OfflineI haven't watched the interview yet, but I'm apalled and embarrassed for this fandom for personally attacking an actor for speaking his mind. He is entitled to his opinion and nothing that these so-called fans say will change it. So he likes a character from Firefly better than one from Castle. So what? Like it's been mentioned in this thread, Firefly is his baby, it was the one show that he fell in love with and was completely invested in. I'm not saying that he's not invested in Castle, but I understand his fondness for Firefly. It was a brilliant show that was canceled entirely too soon and never even got a chance to shine.
I was a Castle fan first, but I fell in love with Firefly and I completely understand his enthusiasm about it. Dissing Nathan because he likes one better than the other is doing a disservice to the show and fandom. More than that, it's completely childish.
These people need to think before they act. Seriously.

OfflineI have watched the show now, and it was a very interesting
insight into Nathan Fillion's life and career. Not unlike Inside The Actors
Studio with James Lipton (though Kevin Pollack is a far, far more engaging
interviewer than Lipton).
Regarding Castle, it's actually Nathan who first mentions the show, when he
talks about how he and Stana get teased over their Canadian accents. And when
Kevin comes back to it, 30 minutes in, Nathan says, "on my worst day, I'm
having a great day", and then Kevin cuts him off to start talking about
Firefly being canceled, and how that must make him appreciate the success of
Castle even more.
He talks about the great, collaborative nature of Castle, and how everyone does
an excellent job.
Kevin actually doesn't ask about the kiss, or about Moonlighting. He mentions
both of them, saying he will ask, but then moves onto talking about the
scripting of Castle, and how smart it is. Nathan talks about how much fun it is
to be able to tweak certain things in his dialogue, or make choices that
wouldn't occur to him without having the other actor to react to.
And, for anyone worried that his negativity about Castle/Beckett might
influence the show, he says flat out here that he doesn't have much input. He
"pitches a lot of ideas, 90% of which are crap".
The whole thing just seemed like it was Kevin Pollack who wasn't interested in
Castle, and the questions certainly didn't seem to be vetted or pre-set. Kevin
just seemed to have notes regarding topics he wanted to talk about, and Nathan
is so garrulous and enthusiastic that there were probably a lot left over at
the end. He just had such a lot to say about so many different things, that I
bet he didn't even realize he hadn't talked that much about Castle.
Firefly is barely mentioned until the last 20 minutes of the (2 hour)
interview, and what really came across was how much it hurt when the show was
canceled. If you want to draw comparisons with Castle, it would be like the
break up with Kyra, the first time it happens is always going to hurt the most,
and it's always going to be at the back of your mind. And the element of it
that seemed to interest Kevin the most was that the show was revived as a
movie, solely due to the passion of the fans, which was a pretty incredible
thing, when you consider that the original series ran for only 14 episodes. And
it wasn't a tv movie, it was a theatrical release.
And even when Firefly does come up, he doesn't dwell on it, they soon move onto
talking about the Castle books.
Seriously, anyone who likes Nathan Fillion should watch this interview. It's a
fantastic look at his life, and at the thought processes behind everything he
does. And honestly, I think think that anyone who puts this much effort into an
interview deserves far better than to be insulted for not saying the exact
things people wanted him to.

Thanks for the balance. It sounds like I need to make the time to watch.

I could not agree more! It was kind of hurtful to see such a negative reaction just because Nathan expressed his opinion. His comment no way implies that he does not enjoy working on Castle or the cast/crew. Firefly, as we ALL know, holds a very special place in his heart and while I've never seen it, his allowed to still be passionate about the show that did so much for him.
I just feel really bad for nathan because he does not deserve this at all and this was NOT a Castle interview this was a Nathan Fillion interview. I also agree that most of the Castle promotion will come during the Letterman interview.

OfflineI wasn't expecting a 2 hour (I didn't even know the show would last that long) love fest of Castle. How boring would that be when Nathan has so much more to offer on various topics. I do admit I was disappointed in the lack of Castle discussion though. He had nice things to say about it when it was briefly mentioned and I guess we should just be thankful we got that much about it.
I hope those of us who have expressed slight disappointment in the lack of Castle discussion are not getting mixed in with those "fans" that are flaming him elsewhere for his opinions.

Thanks for telling us the real story. Makes more sense now, that it wasn't much about Castle, he's done a lot more in his career.

OfflineHow could anyone who actually watched that interview not love it? Nathan was awesome. He was honest, he was funny, he gave great insightful answers and looked great.
At 44:00 minutes he gave the cast and crew of the show the greatest compliment when he talked about how everyone is on their game and so professional.
I love Nathan as an actor and as a person and this interview only reinforced it.

