There are references to other projects, too. Just this week he mentioned "Desperate Housewives".
Guess I have to consider myself a Browncoat, 'cause I love those references, but I hear there are going to be a lot of other references this season & we have to really watch & listen to catch them all.

NAthan himself has stated that he made the fatal mistake with Firefly. He fell utterly in love with it. It is still, I believe his favorite project he has ever been associated with. He sees himself as Mal and several other co-stars have stated that he leads panel talks on it just as Mal would.

Perhaps the folks who're tired of Firefly references aren't bothered as much by the references on the show but us Brown Coats fussing over them on the forum. I can appreciate how someone who doesn't know/doesn't care about FF would get pretty tired of hearing about it all the time around here. I just got here and already 2/3rds (of my 3 posts) reference Firefly!
So to those who don't care to hear about Firefly, please be patient with us. Imagine how you'd feel if Castle was canceled after only 14 episodes! We're all still trying to get over it. Those of us who miss Firefly are always going to hit on parallels or references. We can't help but want to relive the show we love anyway we can.

Out of the 800+ threads on this forum there are only a couple that reference Firefly, if anyone isn't interested in Firefly it's simple enough to just not read them and move on to the many other wonderful discussions

I am actually a V fan. I fell in love with Morena Baccarin in the pilot episode, and that led me to firefly. I am now a browncoat too, but I feel about V after only 4 epsiodes the same way that firefly fans feel about firefly. And the way the COD fans feel as well. I started watching castle for Nathan since he was inara's mal. I really really really want Morena to guest star on Castle, that would totally make my day. I know that he has asked her, but she has been unavailable. Maybe one day though.
I do like castle though. I just ordered season one on dvd, haven't gotten it yet. And mondays episode with Stana and the mystery surrounding her mothers death looks really good. I am sort of using castle as a way to cope until March 30. At least for me V isn't over yet. I may only get 12 episodes total, so it's sort of like firefly is happening all over again. But there is hope.
and castle is good, and it has two season already. So Yay for Castle, and I'll try not to talk too much about V when I post since I know this is the castle page. this is my first post too, so hello, glad to meet all of you.

New to this board. Visited for the first time and created an account today. All this discussion about references to Firefly. Being that the only reason I started watching Castle was because I am a Firefly fan I hoped there would be some references to Firefly thrown in from time to time. Though I feel I probably missed a few. I know I missed at least one, the catalyser. So, I was wondering if the other Browncoats out there could help me, and others like me, with what we might have missed and where the reference shows up. I have Season 1 on DVD so going back through old episodes to see what I missed would be simple. I just need some help with where to look.

Wasn't there a "2 by 2, hands of blue" ref once….help anyone.  I just watched the first episodes of Firefly, so saw that part.

Hasn't been that many references,
the 2 by 2 is a blink and you missed it thing in the con-episode, 204, just when Castle puts on the blue gloves first time ever entering the con-man's living room – he makes two V-signs
in 206, vampire weekend, there's of course him dressing up, and the catalyser
that's it, to my knowledge.

There's another reference in season one. I believe it's the ep where Meredith the ex-wife shows up, and Castle Moans, "I'm in the special hell." That was a really good one. Nonbrowncoat types never would have noticed it.
I just caught one in White Noise 2 last night too.

I'd forgot about that one, its when they're at the crime scene and Rick is telling the Detectives about Meredith moving back to NY and he says that would be "a special type of hell" the hell of a deep fried twinkie!

I think we can add another reference to the list. In The Mistress Always Spanks Twice, Kate teases him and walks away and he mutters "Yeah, you better run." Just like when YoSaffBridge abandoned Mal in the desert all naked in the episode Trash!
