never seen Firefly), but it's a cool saying.

Anyway, basically traced a frame from last week's ep when Castle & Esposito FTB'd and this is what I got… the whole process took about 20 minutes.

I'm absolutely terrible at drawing hands, and I drew this with the trackpad on my Macbook, no tablets. Not that I have one anyway, lol.

Whipped this up real quick in Photoshop. I used the pencil tool for the outlines, painted under the hands with the brush tool and then merged the two. Put in a white background and added FTB text so it doesn't look like a wildly horrific animal attack or something. 

I'm not ecstatic about how it came out, but I've never done anything like it before so I thought I'd give it a go.
