Hmmm…I'm still reserving judgement on these other relationships being "fantastic". Josh may look good on paper (and on screen), but I need to see more of him…

OfflineTall, good looking, dark, handsome, cardiosurgeon and likes the pets = really good relationship.
I think I will leave that world to the writers where these are the cornerstones of a really good relationship. With these attributes he could be a convicted wife-beater or a Tiger Woods Mk.II. Sorry for the rant, but these BS PR texts are driving me mad. At least find out something less irritating if they want me to take the message seriously.

OfflineObviously the relationships aren't SO fantastic if one is ending soon.

I found his comments on the Castle novels interesting.
Me too. Really, I find it fascinating that Castle and Beckett have never discussed the content of his Heat books beyond the one mention in season 2 about Heat and Rook having sex. I suppose such conversations might lead to places they are not ready to take the characters, but if I was Beckett I would certainly wonder how much the books convey Castle's true desires.

OfflineFor those that have read the novel..
It's interesting how Castle writes the Rook/Nikki relationship. Rook is pretty much pining for Nikki in Naked Heat, but she shows little to no interest in anything besides casual with him. If the books reflect Castle's thoughts, does this mean we should believe that Castle thinks Beckett knows how he feels yet doesn't care? Does Castle think that Beckett doesn't take his feelings serious? Nikki shows signs of affection to Rook, but it's nothing serious that would constitute being an actual couple; the same can be said with Castle and Beckett's relationship.

OnlineI've been thinking. It's common knowledge to us, the audience, that Castle is Rook. But has Castle really said this to anyone? We know that he's based Nikki on Beckett, but is it public knowledge that Rook is based on him? Or is it like his very poorly kept secret that he doesn't talk about? I've been wondering about this, because in a way he's baring his soul in a very public manner, talking about his feeling for Beckett in a way that he would never do in real life. Beckett and Castle both acknowledging that Rook is based on Castle would open a can of worms regarding his feeling for Beckett. Is that why the books are really not discussed in the show, because they don't want to go there yet.
The Nikki Heat books to me kinda occupy a twilight zone place. The role that they play in Castle can certainly be confusing. Sometimes they tell of things to come, sometimes they tell of things that have already happened and somethings they tell about things totally unrelated.

Beckett knows Rook is Castle. She asked if he'd written a sex scene, "between us" in Fool Me Once, and in Tick Tick Tick, she was discomfited enough by Avery mentioning the sex scene that she felt the need to point out that it was only fiction.
This is something that I think has been really lacking in this season. Has Beckett read Naked Heat? Has anyone? They've mentioned it a total of once, by my count, since the season opener. For me, being a writer is a pretty big part of who Castle is, I don't want it brushed under the carpet as completely as it has been.
Do the characters need to discuss the plots of the books, and draw continuous parallels with real life? No, certainly not, but I would like to see someone acknowledge that the book actually exists, and that they've read it.

OfflineI've been thinking that maybe they're reserving all book-related discussion on the show for the Heat Wave movie episodes. Publishing a real book written by a TV character, while it's been done before, is still experimental in a sense. Bringing it up as often as they did in season 2 was a marketing device to remind people that it does, in fact, exist and can be bought in stores. Now that both the show and the books have made bestseller lists and garnered enough attention, they probably don't feel the need to advertise it as often on the program.
I do agree that they need to mention it more on the show, not just to promote it, but for the characters to acknowledge its existence and its contents as well.

Twice actually. In the season 3 premier there was the "blatant" plug of the book when Beckett, Ryan and Esposito were at the first crime scene.
The second mention of the book was in ep 304: Punked, when Ryan (or Montgomery) told Esposito to go home and get some rest and Castle piped in saying he could read Naked Heat.
