Is there really an importance of 22 becoming 24? I know of the regular 13 with a back 9 option or so, but is there any official standing in such a move as adding two extra episodes?

Very good news. I was just starting to feel bad that we'd already had 8 episodes (right — I'm not sure right now, I'm so excited) and were working our way too quickly through the season. This is a vote of confidence from ABC, to be sure!

It means they are confident they'll get good ratings out of Castle, so instead of pushing a new show or using production dollars on one of the other shows, they moved the dollars to Castle. So it shows a lot of confidence and bodes really well for a 4th season. And reality is their other shows are not doing so hot, so they need to go with a show that is doing well since they've guaranteed advertisors a certain amount of ratings. Theoretically they can move someone who bought time on say Detroit 187 to Castle and not have to give the advertisor money back because Detroit 187 didn't deliver ratings promised….

It is very good news.
