OfflineIt seems to me that maybe the channel itself or TPTB of the show haven't put much effort into all this getting-nominated biz. I guess if you want to play this game you have to know which buttons to push to get attention of those who make decisions and can promote you, etc. I remember reading in one of the interviews that ABC wasn't really that interested in getting nominations for its shows like Castle, and maybe that was the reason the show has never been seriously promoted for all these awards. Anyway, I'm neither surprised nor dissappointed. I know I love the show regardless all the awards and I know it's awesome, even if the big TV-academics totally snub it. It's their loss, not ours. This doesn't make sense to me and I'm shocked! It can affect the show, as the nomination(s) puts a spot light on the show/cast/crew and hopefully bring in more viewers, thereby giving it a chance to live on for more years. You know how it is with television programming. Nothing but crap reality shows (not a fan of reality, sorry) seem to make it for any length of time and sometimes the best of shows get pulled, seemingly for no legitimate reason.

OfflineIt does suck that our show doesn't get the recognition we all know it deserves, but I'm sure TPTB are very happy with US and they know as long as WE are happy, we'll keep watching, which means the ratings will cotinue to either gp up or stay consistent. And that's a good thing!!
And Fillcat, I couldn't agree more about reality shows. I HATE them! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Reality, Game, Soap shows all, make me run screaming into the other room, if I can't get to the channel changer quick enough. But espcially reality shows. There is absofreakinglutely NOTHING about reality shows that is real! It's all overemphasized and most often prescribed drama.
I get enough reality, just living my own life and watching those closest to me live theirs. Why on earth would I want to watch some stranger marry a stranger? Or why some mentally challenged person hoards, or why housewives pulling each others hair out is interesting. It is beyond my comprehension how/why these shows have lived for so long.
They all got started when the writers strike went on for so long a few years back and the broadcasting/cable companies realized how much money they could make off paying average citizens next to nothing and putting them in front of a camera to do what they do best….be an idiot.

I think @TerriEdda said some time ago, that the channels are really not into promoting shows which are successful in ratings for Emmys. I think it's a huge mistake, personally. And I'm extremely disappointed with no nomination especially for Stana. She truly deserves it much more than anybody else.

I think it's because they're much cheaper than producing a legitimate primetime show with actual TRAINED ACTORS!!. I think that's what makes me so angry about them….they put hardworking, or potentially hardworking, actors out of a job. And for what? I don't watch any reality shows. Unless you include Paula Deen and Guy Fieri on the Food Network. LOL

Well, as I'm not American and I don't watch much TV even in my country, I've little idea about reality shows, that's why I can't say that I hate them, though from what I've heard these seem rather cheesy and shallow, and it's a pity they are so popular and can even affect the fate of quality television products. It's a shame, really.
As for the awards and nominations — maybe I'm not surpized nor dissapointed because I've sort of get used to the thought that real talent and real quality may have been snubbed and neglected for years by film industry authorities, so it doesn't really surpise me that such a good and clever show may not even be on the awards-dealing radar. For many years I've been following a career of one extremely talented actor who has never actually been nominated and awarded (well, he's been nominated a couple of times but has never won anything in his life) though for almost 30 years in profession he's played in a whole bunch of really good films and has always performed with incredible depth and nuance, yet nobody from the "awards business" ever seemed to notice or pay any attention. And when last year he finally got nominated and this year he's finally got his Oscar, it still seemed so long overdue. And all these critics and journalists were like "oh, it's so well-deserved, because we've all known all these years that he's do good and talented", and I just thought, "Oh really? REALLY? So where you've been all these years with all your praise and recognition? You've hardly noticed the man!" So I've got used to the fact that real talent and superb acting may well be underrated and snubbed by official "awards" for a long, long time. But in a long distance it may be finally noticed and rewarded, after all. So if Castle continues to be such a fine quality show, it will sooner or later get its recognition, as it'll eventually become too big not to get noticed anymore. So if audience continues to support the show and provide for its high ratings, and if its creators, cast and crew continue to do as wonderful a job as they've done so far, I'm pretty sure awards will follow. OfflineCarrie, HI
You are absolutely correct and it's too easy to get carried away with opinions/thoughts here and not always take into consideration that not everyone here, is from the US of A. – thus having different television awareness/experiences.
The oversight of so many talented artists out there is a common reality, and it always shocks me. It doesn't make much sense, so I've assumed from that, there are unknown factors playing a role that precludes these artists from getting the recognition they deserve. I also believe there are also political (not government) issues that can affect nominations as well, such as Barbara Streisand. She has done a whold body of good work, that is often overlooked and has hardly ever been recognized by award committies. But the fans like her, support her and have kept her in high esteem and popularity.
I just really get frustrated when good shows are pulled and the comment is always….well we didn't have the numbers to continue keeping it in our lineup, so we had to move on. While Castle does faily well in the numbers game here, it isn't consistant, nor does it always stay in the top 10 or 20, which is, part of, what TV Executives seem to keep a keen eye on, when it comes to axing programs. Considering it was competing against a couple other popular programs in the same time slot, and continues to get renewed is testimate to the fans, and the shows great writing/acting talent. I just want to keep it there.

