OfflineI think Nathan is a great actor, which shows in all the roles that he plays. From Castle, to Captain Hammer, to Mal, he really takes every role to heart, and that's what makes him so great. Sure, his reputation with TV shows may not be the greatest, but he still does it because he enjoys it. Too often, people don't do something because they're passionate about it, and that's why I appreciate Nathan so much as an actor.
It's funny, I went to myspace today for the first time in forever trying to remember when it was that I met a friend there, in the process I ran across a message Nathan sent in reply to a message I sent him about the film Waitress mostly… I was SO excited when he replied to me (this was back in 08) because it was so very rare of him to reply to people there and that made it something special (much rarer than him responding to someone on Twitter) anyhow, his message said "Best letter ever. Nathan" and I squee'd and jumped up and down, I was visiting my brother at the time and he thought I was a crazy person… which.. granted, I am [Image Can Not Be Found]
Here's another fun Nathan pic..

OnlineI like the nuance that he can build into a scene. It's very subtle but adds to the underpinning of the emotional moments that other actors have to play. He's like Fred Astaire – he needs to be great at his lifts to be able to showcase the other actors with which he works. He's not one to always demand the solo steps for himself – he's a great ensemble player even as the lead.

Here's a screencap from White Noise 2 (anyone else seen it?)
I haven't seen it yet, though I would like to. And this is my photo contribution — from another small film, Water's Edge.
(Boy, the man has gorgeous eyelashes, BTW — just noticed. [Image Can Not Be Found])
I also think that Nathan is a very nuanced actor and a great ensemble player, and what I also find quite fascinating about his acting abilities is how versatile he is. Not every actor, even among "big names" of Hollywood, can be equally convincing in both comedy and drama, and Nathan is able to nail both and to look very organic and natural in any genre. He has great comedic timing, as we can see in Castle (and in some of his earlier sitcom roles, such as Jonny Donnelly in Two Guys and A Girl), and at the same time he can play angsty, tortured, tragic and even evil and scary characters exceedingly well. Not to mention that both his comic and serious characters just ooze charisma and virility. I like to watch him playing, I like the richness of his facial expressions and gestures, I like his ability to use his voice as a great acting tool, etc.
And I have to admit, I also like him very much as a person, as he seems to be such a great and funny guy to be around, and seems to have this great combination of boyish charm, self-deprecating humor, good manners and consideration for the others. He always makes me smile, whether I read his funny good-natured tweets or see his photographs where he eagerly makes such an "adorkable" fool of himself. I would love to have such a friend, family member or co-worker, somebody who's always ready to play around and share a good laugh. Maybe it's because in my life, both at home and at work, there are too many serious people around me, all buttoned-up and "adult" in every sense of the word, and sometimes my "inner child" just longs for a playmate, for someone who I can just have some light-hearted fun with. Maybe that's why I find Nathan's personality so charming and appealing.

OfflineNathan has a very Cary Grant-esque quality about his acting. He's usually suave and dashing, but he'll also play the goofball when given the chance. I always appreciate the choices he makes in his scenes and the choices he makes in the projects he does. It's nice to see him in roles that we wouldn't necessarily think of him playing. (To be honest Caleb, on Buffy, was one of those roles for me. He is sooo not a bad guy!!.LOL) I really believe he was put on this earth to play Richard Castle. He does it so perfectly! That said, Rick's still not my fav character he's done. I LOVE Dr Pomatter in Waitress. Nathan was brilliant in that role.
I'll probably be checking this thread alot cause Nathan's the reason I started watching Castle to begin with.
His smile just kills me everytime.

OfflineNathan is the sort of bloke the normal guy on the street can get a long with (I like to think anyway) He doesn't have airs and graces like so many others in his line of work. i would love to go out for a night on the town with him, go for a few drinks and all that, get drunk and end up in a strip club. I remember him as Caleb from Buffy but he will allways be Malcolm Reynolds to me. I loved Firefly/Serenity and its nice to see that he has brought the same enthusiasm into Castle, almost like he isn't acting at all but merely being himself…….Keep up the good work..

OfflineWhat I really like about Nathan is that while he's a famous movie star, he still seems very real. Very down to earth, funny, charming, intelligent, etc. He's also one of those rare actors who men want to be friends with and hang out with, but who women want to date. Not many actors can pull that off. I also like that he's not a party animal with his name splashed across the tabloids. He keeps his private life private, is dedicated to his work, and is generous with his time to the crew and cast. I remember one actress who was playing an extra in a Castle episode and she said one memory she has from being on the show was of Nathan talking to her during some down time and just making her feel welcome, making sure she was doing ok, etc. A leading man has enough to worry about on set, but for him to take time to speak to an extra shows a really special quality. No wonder Castle has a reputation as one of the most welcoming sets in television.
Lastly, a former co-worker's daughter guest starred on Castle (she was Ruthie, the socialite who in Home is Where the Heart Stops told Beckett Castle is known as The White Whale). She also guest starred on a number of TV shows like NCIS, CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, CSI: Miami, and Heroes and she said that of all the leading men she'd worked with Nathan was one of the nicest.

OfflineHow adorable was Nathan at the People's Choice Awards.
A. he looked fantastic! I loved that purple tie on him.
B. His acceptance speech, he went out of his way to thank not just the big name people (eg the cast) but to also remember all the crew members who work so hard and often get overlooked..and then he thanked, us… the fans! *hugs Nathan*. He was clearly emotional – I think he nearly cried … and you could tell it was genuine and not just an "act" like I've seen at other awards shows *cringe!*
C. In the press meeting he talked about OLTL and how a lot of people look down on soaps but how much respect he had for the people he worked with and the hard work they do.

his acceptance speech was really moving, he seemed to be genuinely happy and touched.
I was moved by it, too. Such a classy and heartfelt speech. And his last phrase where he praised his fans ("let this giant crystalized tear of victory be a symbol of your excellent taste") made me instantly remember this dialogue from Firefly:

I started watching community because of his tweets and that show is really good!
I watch Community and I really like it, it's a sort of a smart comedy, not just another stupid sitcom with a laugh track. Has some pretty good performances, too. This show is now on border of cancellation, though — only 10 episodes where shot this season and now their further fate is still inknown. In these circumstances I find Nathan's twitter support and his obvious efforts to help them survive the only way he can — by drawing attention of at least some his fans to this show — deeply touching and noble. You rock, Nathan. You know how it feels, to have your beloved show cancelled, and so you do whatever you can to save your friends and colleagues from that pain. I love you.

OfflineI saw Nathan in Firefly, and was really intrigued by this charming actor. He commanded attention, but in a not so obvious way.
When I saw the first episode of Castle, I thought they had created the series around him. Nathan IS Richard Castle. I cannot imagine anyone else playing this part. As mentioned above, he can have you laughing one minute, and reaching for your tissues the next.
I love the fact that he is truly committed to community and charity causes, especially his literacy work with children. This is such an understated but huge humanitarian quality that he has. He doesn't want the recognition for his community work, but that his name translates the projects he is involved in, into something substantial for future generations.

I didn`t know Nathan at all (before Castle showed up) but my OCD got me to buy the Firefly/Serenity DVDs although it`s not actually my kind of prefered show.
I just saw his face in a promo (starting episode 1 in German tv) and I liked it immediately. But there`s more to him as a person and as an actor. He seems to be a kind of a reserved guy but with an ultimateaura and a kind of amazing attraction that knocks you out when he smiles or laughs. And that is the fascination where Castle kicks in.
I think you hit it (bolded part). I cannot imagine any other actor playing the Richard Castle character, either. It seems that he IS Castle.
