After a very brief, yet intense, chat session very early on Feb.6/10, it appears there is an interest in trying to do a cross stitch of 'something' Castle related. By the time I logged off the chat, I had a few good ideas, had visited a few sites in looking at converting logo or picture into a graph to stitch from. In the real AM coffee:, I've had a fellow canine cross stitcher recommend some software she loves and had good results with. I did put one piece into a converter online, guess size to be say 8 by 10 and it spit out about 25 colours needed and over 60 thousand little x's. EEK! LOL. Methinks I'll be uh, smallening my piece to try. Happy to post pics of what I'm going to do as it moves along. I know it was suggested that a March 8 end date for completion, however, unless you are sitting all day or can dedicate X hours a day, a month and a bit for a decent size piece won't work with that deadline for me. If the other chatters last night want to add their thoughts, project ideas etc, go ahead and use this thread. I have no idea what to do with the completed piece(hope it doesn't end up like the wedding piece!) but its a good challenge to take me into spring and keep mind off snow, cold and the long Canadian winter.

So what software did you end up going with? I've looked at a few sites today to see what I might want to do and could realistically do within a time frame. I'm not entirely sure yet. I'm hoping a trip to the needlepoint store or the craft store will bring some inspiration.

I'm thinking about incorporating a badge into it somehow, just so I can use some shiny gold threads, lol.

Great idea about the badge, you certainly could use some of those great threads that are all shiny and glittery! The one suggested to me was PC Pro Stitch 9. Even if there is a trial copy, it would work for me.
I'm just doing a bit of light reading on blk aida cloth vs white/off white/ivory. Likely most of the piece I want to do will be darker colours but I'm not sure how good white DMC thread looks on black cloth. Hope to find a few examples online about that before I purchase and start. I think that unless you are doing a simple little 'somthing', like a decoration ball as an example, the timeline for pieces should be flexible. Like I said in chat last night, my personal deadline? -when Castle and Beckett cross the line(and she doesn't FREAK OUT about it! LOL).
Walking into a needlepoint store is like me walking into Chapters(Canadian version of Barnes and Noble)-you might not hear from me for days!bounce:

Oh my gosh! I'm in THE longest craft store line ever!! No idea what is going on, but I have a coupon that expires today and I finally found the stand that goes with my stupid heavy frame the my current cat project is on.

My craft store has almost every color fabric, but I was kind of thinking a charcoal color might be better than black. My next stop is Needlepoints Ltd, the specialty store, I'm hoping they can offer some suggestions to guide me, I don't usually come up with my own ideas, I generally do project kits, but I'm in the mood to try something new while I have the free time to do it.

Dude! How did I manage to delete my post, I swear it was there.

Anyway, I went to Needlepoints Ltd today, the needlework specialty shop and I forgot just how much stuff they have. If there is a kind of thread, silk or other stitching material, they have it. And they have thousands of books, some are old and out of print. Also, lots of beads and charms too, if anyone is looking for anything special, let me know and they can probably hook you up.

I went there specifically to see if they might have any samples or info on stitching patterns from photos and she said that she has used the PC program and it's okay, but sometimes it requires some tweaking of the stitches and it tends to either give you too many colors or not enough colors. I tried downloading it today and the download wouldn't start for some reason, I've never had that happen before so I'll give it another shot. I've got some ideas percolating and I want to see what they would look like in that program.

I haven't had time yet to download the program but I'm glad you asked some questions. I read someplace that your pic should be resized down before plugging it in and then you decide how big you want the piece.

Great to hear! I'm not buying it so I have to hand copy it all onto some graph paper to work from. Completion date…likely at the start of Season 3 smile LOL Sitting all day looking at the pretty colours doesn't make them jump onto the cloth I've found bounce:

OK well after I figured out how to get a pattern off a software program I didn't purchase(the trial one only let you create, not save or print)COUGH, I've finally started!

Coming along, I've gotten distracted the last few evenings with Canada's Olympic pushwink The one corner was a boring as watching paint dry to start as its like solid black forever! LOL Usually you start these pieces in the center and work out but I decided I'd try from a corner this time.

Got a little hand cramped yesterday watching the Gold Metal hockey round, between the tense game play and the tension I use on the material(I decided against a hoop)…ouchie! smile' class='wp-smiley' />

Yay, you're off to a good start. I still have to tweak the picture I wanted to use. After playing with the program and getting an idea of how it translated into a pattern, I can see that I need to remove the background and maybe replace some colors because the center of the design was too dark. I downloaded photoshop for better picture clean up, I just haven't done it yet because I also started a small scrapbook project, also involving Castle, but it's not going to take me that long to finish that one.
