It's suprising it's a Derrick Storm novel, after all that character was killed off before the first episode and that was why we have this series in the first place. I would have expected a Nikki Heat graphic novel, what do we really know about Derrick Storm ?

Backstory. I think this is a further expansion of the Castle universe beyond Nikki Heat. This will reach a different segment of the potential fandom for the show.

It will be really interesting to see the difference between Castle's male character (before he met Beckett) and Nikki Heat as he gets to know Beckett more. I'm looking forward to both!
… but I take exception to that comment about joining Twitter.. Yes, my kid got me on Twitter, but it was for Castle not Nathan Fillion and I've *already* read a graphic novel… so there!

Agreed. All we know about the character of Derek Storm is that Castle killed him off in the pilot. Getting to know Derek Storm is a further clue into Castle's past.

I have never read a graphic novel in my life, but the Castle tie-in has this one on pre-order for me. And I love that the writer says this about one of the female characters:
Yes, color us intrigued! "Castle" fans are accustomed to a female character that is just as capable, and in most cases more capable, than the male lead. Will that type of character be in "Deadly Storm?" If so, what can you tell us about her?
Yes, absolutely. Just like the show, the book is brimming with smart, strong, capable women who have their own motives and challenges. It's a large cast and I can name five women I'm proud of and interested in, but the star is really Clara Stryker, Storm's CIA handler. She's heavily influenced by Kate Beckett, our justification being that Castle has always been chasing down that muse.

Saw the sneak peek of the graphic novel and it looks pretty good. I'm not into that kind of thing at all, but I'll definitely be buying that.

Thanks for posting that article Leftfield. It's so cool that Castle fans have these tie-ins to expand the universe of the show. Great to see in the article that Heat Rises is at #5 on their list.