He was really enjoying himself as well. I feel bad for him that some people reacted so badly to it. And I don't mean anyone who's posted in this thread, but I've seen some of the things on twitter, and I think some people just need to grow up a little.
It would be a real shame if this sort of thing made him less enthusiastic and honest in interviews in the future, because he is an interviewer's dream. Anecdotes about his aging cats? His Halloween costumes? The thoughtful way he talked about each stage of his career? Some chat shows hosts would kill to get that sort of thing out of their guests.
I think people should watch it before they make up their minds, and perhaps there was some confusion, thinking it would be Castle-heavy, but as I said in my previous post, it doesn't seem like Kevin Pollak's show is that sort of thing. If watched with the intent of learning about Nathan Fillion and his career, I guarantee it will be enjoyable.
I'll say this as well, I bet there are some hardcore Firefly fans right now saying, "why didn't he talk about Firefly much? A two hour interview and all he can manage is a few minutes on the show he loves the most? And how dare he say he prefers Esposito to Jayne?"

OfflineI feel that Nathan has every right to have his own opinion about which show and which characters he prefers. I like both Firefly and Castle. I have to say that I enjoy Castle more than I do Firefly, but that is my opinion on the subject. I also prefer the character of Beckett over Inara. I think that both characters are interesting and a lot of fun, but I just find Beckett to be the more interesting of the two. Again, my opinion and I wouldn't get offended when others disagree with me. The only thing about the chat that I find deeply disappointing is the large focus on Firefly and very little attention given to Castle. I would find it more interesting if more attention had been given to Castle, since this is the show Nathan is currently working on. But they didn't so we move on. Let's not lose our heads over it and bring negative attention to the fans and the show.

OfflineI just watched the whole interview–it was really great! It wasn't about Firefly or Castle, it was about Nathan. It was the most insightful and fun peak into his almost entire life story. It wasn't like a talk show where you get random stories here and there, it was like full on, double rainbow, 10 mins for each portion or story Nathan wanted to tell. I had read some of the negative comments (even people saying they were just mildly disappointed) so I was skeptical going in, but i really have nO idea what everyone was talking about. I am more of Castle Groupie than a browncoat, thats just me, but I've always known that Firefly was Nathan's first love really, it was perfectly suited to his geeky alternate unniverse personality, it was a really complex and great character to play, and I can 100% understand its immense appeal to Nathan and to fans. From the way some people were talking I was expecting 2 hours of non stop Firefly adulation, which it wasn't at all. In fact, it was pretty much equal parts Castle and Firefly. Each only got about 5 mins because really the whole interview wasn't about the shows Nathan did, it was about him and his stories and likes/dislikes etc. Yes, he chose Inara over Beckett (um… this is fictional… he's not saying Castle would chose Inara, and he's not saying he would chose Morena over Stana) but what people failed to also state was that directly after he chose Esposito over Jane, which also doesnt really matter, but it shows he really appreciates both shows. The interview for sure was not Castle oriented, but Nathan never seemed to try to cut the conversation short about Caste and veer it towards Firefly, I think he was just going with the flow, and he said some really sweet things about both shows. I've known forever that Firefly has been and will always be Nathan's favorite show and work (and world), so it came as no surprise to hear him say it again. It really was unique. So when Nathan says stuff like "Firefly was my best work ever" or stuff like that he is NOT jabbing at Castle in the slightest, in fact he gushes about Castle and the cast and crew far more than many actors do about their shows. Please, grow up! Besides, it was a fantastic interview everyone who likes Nathan should watch it! Its interesting, fun, and engaging. Yes, its not full of Castle spoilers, but honestly, thats not the job of the cast. If you want that kind of thing, Andrew Marlowe is the best person to talk to. Anyway, just my 2 cents. But by some Castillions being such brats (or so I've heard) you'll make Nathan (as well as the whole cast and crew) less interested to talk about Castle or even to interact with the fanbase in general. NF is awesome. Please respect that.

I'm one of those who are a little disappointed in the lack of Castle discussion, but I assure you I'm not flaming him. I don't know about the others. But… I think and I hope that Castle's real fans know how to be respectful of people's opinions.

Oh I know that. We're in the same boat but still respect his opinion. What I meant was that some can't even understand why some of us were disappointed at all. I didn't want to get lumped in with those fans that are flaming him and saying nasty things just because we expressed some slight disappointment. I was only wanting to make sure people understood the difference.

OfflineI've watched the first hour of the show so far – thought it was interesting. I totally love Nathan Fillion now but have to admit I'd never followed his career before, so it's interesting to learn about him professionally and personally. And may I just say something totally off base and un-related to his career? I love the fact that he has given a home to two elderly cats. First — lots of men don't seem to like cats. Secondly, to take a cat in towards the last part of its life (or any animal, for that matter) is such a compassionate and wonderful thing to do. They need love, too, yet so many people think of kittens or puppies first. And him making a "walker" for his cat that came with his home? Priceless and absolutely lovely. I hope these comments aren't considered "spoilers" — I'm probably the only person who didn't know about this, anyway.

OfflineI've watched it and ….I loved it. That's what I tweeted both Terri Edda and Nathan, hoping that it might offset all the negativity, even in a small way. I just feel embarrassed and ashamed that any fan, no matter the fandom, would go so far as to express their opinions that way; respect and courtesy are apparently a thing of the past for some; the anonimity of the web allowing them to act with impunity. Instead of appreciating his candidness and honesty, he gets gunned down. Way to go 'fans', way to go …
