OfflineJust watched the Nathan Fillion clip with Lettermann on CBS. Much too short but it also looked hidiously disjointed as if large chunks had been cut out. I know The Late Show records earlier in the day so maybe there was more but it ended on the cutting room floor. At least Letterman announced Castle on Mondays at 10 over on ABC.
Martha: Freud was an addict but that didn’t stop him from helping people. Castle: Sadly, faced with his monther’s twisted, yet unimpeachable logic, Richard Castle’s head exploded.

OfflineI stayed up to watch the interview because I was really hoping for possibly a clip and a big plug about the 2-parter (although I did not consider the fact that a CBS interview might hinder that). I don't often watch Letterman, but waiting for Nathan to come on was torture…the first part wasn't good either.
I know he hasn't been on Letterman before, but I was surprised that it seemed like Nathan was a bit nervous. And as everyone else has said, the content of the interview was really disappointing (which I don't necessarily blame Nathan for as the interviewer takes the lead). First off, Letterman got it wrong when he said Castle was in its 4th season (I suppose Nathan could have jumped in after correcting him with a plug on the exciting episodes coming up, but maybe that would have come off weird). After that, as has been mentioned, it was all about OLTL, soap fans, and being mistaken for Bateman with just the mention of the day and time for Castle at the end. Not even a direct Firefly mention, which I was kind of expecting since it is coming back to cable.
It's too bad that they didn't get Nathan or other cast on an ABC talk show this week…late night or even morning like GMA or The View. Those seem to be the best potential promotion for the show for obvious reasons.

Offlineand why was he on letterman again? (I'm not blaming Nathan at all) but at least when Nathand AND Stana were on Craig Ferguson they got to talk about Castle I mean it's messed up they go on a late night talk show on another network and can't even promote their own show why just because it's on a competing network

This. I blame the PR guys at Castle and ABC for this, not Nathan. They should have known Letterman won't be allowed to talk about a rival network's show on CBS. Why not send the cast to may be Craig Ferguson or some other talk show where they can talk about Castle and the upcoming two parter. And then they worry about ratings not being up to the mark.

OfflineI wasn't feeling well last night and just completely missed Letterman after waiting for days (should have taped it). But it's terrible to hear this. The rival network thing doesn't entirely hold up, because Craig Ferguson is on a rival network, too. And I've heard other stars go on rivals and talk about their shows. Nathan may have been nervous and didn't want to jump in with a promo. But more to blame is the pr dept. at ABC and Nathan's own personal pr person, too – should have made that a requirement ahead of time. Letterman is kind of known for sabotaging people who want to plug things if he feels like it. Many of you won't remember Joan Collins ("Dynasty", among other things). But she was on to promote an upcoming project (forget what it was – a tv show or movie that was current — this was a lot of years ago). Only reason for her coming on. And what did Letterman do? Show a clip from a film she'd done many 10-15 years prior where she was semi-nude. She was completely outraged, embarrassed, dumbfounded, etc. And he just smiled. I don't like Letterman's tactics – a good show is not about making your guests or their projects look bad, it's about making them look good and making the audience entertained (though I guess he feels he's entertaining). Anyway, sorry for Nathan, sorry for ABC and sorry for "Castle". We need good promotion now, not either no promotion or very little. The 4th season could depend on this.

OfflineI wasn't really surprised that there wasn't anything about the show itself. Letterman usually doesn't ask anything about the show. When Lost was on (and I was a huge Lost fan), it was always the exact same thing. Just a colossal waste of time.
Whatever, at least it was great to see Nathan. Now, was I the only one who found completely and utterly adorable that Nathan was so nervous? I just wanted to hold his hand and tell him to take a deep breath, the poor thing.

Generally speaking, a show like this has a pre-interview in which the subject gives a couple of anecdotes that he/she thinks will be funny or interesting and when the person comes on the show Dave/Jay/Ferg/Conan ask the person about it. The Nathan interview is four minutes long. Dave asked two questions. Nathan told two stories. Dave plugged the show. That's it. That's all it's ever going to be unless the guest is someone like Joan Collins, who is a much bigger name in the industry amd/or like Richard Harris who was just a magnificent story-teller. (Also, Joan wasn't outraged, dumbfounded or embarrassed. She was annoyed that she came on HIS show and he wanted to talk about what HE wanted to talk about rather than what she wanted to talk about. Too bad. It's his show. He's not worried about his guest's ratings. He's worried about his ratings. So to expect anything more is … odd.)
Having said that, I would've liked them to show a clip from the show, but since Paris Hilton was on there was very little time for Nathan.

He did seem a little nervous but then he played that nervousness into a story and that worked. He did good. Just about what you could expect of a Letterman show, pity it was only 6 min. Since it's the first time he got on Letterman and he didn't know him, perhaps next time it'll be longer.

OfflineI was deeply disappointed in this interview last night. Letterman spent too much time gushing over Paris to give Nathan any attention at all. Poor Nathan didn't get a chance to talk about Castle. He spent more time talking about One Life To Live than anything else. The story about the AMAs was cute, but I wanted to get some dish on Castle.

OfflineKind of looked to me like Natan was blinsided (either deliberately or accidently). The Castle PR people (or his PR people) set this up in the days before a big two parter I am sure with the plan to promote the show/episode. Either Letterman avoided that part or it ended up on the cutting room floor.

OfflineI don't watch these talk shows regularly but I've seen enough that when a guest I like is on they're promoting their latest project. Be it a movie, tv show, book, music, whatever. And network rivalary has never been a factor when it comes to tv shows. At least in my experience. Maybe they don't show clips but they at least talk about the show.
If it was a time issue fine. I don't like it but I can see that happening. Especially if the host doesn't do a better job of moving things along.
If something was discussed about Castle and it ended up on the chopping block … well … I don't get that. Seems you would find something else to cut.

OfflineI was a disappointed with Nathan's Interview, I wanted some scoop about castle and everything that was said was things I already knew. Stana's tweet was what made me want to tape it cause her tweet made it sound like Nathan was going to be dishing a whole lot of stuff about castle. Loved the interview but wished it could have been longer and geared more towards promoting castle.

Yeah, I was especially excited for this one because Stana tweeted we would learn maaany things. I don't know if she was being sarcastic or that the CBS guys just messed up whatever plans Nathan and the ABC PR Team might have thought for the interview.
I just couldn't believe Paris got 20 odd min and Nathan just 6.