Oh yes, I completely undrestand and share your concern, yet I'm trying to be optimistic here. The season finale was epic and it's been some buzz about it in American TV-press, as far as I heard, so it'll possibly raise some interest in thoise who haven't seen the show yet. Plus, the show is being repeated during the summer months on some other channels. So I hope this will help to catch up a certain amount of new viewers and by September the audience of Castle will somewhat encrease. Now, everything will depend on how captivating the beginning of Season 4 will be, will the creators of the show be able to keep both new and old viewers hooked. After reading twits from Molly and Tamala (about episode 1 giving goose bumps and being "beyond epic") I try to keep my hopes high. I do believe in AWM and his cast and crew, I believe that they'll be able to hold the level they've already reached and maybe even exeed it in future.

The mindless trend towards reality "fake" shows, and really bad comedy, are why my family cancelled tv. No cable, satellite, nada. Now we watch Castle on the ABC site, and everything else we watch through SideReel or Netflix. I'm sure those shows are entertaining to some, but I don't want mindless entertainment. I watch a show to be transported into an imaginary world, the way I read good literature. When it comes to reality, even the news in mostly fake now, so the way it is going, people in my demographics are not seeing the advertising from those sources. Sooner or later, advertisers that are looking to my demo. will have to woo us back.
And, since I don't watch the Emmy's either, I don't care what the bleep they do. If they ever create a catagory for really good shows like this one, I'll go watch at a friends house. I still don't understand how the sound editing in Knockout or Countdown didn't win something? It was incredible for a tv show. The only thing I can think of this year that was better was Inception.

WOW!
To have cancelled TV all together…now that is willpower. Wished I had the courage to do that. Good for you!
More of us should do just that. I did however, change my cable package to economy and any channels/programs I didn't get, I watch online/Netflix. I do have Hulu for some programs, but you still get stuck watching commercials. Best thing, is just going to the various cable/broadcasting channels and watching the show directly from the people that put it on, without all the commercials. Best way to go, if its available and it doesn't cost a thing, well…almost nothing, as it does cost to have access to the Internet.

I totally agree that sitcoms have suffered a severe dive. There is barely one that I care to watch at all, nevermind regularly. The last sitcom I loooved was Frasier. So well written and acted. Ugh, after that I did watch "Raymond" on cable and thought it was funny. But since then…nada.
Reality tv I watch very little, simply because I find most of them trite. I did test some out but just did not find them engaging enough. And yes, a well-written show like Castle is like reading a really good book! Every week a chapter challenges my patience sometimes :-) but that makes Mondays my favorite day of the week and how many people can say that? (Well, non OCDers like you guys).
I don't care that much about the Emmy's either, but I think it does help draw in other viewers. Then again, it does not save a show from cancellation. …

OfflineSitcoms have taken a SEVERE hit lately. i remember several years ago, as Friends was going off the air, USA Today (I think) did a cover story on what happened to the American sitcom and what elements have been lost. It was a pretty interesting read. The last sitcom I was into at all was Will and Grace. Nothing else has really caught my attention and kept it since. The writing seems to have gone down hill, the pressure for money from advertising has actually shortened sitcoms to the point where they're actually around 20 minutes long and they all seem to be about either a husband and wife with kids who make snarky comments about how terrible marriage is or twenty- or thirty-somethings trying to find their way in life and sleeping their way through various acquaintances. Dramas have kicked it up a notch, but comedies have really suffered.
And don't get me started on "reality" television. Bleh!
