No. I'm a little concerned too.
I wouldn't be too worried. Remember, Andrew Marlowe has ALWAYS said that the Castle and Beckett relationship is the bread and butter of the show. However, it will be nice to have a "secondary" couple take a little bit of pressure off of them for an episode or two and to show that two people who work together can make a relationship work.

It's fine if that's what it is, just don't use that relationship to put C/B on the backburner.

I don't think that Andrew and Co. would do that…..at least I hope not.

This show is Castle and Beckett's story, and I think that it will stay that way. But I think it's been said by a lot of people that they want to learn more about the secondary characters, their back story, relationships and such. This is just maybe part of that? It makes for a better show I think, to have all the characters in it to have more rounded and more complex personalities. So, IMO, a strength, not a weakness, if that makes sense.

Offlineexactly, Leftfield! We, the viewers (or during screening) asked for more Lanie after the first episode first season, and they wrote more Lanie into the episodes. We asked for Lanie/Esposito after the "skirt/smack you/looking forward to that" from first episode second season, and now we're getting that too. Why should we get worried, when Marlowe is actually giving us what we asked for?
They've always said they're going to take their time with the main couple, the only thing to fear is the point in time when the writers run out of good ideas.

If they concentrate on the Caskett relationship in each episode it would burn out too soon and would be repetitive after a time. The show needs some distraction, some variety. They can do it by either stalling their process with imaginary SOs or showing something other interesting topic. I vote for the second option. Esposito and Laine deserve to get some screen time, they are interesting and well rounded characters and they are integral part of the show. Beside, the reactions to their romance could tell a lot about how Castle and Beckett can imagine to handle a similar situation.

OfflineI would not be worried that L/E would end up as the main couple for a while. The show is built around Castle and Beckett. As good as Lanie and Esposito are as characters, it's not why we tune in.
Their romance will be a diversion and hopefully will shed a bit of light on C/B that nothing ventured, nothing gained.
As for the 2 bachelors comment in the promo; technically any man who is unmarried (not unattached) is considered a bachelor.
So unless he secretly eloped with Gina, Castle fits that bill.
For someone who doesn't like spoilers, I've watched every one during this break. Oy.

OfflineI'm interested to see how the L/E romance plays out, and I'm not too concerned about them taking the focus off Castle and Beckett. But I am a little worried that the L/E romance is expressly being used as a substitute for Castle and Beckett getting physical (as Jon says: "With Castle and Beckett not being able to get together, they're relying on our characters to play out the sexual element.") I don't expect that kind of physical development between Castle and Beckett anytime soon, but I'm hoping the L/E relationship is not a substitute for any kind of progress between Castle and Beckett. I'd hate to see some development between C/B over the course of the next few episodes and then see them take a step backward and/or be in a holding pattern.
I have definitely wanted to see Lanie and Esposito's characters developed, so I am happy to see them get more screen time. I am just surprised that there has not been more character development (especially of Lanie) before the romance. I guess we'll just learn more about them as it plays out.

I think you're absolutely right. It will actually benifit Castle and Beckett's story if the writers give some time to other characters/story lines. If it is 100% Castle and Beckett people will get burned out. And it is a great opportunity to see their reaction to the Lanie Esposito relationship. It can be used as another means of getting a better idea about their hopes and fears starting up a realationship. Both Lanie and Esposito are also quality characters so it's not like they would annoy me. All these side stories of Jenny and Ryan and Lanie and Esposido will help round out the show and help it stay fresh. All that being said, just because they give lanie and Esposito time I hope they don't backburner Castle and Beckett (I honestly doubt they will since they are the main characters)

OfflineI agree with most everything everyone has said about the Lanie/Esposito hookup: it being a catalyst for Castle & Beckett to see that two people who work together on a regular basis can have a relationship, it won't take the focus off Castle & Beckett because it will get thinking that maybe they can make it work, we'll learn more about Lanie and Esposito's backgrounds, etc. Hopefully it will also teach the two of them that if you meet someone who you really have chemistry with, who you really, and feel like they like you back, DON'T WAIT TO TELL THEM! Make a move. Plus, as others have said, Andrew Marlowe knows we fans want to see Castle & Beckett together, so all other plot devices and storylines are going to be geared towards letting the two of them learn enough about each other so that they feel comfortable enough to enter a relationship.
I am curious though, about why Lanie & Esposito would chose to keep their relationship secret? If it's for professional reasons, I could understand that, but I don't understand if it's for any other reason.

OfflineTrue that Castle and Beckett are the main focus of the show. The other characters are great and NEED to have more exposure. This is one way (Lanie and Esposito getting neked counts as more exposure
) to get more screen time for them.
I hope that Castle is on for more than five seasons – I think that season 4 is almost a given with the ratings they have been getting. But IF the stories continue to be about Rick and Kate, and they are in 90% of the scenes, then Nathan and Stana will get burnt out (see how tired Stana looks on the Pauly center videos). I think with this cast if Castle and Beckett are on screen only 60 – 75% of the time the show will continue to be successful, and they will stay fresh. It also keeps the other actors engaged and wanting to stay on the show. Got to keep all of the actors happy – otherwise we might see the "Moonlighting Curse" strike again, not because of on screen romance, but because of OFF screen burnout and unhappiness.

I not sure that substitute is a good word. I'm kinda thinking that the Lanie Esposito romance is going to be in addition to what's going on between Castle and Beckett. Perhaps as a counterpoint or an example for Castle and Beckett. And, let's face it, the show could really use a well rounded relationship with a sexual component. And regardless of Jon's comments, I don't think that the show is going to become the "Lanie and Esposito boink-fest". I bet we see them do the deed to establish the fact that there is a relationship and then it will fade a bit into the background, and into the territory of inference and innuendo. After all, the show is about Beckett and Castle, Lanie and Esposito are support characters, I don't expect that to change much. I think Castle and Beckett and their relationship will still be the focus, as nothing Andrew Marlowe has said has led me to believe otherwise.
I'm surprised too that we didn't get more of a clue about what was going on between them and more back story before now. Although it does seem like Esposito has been mentioning Lanie a lot more, and it has been inferred that they are spending more time together professionally. Perhaps they really wanted the whole thing to be more of a surprise to the audience as well as to their friends and co-workers?

OfflineI think it's interesting that they are building up relationships around Castle and Beckett as they deal with their own feelings. You have Alexis and Ashley's young love. Ryan and Jenny being engaged. and now Lanie and Esposito crossing the professional/personal relationship line.

OfflineEverybody's recent posts about it not becoming a lanie esposito boink fest have put my mind at ease, I didn't think they would make it all about that since the show is centered around beckett and castle sollving murders but the mind makes you wonder and then you get nervous and think that it's going to be GA all over again cause that's all they do on that show anymore who's boinking who not even medical related anymore. But anyway enough with my tirade and can't wait for the episode
