I pretty much stopped at "mediocre police procedural".  I know others don't like the show, but I absolutely love it, and that's enough for me.  At least the comments were mostly positive.  I really like seeing people defend the show. smile

and the problem is … ?????

Yes the shows start the "same". I've voiced a similar "complaint"…. "Have CSU sweep for prints and fibers, canvas the neighborhood, etc."

But you almost have to go through all of that to have a "murder mystery". Can't wait until 10:45 to find a dead body can we?

Someone has to do the work. Lanie gets slammed for not being a realistic medical examiner, but her "purpose" is to kick the investigation into high gear in a hurry. we only have 42 actual minutes to tell the story.

Molly does not alway give Castle the missing link, but it seems like it, but it is down to under half the time by now.

Family is part of what defines who Rick Castle is. He has his public image (which we rarely see) and his private family life that we get to see but Beckett mostly does not. We "know" the "real" Rick, Beckett, Ryan, Esposito, Captain Montgomery and Lanie do not.

I think that the tag line for the web-site says it all.  The "deconstruction" was a foregone conclusion.  I did take some joy in the comments.

police shows are like ice cream… they have to have certain ingrediants, but there are hundreds of flavors.  There has to be some sort of "structure" so that a show moves along smoothly.  It's the characters that make a show what it is.

Forget the article, there's always going to be people who ethier LOVE the show ( Me) or they hate it. Guess we just have to let it roll off our shoulders and keep posting how much me love Castle. In the end that's all that matters. Castle and Beckett all the way

I don´t think it´s about loving or hating the show. The author even said they like to watch it. Objectively speaking, it IS a procedural that offers little surprises in storytelling. The mysteries aren´t all that great. BUT, as said, nobody watches for those mysteries, anyway. I don´t. This show is not about setting standards on how to make the most excellent crime drama. And it doesn´t pretend to be something that it isn´t. It IS, though, darn entertaining, and that´s why I (and I figure most people) watch it. It´s never been about the story, it´s always been about the characters and their interactions. So what if it follows the same pattern every week? As long as they keep the chemistry up and have it as much fun as it is, I´ll continue to love it.

So, what was the author's point?   A murder investigation is a pretty standard process.

People are always going to find something to nit pick about on castle whether it be about the characters or procedural stuff. All that matters is we keep supporting the show by tuning in every week. But whatever are we going to do with ourselves for the next 2 weeks without castle:( Cry Guess I'll catch up on  the season 2 DVD. How bout yall?

That author ticked me off right away when he or she referred to the show as "mediocre."  Yes, it is predictable and starts the same way and ends the same way, but that's not why I watch.  I watch for what goes on in between all those predictable scenes – the banter between Castle and Beckett, their interactions with the supporting cast, the beautiful camerawork, the twists, the effortless combination of drama and comedy, among other things.  There's always going to be some snob who never appreciates this show for what it is and can't get past the fact that it's not reality, IT'S TV!  Just enjoy it!  And if they had been watching from the beginning, they'd know that Beckett always gets handed the really weird cases, thus the far-out twists that some complain strain their credibilty.
