OfflineI was flipping through the magazine this morning and was pleasantly surprised to see someone submitted a question.
http://www.parade.com/celebrit…..astle.html
Q Richard Castle, the lead character on the ABC drama Castle, is a mystery writer. A novel, Heat Wave, recently published under his name, became a bestseller. Who really wrote it?–P. Manzer, Gloversville, N.Y.
A Castle's producers and Hyperion, the book's publisher, won't say. While Nathan Fillion, who plays Richard Castle, does book signings for Heat Wave, "I don't show up and pretend to be Richard Castle," he tells us. The publisher will say only that the real author has appeared on Castle. The about-the-author note on the Heat Wave jacket teases: "His first novel…received the Nom DePlume Society's prestigious Tom Straw Award for Mystery Literature." Has Tom Straw (an actual TV and mystery-novel writer) ever appeared on Castle? "Yes," Fillion says. Case closed.

OfflineVery interesting Jamz. thanks for posting. I just searched for "Tom Straw" on IMDB and came up with 2 hits – one is an actor whose only credit is as a detective in a 1996 movie called Close Up. The other, the more obvious candidate, has done quite a lot of writing (particularly for The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson), producing, and a little acting, but isn't credited as appearing in an episode of Castle. If Nathan is telling the truth, then he must have just been an extra.

OfflineTheOldPI guessed this over on the abc.com discussion board ages ago ( = last fall), I can't find it now so maybe they removed it, but what she said in addition was that in When the Bough Breaks, at the book launch party, Castle sits with a guy when Beckett walks in, and shakes his hand as he gets up to approach Beckett… and that guy looks like Tom Straw the writer…

OfflineYep, TheOldPI figured this one back a while ago. We all still thank him for being a genius and figuring it out, I'd actually read about the "Tom Straw Award" and I actually thought it was a real award LOL. Shows what I know!
