I'm with you Unniw! I am actually at this point looking forward to Beckett gettting a love interest!I certainly wasn't at that point to begin with though..
The fact that he is a cop? doesn't shock me one bit. I have always felt that the way to Beckett's heart will be through the job – that's just Beckett.. and.. which in the longterm – bodes well for Castle too!!
Although this love interest is an NYPD cop in the homicide division, that doesn't mean they work along side each other though right? i mean he could be stationed at another precinct couldn't he? or even outside manhattan.. who knows.. he could work for West Chester police couldn't he???!!! (Maybe Buffalo??!!
) hmm not sure.. anyway I am looking forward to seeing how all this pans out!
It is crazy to be thinking it – when the character hasn't even been introduced yet-but I wonder who will break it off? I kinda hope it is the guy!!! hehehee..If only so Castle can't say to Beckett she doesn't know what it is like to be rejected anymore – so he can get off his butt and do something!! ya know???
I hope they go for the new character to be one of either two extremes..
1) he is a really nice guy – absolutely nothing wrong with him, but he just isn't Castle! or…
2) he is evil – but has been charming everyone… and he plants some seeds of doubt and conflict between Beckett and Castle without their realising it.. Castle seeing what this man is..(but worries jealousy is clouding his judgement) and Beckett – resenting Castle's interference, is even more determined to date this guy and prove him wrong! then.. somehow being the smart detective she is.. she starts to see through his lies.. and that Castle is the guy she knows and trusts.. and she breaks it off.. (Moby- your idea of him 'falling under a bus' ? sounds like it would fit well here!! Or!! what if he suddenly ends up dead- and everyone at the precinct is a suspect????? whoooooo!!!!
…..of course we could then have the lovely lets have a drink or two too many .. and a drunken kiss.. and season ending!! it's fun to imagine isn't it??!!!
I wonder if any of this ties in with the big double episode.. or.. the release of the new Nikki Heat book at all.. hmmm..

I'm with unniw! One half the (obviously inevitable canon) ship dating someone else is always, always good for the ship.
As for what I hope for Beckett's new boy… that he's a nice guy and that there's absolutely nothing wrong with him (without, y'know, being a Gary Stu). I don't care who calls it off, or if they sleep together, but I would like a little Castle/Beckett nod in the breakup.
Basically, if anyone's seen SG-1, I kinda want the Pete/Sam/Jack/Kerry thing all over again. Except I don't want Beckett to get engaged to this Tom character – for one, it totally goes against her one-and-done statement.

Moby you are better than I. I am not channeling my negative feelings one bit, I am letting them out. :yell:
Castle is my favorite show but if they screw it up, I am out after this season. If these 4 eps (really 4 whole eps!) do not absolutely and completely advance B/C I will not be back for S3. I don't have time for this. As soon as I saw this spoiler I was very upset.
How do you go from Sucker Punch and Third Man to a KB dating someone else? Everyone keeps saying the writers have 'a plan'. Whatever. It sounds like their plan is to string us romantic suckers along for a couple more seasons. I hope I am wrong, but I tend to doubt it.
Not giving up, but we will see what the next 9 bring.

I think that as much as I don't want to see Beckett with anyone else, it totally makes sense, even after Sucker Punch and Third Man. Like unniw said, Beckett seems like she is serious about relationships, and the way things stand right now, she doesn't trust Castle as boyfriend material. It's got to be hard for a "one and done" girl to think about any kind of future with a playboy twice divorced.
Plus, if these 4 episodes happen at the end of the season, there are other things that can happen in the coming few episodes that, for Beckett, might drive a wedge between her and Castle (the issues involved with the double episode (spoilers) as well as the title of the second Heat book and any additonal circumstances with that).
As viewers we don't know a lot about Kate's private life, so it will be fun to explore that more. But I do hope it's a good guy and a worthy adversary for Castle…and I had assumed he worked in Beckett's precinct, but as many of you have mentioned…maybe not!
I'm certainly in no rush with Beckett and Castle, but depending on how things play out, I think an impulsive kiss wouldn't ruin anything…and would probably set up lots of confusion and some steps back for Beckett in season 3?

