i am. I got my own personal BSTL straight from Nathan. And let me just say that all the tweets out there with @NathanFillion and @andreajean915 next to each other make my heart skip a beat! ahhhhh! (i'm totally in Fangirl mode!)

From what I read online and seen on videos on youtube, Nathan loved doing Firefly, and was sad when it got canned. Now I don't mind the referance. I think its kinda fun. I became a fan of Firefly not that long ago, after renting it from Netflix. I was looking what else he was in besides Firefly/Serenity. Decied to put Firefly in the queue. After watching the 1st disc i put Serenity on the queue. And really sad when i watched all the Firefly discs and had to mail them back(and also wished that Nathan did more commetary on there  ).

Which brings the question……just how much Firefly/ Serenity Stuff did Nathan steal? What other interesting stuff does he have? I read somewhere that he took the holster but not the gun.
Hmmm….. Will this make a good question at Creation Con? What do you all think?

There really aren' t as many Firefly references throughout the show's seasons as there are fans talking about all the references throughout the show.
And all that stuff wouldn't be on screen if the writers and director and producers didn't want them in there. So I don't think it's so much Nathan pitching the idea al the time.
And if you're not a dyehard browncoat, most people don't know that Nathan has come out and said he wasn't just a part of the show…He was a "FAN" of the show. So all those appearances and events he goes to, he's as big a fangeek as the rest of us.

I just think its great how there are so many new Browncoats! I am a recent convert as of this past week only! And I agree 100% with what everyone has been saying so far. Firefly is AMAZING and I never would have thought that I would enjoy a sci-fi western. But this show is pure genius. I feel like its almost like a second wave of Firefly lovin'. Maybe this renewed interest will bring the possibility of more Firefly/Serenity to reality! I cannot even begin to comprehend, though, how original fans must have felt when Firefly was cancelled. At least I knew that when I was watching. Cancelling it was seriously unjust. I think that it is so awesome/cute that Nathan still has such a strong love/soft spot for the show. Although it is important to appreciate the present work of actors, I don't like it when actors rush ahead, never looking back on their old shows; some of us devote a small part of ourselves to certain shows, and it's great to see that these characters are an important part of actors' lives too. The more they devote themselves to the character, the better the show is, I think. LONG LIVE THE BROWNCOATS!

That's right WhiteWhale, yer sure Nathan is going along with it but he's not behind it that is totally in the hands of the writers and producers. Nathan is playing along, as you said he's a FAN of Firefly and its what he's best known for. I really don't see why it seems to put peoples backs up? Need to chill out and realise its all fun maybe?

I totally agree. It is giving this show a cult feel. I also see it as a slap at Stana and the other actors. You have a TOny award winning actor in Rueben Santiago Hudson, Stan who has a wonderful movis screen resume but the shout outs are to FIREFLY fans? Tamal Jones is on broadway I believe, Reuben has quite a resume, Stans is a bind girl with many many diverse character portrayals in her resume, but we are subject to Firefly like it was Gone With the Wind. It really needs a lid on it………….no tact here, just straight forward smackdown—-quit it!

A "cult feel", you've got to be joking? A smackdown? Really. Wow. I hope the writers don't listen to you. I really think the references would go right by someone who isn't tuned in to message boards or Nathan on Twitter, and someone who didn't know his Firefly work.
I guess I don't understand this anger over maybe two "Firefly" references. BTW, I would be watching "Castle" without those references (Firefly and X-Files fan here), just because Nathan Fillion is in it… and because Rob Bowman and now Jose Molina are involved. If Nathan weren't in the show, I might not be watching it.
While I appreciate the other actors, they are not the reason I tuned in. Also, I'm not familiar enough with their other work to know if there are any references to their work. If there were, it wouldn't bother me at all, even if I knew about them. Just fun.
So, maybe you should ask yourself why are you SO angry over the writers, Nathan and his Firefly fans having a little fun? Chill.

OMG! I am so glad that Boston Scientist said what I've been feeling for a while. I just didn't know how to say it and I was afraid of the backlash. I too kind of feel like enough is enough with the whole Firefly thing. I admit that I might feel differently if I had been a fan of that show or of Nathan's prior to Castle. I had never even heard of Nathan before Castle.
I just feel like Castle is a different show from Firefly. I can maybe see some references in the first season to maybe bring over some of those fans, but now that we are in the second season I feel that it's time to let it go. Whether it's Nathan or some of the writers who may or may not have worked on Firefly previously. I also so an article possibly talking about having some old Firefly co-stars guest star on Castle and I thought to myself, "please noooo!" I'm sorry if I offended some Firefly fans, that wasn't my intention.
