Just heard from a good friend who braved the insanity of the San Fransisco Harry Potter convention–Nathan Fillion was a big hit!

Actually, his stuff was a big hit–Nathan donated several things to be auctioned off at the convention, with proceeds going to the foundation he co-founded: KidsNeedToRead .  Of the items auctioned were several autographed "Firefly" comics (both he and Alan Tudyk signed those) and his own personal copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".

How personal was that copy?  The dude wrote notes in it!  Apparently they tried to read his writing and one of the things they could make out was "I know many spells…" or something like that.  My friend said it was hard to tell because the grammar or syntax was off a bit.  (which if you read his tweets, they can be…different. always funny, but different. )

Anyway, the auction raised a ton of money for KNTR, and Nathan will be getting an awesome t-shirt as a "thank you" from the convention:  A one of a kind "Azcatraz" t-shirt (guessing it's got a graphic melding Azkahban and Alcatraz as single prison like thingy.)

Wow that's great news, and for such a great cause too! It's great to see celebrities give back to the community and try to give others opportunities where they otherwise wouldn't have them :)

I wish more celebs would take that sort of initiative, it's a great way to give back.