I have to say that I'm not really excited about Beckett getting a new love interest either. I agree with earlier post that I hope this relationship is resolved by the end of the season and not carried over to the 3rd (as soon as we get official word on season 3). I can see how Beckett and Castle would both attract other people, but I just don't want to see the writers make these other relationships too serious.

Ahhh Mig991 I see your point and understand where you are coming from!! I have been feeling the same way.. but have come to the conclusion any resolution will be a long time coming.. I may end up just stopping watchig – and when they finally do get together I will buy the dvds and watch it then.. ha haaaa.. Ohhh I am such a cheater!! but.. if the writing stays good and it is still clever, witty and entertaining, I may be able to stand my frustration!
I just found this in an article called ' the TV viewer's guide to sexual tension and talentless hacks'- now keep in mind I post these things to spark exploration and discussion, not because I 100% agree with them!!

I don't have a problem with this either. I know it's easy to groan because every other show has done this and if not done right it can hurt a show. I have so much faith in these writers to do it right and put their own stamp on what's already been done many times.
We don't know the events that lead up to this new love interest. While we've seen lots of progress between Castle and Beckett it's been mostly flirting and gaining trust. It's a step in the right direction but we haven't seen any seriousness from either one. While it's probably not necessary to use this strategy it could be the very thing that pushes Beckett and Castle together.
While the spoiler says he's attractive and charismatic it doesn't necessarily mean he'll be a good guy. Stana has mentioned we'll get more info on her mother's killer though the case probably won't be solved. Could he be a dirty cop keeping tabs on her or something like that?

After letting myself think about this topic, you could say I am unbiased at this point. While I do see both sides, I think I have to wait and see what leads up to this and how he's actually written into the plot. There's so many different ways that this could go, and only knowing basic information about the guy doesn't give me much to play off of when making a solid decision.
Will I continue to watch the show? Of course! It's a great show with great writers, and I think they will pull off this romantic fling nicely. At this point, I am putting my faith in them; if I like the show in general, why stop because I ship Caskett and don't want to see Beckett with another guy? I think that if this is done in the correct way, not only will it bring something different to their relationship, but it could also bring in new viewers. Just a thought, of course.

This is dismaying to hear, but I have to say I think Beckett deserves some happiness. So I say work it girl and make Castle jealous! Anything to help the two of them realize that they should be with each other.
Ooh, the possibilities of who this guy is are certainly many as others have mentioned. Here's another one I just thought of – he's just flirting with her to get to Castle because he's gay! Not likely to happen, I know, but fun to envision. :rofl:
And by the way, if it turns out to be Dean Cain, as some posters on the article's website have suggested, I would absolutely die! That would be way too much attractiveness to behold on one screen! Sorry, but I have had a huge crush on him since Lois & Clark.

How about Antonio Sabato Jr? I can recall the first time I ever saw him. It was Janet Jackson's video "Love Will Never Do Without You." Wow. My friends and I were like "OMG, who is that guy?"

While everyone is talking about the 4 ep arc and that the guy will leave after that, I just like to mention something here. In the show House MD at the end of season 3, House lost everyone of his team. One was fired, the other one left and had a new job and the third one quit. At the beginning of season 4 the creators had the 8 ep arc idea to let House search for a new team. As I said it was only supposed to be for 8 eps. Now we are in season 6 and all new team members that were found in season 4 and that were only supposed to stay for 8 eps, are still around and they are not likely to go anywhere anytime soon. My guess is, that they plan to have the new guy aropund for 4 eps, thy gonna see how it works out, how the fans react to it and how the chemistry on the show is and if everything is fine, I think this guy will stay longer than just 4 eps.
But I also have to say I am looking forward to this. As others have said already that will be a new challenge for Castle. Something fun and interesting. I look forward to seeing how Castle deals with this turn of events. Because lately as others said too, everything was way too easy for Castle and he has not grown up a bit. So that new turn of events is going to rattle his cage a bit.
And I have time and can wait to see how all that plays out. In Germany we had a show with two similar characters working side by side. There was nothing for 5 years/5 seasons except for a little flirting. Really It took them 5 seasons to get together… Damn it, I am used to it, I can wait!
