OfflineHello peeps,
just became aware of an ABC poll of the ABC studios Advisory Panel. (I was reading the ABC boards and they mentioned it.) They are asking members of this group about how they would like the Esposito-Lanie relationship to go (different options to choose from), how they would like Caskett to develop from now on (again different options) and about possibilities of ending the JB murder case.

This is very interesting. I do not know much about the behind-the-scenes strategies that go on about the development of tv shows. So, I also don't know what to make of them asking this ABC Advisory Panel for feedback. Who are the members of this panel? Is ABC trying to gauge how the public would react to the different developmental paths the story aspects could follow? Is this part of the renewal negotiations for season 5? This leaves me with more questions than answers and I won't be the only one here. So, let's discuss this.

OfflineFrom the ABC fan board I got this link from someone who posted it there. You can apply to become a member of this ABC board.

Maybe some of you already are. I'd never heard of it, so in case you're interested you can try and join.

OfflineIf you're trying to become a member..they will ask you about the tv shows you watch on ABC. Careful, they are not all on ABC (tricky, tricky).

OfflineIt's odd the question what you would to if they didn't get romantically involved has only three answers, all positive or neutral. I think the answer I hope everyone gives, that continuing to delay their relationship will mean I'll stop watching eventually was missed in the making of the article as all other questions have four answers.

Dutchie…got you're back on that one.

OfflineHmmm… I tried to register there, but they won't let me, indicating that they are not interested in my target group at the moment. Very sweet and polite way to say " go to to hell", ABC, thank you.
Maybe it's because I'm not the resident of the US and therefore they are not interested in my opinion. Well, I could only hope that the majority of relevant viewers share my point of view and express it, and it will have some influence on the storyline…

I was able to successfully join and did the survey. I saw that odd question choice, too, and actually commented on it in the comment section. In a very nice polite way, I said, "Don't screw with the loyal viewers." I was very polite.
I also in a couple of the comment section pointed out how much I like the way Andrew Marlowe is telling Castle and Beckett's story with the hope that it would be allowed to play out naturally according to his plan and not artificial constraints. I said I would like to see them together by the end of this season. It wasn't one of the choices so I wrote it in the comments.

I would bet that's exactly why they wouldn't let you join. Hope I was able to express most of what you would have. I said the relationship between Castle and Beckett was a big part of why I watched it and I would not be happy if they didn't get together or if it dragged out more than the end of this season or the very beginning of next season. I pointed out that I was not happy with how "Bones" finally got their DD together. Too much of nothing and then a pregnancy without even seeing them kiss or acknowledge their feeling for each other before they were in an "old married couple"-type relationship. I love the courtship part of the story. I don't want ABC to force AM to cheat us out of that in any way.
Hm, on the Lanie-Esposito relationship I said either together or apart is fine as long as they are still having their peppery back-and-forth.

that is also more or less what I said. I think I said I would prefer the characters to develop organically into a romantic relationship that any further hurdles would appear artificial and reduce the creativity of the writing…something to that effect.

OfflineThank you, PrettyFloralBonnet, that's indeed excactly what I was going to express as well. I'm a bit worried now as to what the appearance of such a poll would mean for the show and if they are really capable to influence the well-planned (I'm pretty sure of it) storyline that Andrew Marlowe has in mind. I would hate to see that happen, as I realize that Nathan's fears and concerns are quite real, as some part of the audience, indeed, don't want them to get together. Well, let's hope that the absolute majority of ABC board members are hardcore shippers and will vote accordingly…
As for Lanie and Esposito — I'm with you on that as well. As their romance wasn't given enough screentime for the viewers to really invest in their relationship, we don't actually care that much, I guess. Whatever.

OfflineArt by the numbers…. ick…
This whole concept of mucking around with a finely-tuned piece of art based on a poorly worded questionnaire is enough to make me want to throw something.
Keep the bean counters out of my favorite story!

The way some of the questions were worded bothered me. The show gets pretty decent ratings, has a target audience that's really quite faithful, and it's obvious that ABC feels no need to put out extra money to hype it in order to get new viewers. What makes the show work is the writing/direction of the story. Why screw with that?!
Over the past year or so I have drifted from primarily watching CBS and FOX to ABC, because I am just not a sitcom fan and ABC seems to be the only network still willing to produce new hour long dramas. Unfortunately, they're also the network that pulls them right away (FlashForward, Off the Map, Combat Hospital) before they even get a chance to catch on. Looks like they will do that with PanAm, too and I've actually really enjoyed that one.
I wonder how much they want to put their finger in Castle's pie.

There was seriously no other choice to answer that question other then 'I'll keep watching the same or even more' ? That's pretty terrible. I'm sure AM will pull this survey out later to explain why even at the end of season 8 they're not together: Everybody Wanted It Like This !
